Well I agree with some and disagree with some. She is very take charge and not very comforting. She will come in look at the baby give the shots or whatnot and gets you out. The wait between weighing and actual visit can be very long at times. She doesnt tell you the shots she is giving unless you ask, and sometimes she does talk to you like you are stupid. The office staff is WONDERFUL and I cannot emphasize that enough. I needed a prescript faxed and it was done within 10 minutes which is unheard of. I am keeping her as my son's doctor until he is a year old, but after I am going to switch.

My wife and I moved from New Jersey and we were worried about who we going to select as Dr. for our kids. If you are looking for someone who cares about their little patients, it is Dr Ruiz. She is straight to the point and no nonsense. Her patients care is her # 1 priority. People who say she is unfriendly or unwelcomed should stop and think what is more important. A Dr. who will not B.S you and will do everthing in her power to make sure every possible step has been taken to ensure the health of their child or a Dr that smiles a lot and makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside but does not take the time to really know the patient. I have two boys and Dr Ruiz has been the best Dr. for my kids.

Above all, she cares about the well-being of children. In the exam room, she is 100% focused on the child, sees the *whole* child (not just a single symptom), never comes across as rushed, and has been been consistently reliable in her care of my family. Although she can be occasionally abrupt, I have seen her more often being extremely patient, kind, generous, and interested in my children.

There are separate waiting rooms for sick and well children. The building is not new, but it is clean, and well-organized (definitely *not* in a state of disrepair as claimed in another review).

The staff and the doctor all speak impeccable English, and I have never had a problem communicating with anyone, nor have I ever felt misunderstood. I do not use providers that I cannot communicate with, so I would not continue there if this were the case!

When I have had urgent needs, they have always accommodated me and gotten my child in quickly. The wait can sometimes be extended, but I feel like when *I* get the doctor one-on-one, she takes all the time that *I* need, and I appreciate that, and it makes me a little more understanding of her getting behind schedule from time to time.

I'd rather wait an hour to see a doctor whom I can TRUST than get in quick with an assembly-line style office. Dr. Ruiz is a caring physician and a great diagnostician.

Dr. Ruiz is a very take charge type of person. Twice I have had to ask her to explain what she was doing to my child. Today it took all I could do to keep my self in check. She walks in the room and started making demands to my child. She never said hello or how are you. She never spoke to my child or to me. She just started scrubbing away on his foot. We were not even there for his foot. I ask her to stop!! And tell me what she was doing. Then when I as her not to do what she was doing she told me I was acting like a two year old. I told my child to put on his shoes we were leaving. She told him to stay there. I finally got him up and out. As she continued to make comments. I called my insurance company and changed Doctors. I have also have had to wait very long today I had to wait 2 hours. The Staff seems very nice though but there is a big turn over. Be careful when picking out a Doctor for your child. If you can go some where else I recommend that you do!

I am in the military and this was one of two options in Valrico. I chose the closest. Bad decision. My toddler (who had Pneumonia) had the first available appointment of the day at 8am. The front desk people didn't arrive until 8:30. Doctor Ruiz didn't show up until 9:15 and we still didn't get in until 9:45. This or similar events happened 3 times before I called to complain that my wife and child had to wait 1-2 hours for very early appointments. The front desk informed me that Dr. Ruiz policy is to book appointments beginning at 8am, but that Dr. Ruiz does not come in until between 8:30 and 9:30***I am not joking, it was her policy. We have also had to wait 2 day's for her to sign a kindergarten school physical (that she performed). The office is in bad shape, with wallpaper falling off the walls and paint chipping. On a side note, most of the staff, including doctor Ruiz, have very thick Spanish accents that make it very difficult to interpret what they are saying. That is very important since you are trying to understand unusually large medical terms that are refering to the health of the most important thing in your life. I highly recommend you find another pediatrician if at all possible. I am currently recommending (along with other military families) that she be removed the TriCare list.

Do yourself a favor and check her reviews on other site's too. Especially of the Yahoo search engine!

My children have been going to Dr. Ruiz for the last 4 years, she is the BEST!! She is very thorough and leaves nothing to chance. She will go out of her way to see that the proper tests are performed to get to the root of my child's illness. The staff is courteous and wonderful to deal with. The flexible Monday & Friday 7pm closing time, makes it convenient for me, as a working mom, to make appointments that do not interrupt my workday.
