Gianpiero's Pick of the Vine is a true, neighborhood wine shop in the very best sense. All the wine is lovingly hand picked by Gianpiero. The customer experience involves this amazingly talented proprieter matching your taste and budget with the perfect bottle of wine. Each visit to this shop is fun, friendly and educational.

In many respects, the shop has evolved to become a neighborhood pub of sorts. Many customers drop in to purchase a glass or bottle of wine or a nibble of imported Italian delicacies while chatting among neighborhood friends and meeting new acquaintances. As a local Tampa professional, I consider Gianpiero's to be an excellent networking place.

We all know that there are lots of wine shops out there, many offering products at discount or outlet prices. But do you really save? No, you don't. That's because, while paying a lower price per bottle, you will inevitably end up with a bad or not so great bottle of wine. And wine is all about enjoyment - so what have you really saved?

I highly recommend Gianpierro's Pick of the Vine, both for the sophisticated wine customer as well as those of us who have very little knowledge or experience. I promise you, you will leave with a smile on your face and a great bottle of wine!

Pros: Amazing selection, good price point. Gianpierro offers expert advice on choosing wine that suits your individual taste

Cons: none

Gianpiero's Pick of the Vine is a superb wine shop, and Gianpiero himself is a fine proprietor. Far from being a snob as suggested in another post, he has a fine sense of humor and is a joy to work with. And as for the "straw" comment, I can only imagine it was a joke misconstrued. If the wine was swill, Gianpiero would not stock it.

Gianpiero's sells not just wine, but community. The store has an unbelievably loyal client base, most of whom I am sure would consider Gianpiero more a friend than just a wineseller. The free wine tastings are wonderful social events, as well as a chance to try new things. When you're at Gianpiero's you are as welcome as you are in your own kitchen.

Try one of Gianpiero's "Best Buys" for high-value, low-cost selections. Better yet, you can buy a bottle, have Gianpiero serve it, and get a great spread of meats and cheeses to enjoy it with right there on the premises. This is one of South Tampa's best kept cheap date secrets!

Pros: Expert, friendly advice; broad selection of excellent wine values; the porcetta is addictive.

Cons: Doesn't always have the porcetta in stock.

I visited Gianpiero Ruggeris Pick of the Vine wine store on S. MacDill last week in an effort to support a local business. I selected a $10 bottle of wine and went to pay Mr. Ruggeri at the cash register where he looked at my bottle and condescendingly said to me, Would you like a straw with that? as to say my taste in wine was neither sophisticated nor expensive enough to meet Mr. Ruggeris discriminating tastes. Well Mr. Ruggeri, I am sorry that you do not have confidence in what you sellsaying it deserves to be drunk through a straw. I am sorry you do not treat your customers as your friends and patrons. I am also sorry that I do not have your knowledge of wine and was not aware that it is meant to be drunk through a strawthat must be a technique you developed yourself.
