Unfortunately, King, which used to be a great school, is no longer so. The alumni were lucky enough to attend high school at King during a time in which the Administration were even remotely competent. The Administration has fallen short in the selection of many new teachers, including teachers who are simply not qualified for the job. revamped the policies of the school district, and heightened the consequences significantly, creating a prison-like environment for the students in which the punishment does not fit the "crime". This includes 2 day suspension for the second sight of any electronic device (even if i has just fallen out of a students pocket).

The administration's failure has little to do with the success of certain programs at the school including the IB program, the Music Program, and others including Relay For Life, all of which have only gotten better.

The administration needs to get their act together in order for the school to be what it once was.

I graduated from King in 1994. Great school, great teachers. I was accepted to the United States Naval Academy and the University of Florida with a degree from King, so the sky is the limit. The athletics in my time were not stellar, but we made sure to cheer and get behind all of our teams. In my time, the school was very closely mixed racially with white, African-American and Hispanic. I'm white and the racial tension was very minimal, and I was in school during the time of the Rodney King trial. The administration cared for its students as well and were available and visible all the time. King High Lions!

When I went there in 1965-1968, it was a fine school. The faculty was dedicated, the facilities sparse. We all lived in Temple Terrace, swam and skied daily in the Hillsborough River. Some played golf at the local course and we even had Eddie Pierce who joined the PGA briefly. We had no gymnasium but had a pretty good football team. I tried to play sports, was not any good, but we had some great athletes. One of our best, Tom Owens, got a scholarship to Wichita State in football and died in a tragic plane crash in 1970 with his team members. He was a friend and a terrific guy. I still think about him. Life has gone of for me and we all still continue to find our way. I graduated from U of F in 1973 . I have 4 grown kids and 6 grandkids and co-own a manufacturing company. I finally figured out I could run long distances and run marathons including New York. I am content and have some very fond memories of King High and the great friends I had.

I went to King. Actually I was supposed to graduate from there this school year but I moved to Atlanta. King is a GREAT school! I had tons of fun! As for whoever said that comment about the kid being murdered across the street, get your facts straight before you say something. That "kid" was my close friend Dalshon and it was not in early 2006 it was Nov 2005. So what if its not the best area? The kids are extremely friendly and I LOVE that school!

Unfortunately if you want to live in Temple Terrace, this is the nearest High school. It is located in the hood, on Sligh avenue across the street from the fast food restaurant where a kid was murdered in early 2006. The population is lower income.
