Don't go unless you like to be cursed at and ridiculed by the restaurant manager.

This is an example of a great restaurant that suffers from incompetent management that is going to ruin the place. The manager, Ron Butine is going to run all of the customers away.

I had to complain to the manager that the waiter had our credit card for 20 minutes and was no where to be found. I had a cab waiting for me outside and I was late. I finally had to get a hostess to track down the waiter who had the cards just sitting in the back.

My tone was professional at all times throughout the process.

When I got back to the table with the waiter and my credit card, the manager, Ron Butine approached me and told me, "Don't ever F**king come back here again." Later he went on to call me a "loser" and told me that he didn't have time for "people like me."

Being an ethnic restaurant, I'll assume that when he says "people like me" that this wasn't a knock against my cultural heritage.

I told Ron Butine that I wanted to speak with the person he reports to. He says that his boss is Mr. Chang and that he would not give me Mr. Chang's phone number and that it wouldn't make a difference anyways as Mr. Chang wouldn't have the time to speak with me even if I tried. On top of that Ron Butine told me that Mr. Chang only speaks Taiwanese and wouldn't be able to talk to me even if I did.

Later that night I called the other Daruma restaurant that Mr. Chang owns and spoke with Ron Butine's counterpart there named Catherine. Catherine immediately put me in touch with the owner's wife, Mrs. Chang. Mrs. Chang was mortified at Ron Butine's behavior. Catherine and Mrs. Chang told me that they would get in touch with Mr. Chang for me and that he would follow up with me after this weekend through his assistant Nicki. I haven't heard back from Mr. Chang as of yet.

What I see here is the classic example of one bad apple ruining the entire bushel. Ron's oppressive management style was apparent when I would watch him interact with Mr. Chang's employees. His caustic personality is poisoning what would otherwise be a wonderful dining experience.

BTW - We did hear other patrons complaining about Ron Butine's attitude towards them, so I am pretty certain that mine is not an isolated experience but rather endemic to the nature of Ron Butine.

This is the best Japanese restaurant I have been to. The crew that cooks at the table is the finest I.ve seen. They provide an excellent meal for a reasonable price.
