I give all restaurants two chances. They blew it twice so I'm done. This place was ok when we first started going, very festive decor and a very nice pour on the glass of wine. Food was the standard Mexican fare, nothing special but

It had been a while since I had been to Carlos and Pepe's and now I remember why! The food was terrible and the service was non-existent. Even the chips and salsa were bad. The chips were greasy and tasted rancid. The salsa was like

I've eaten at C&P a few times over the years and food has been ok. My last experience there was horrible and I walked out with a party of 8 people when they were slow. Manager and Host were rude and not accommodating at all. Walked over to TAZA's in the same plaza and had a great experience and great food.

Cons: Horrible customer service

Very authentic mexican restaurant which is a favorite among the locals! Very cozy booths! Known for its icy margaritas, mexican pizza and their chips and salsa! They do not serve their margaritas in the typical margarita glass (server said too many breaks!) so you are chugging it out of a beer mug! Other than that - I love this place!

My Husband and I live in Miami so it's quite a drive to get to Carlos and Pepe's but it's worth it if we're heading north. Their beef is to die for. It's like potroast, tender and savory. The portions are perfect to large...so go with an appetite. We love to start off with one of their many creative margaritas and chips and salsa. The salsa is SOOOOOOO fresh. In fact everything is.

The service is always great. There is one gentleman that we love to sit with because his smile is just so inviting. The food comes out of the kitchen piping hot and promptly (just the way we like it).

The colors and textures used to decorate the place make the ambiance calming and warm.

You'll enjoy this place for sure! (Oh, and try the smoked salmon dip with your chips...mmmmmm!)

Cons: Can get packed but, it's SO worth the 5-10 minute wait!

We were in town with friends and hoped for a good dining experience but were completely embarassed! As first time diners we needed a few minutes to look over the menu. When our waitress arrived we asked what beers were on draft and she pointed to the bar so we could read them! I ordered two Dos XX"s. "No" she replied "I know it's up there but we don't have it"! We decided on two Ultimate margs which by the time we recieved them it had been at least 15 minutes! While we were trying to enjoy our beverages, after having to go to the bar for limes ourselves, we saw our waitress overwhelemed with the ONE table across from us without her ever giving a glance in our direction! That was the time we decided she must have been a 30 something busser thrown into waiting tables! When she finally arrived to our table she said "Are you ready to order?" we ordered dinner without an opportunity to order an appetizer which we intended! We had to flag her down to add a side of japs and avacados with our meals. It was then she said "we can't do avacados but you can order guacamole." REALLY!!! Fed up with the service and attiude by the our waitress we asked a passing by waiter to speak to a manager. We saw him tell our waitress what we wanted and she came by to say "Why do you want to talk to a mgr, I didn't do anything wrong?" When what looked like to be the bartender approached the table and introduced himself as the manager the waitress was sure to be by his side in complete defense! We nicely asked her to leave but upon her continuous resistance had to be firm, w/o any help from the mgr! After informing him of our visit and him seemingly surprised by the ignorance of our wtrs his solution was a new wtr. On our way out we wanted speak to the mgr and a diff. one was pointed out! The one we spoke to came hurrying up saying they were both mgrs! We told him we were dissapointed w/how he handled the sit. he said "I've been here 30 yrs!" he didn't own it but "there's no one above him!"

I was in town visiting friends and we all wanted to eat Mexican so we decided to go here. The server took forever to bring out our drinks and take any sort of order. He came back to ask if I wanted a refill of Sangria and I said yes. He came back 5 minutes later and said they were out of sangria. I was disapointed so I told him I was going to think about what elese I wanted to drink. He came back another 5 minutes later so I told him to just bring me a beer. When he brought me the beer he said more sangria would be ready in 2 minutes. Why didn't he just tell me they were making more so it would be a minute instead of saying they were out which to me implies that there was no more to be made!!! Well of course gratuity was already added b/c we were a large group so we all split the bill. The food was ok, the salsa was ok nothing spectacular. I looked on my visa card the next day and noticed that the original $25 that I signed the recipet for ( with tip included due to automatic gratuity charge) had increased to $32!! I called Carlo's and Pepe's to aks them why my card had been charged for me and the man who answered said that sometimes banks just do that. I called my bank and they said yeah right they just wanted to charge my card more so now I am disputing the charge. I know it is only for $7 but if they do this many times in a night they are just getting extra money!! I would never go back here, the service was horrible and the food was mediocre!!

Pros: Had many different types of Margaritas

Cons: Horrible Service, Overcharged my card!

Anytime you see hamburgers, chicken wings or pizza on the menu at a Mexican restaurant - beware! Food was horrible. Ordered simple burrito - nothing on the menu indicated it would come with beef stew styled meat covered in brown sauce - no lettuce, tomatoes, or extras of any kind. The meat tasted exactly like my mother's Irish beef stew - I couldn't believe it. My date had tacos - meat was okay, chips and salsa were also okay for taste, but not worth $4.95 (really small basket). Note to owner: chips and salsa are usually complimentary. Waitstaff were courteous and atmosphere was nice. The funniest part were the little Mexican flags placed on each plate. (Anyone ever see European Vacation? Remember the scene when the family goes to a French restaurant, and the cooks in the back toss food from a box on a plate and place a French flag in the plate?) This and playing a Gypsy Kings cd does not make it an authentic Mexican restaurant. No Carne Asada or Bistec Tampenquena - 2 staples you would normally find at a Mexican restaurant. Go anywhere else - even Taco Bell.

I visited Carlos & Pepe's with a large group of friends back in August. We were in town for only 1 day and drove right by the place so we decided to try it! I am so glad we did. I have to say that's the best Mexican food I have had in a big while. Everything we ordered was good. You will not be disappionted.

Pros: Big Menu, big place, great food

This Fort Lauderdale mainstay has been around for years and with good reason: the food is outstanding. I try to go 2 - 3 times a month. While the wait for a table can be long sometimes, it is well worth it. Every item on the menu is tasty and generous in proportion. While Mexican food is not always the most healthful, C&P's is willing to alter many of the items to suit your needs. For example, I get the fajitas made without oil. Some of the best salsa I've ever tasted.

More about Carlos & Pepe's Cantina

Carlos, named after four kings of Spain (his full name is Carlos Carlos Carlos Carlos Lopez), was born with a silver taco in his mouth, and never got over his taste for the finer things in life. Heir to the family sombrero fortune, he was more interested in throwing extravagant parties with delicious food than in turning out a good, competitively priced sombrero, and though he became a truly superb host and gourmet chef, his business soon collapsed, and Carlos found himself up the Rio Grande without a paddle. Pepe traces his family back to the ancient Mayan Indians of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula. The Mayans were a clever and frugal people, given to pyramid building and an occasional indulgence in human sacrifice. Pepe had been Carlos' faithful "Hombre Viernes" (Man Friday), and being the clever and frugal Mayan he is, he managed to save a few Pesos here, a few Pesos there, until, by the time Carlos' fortune was squandered, Pepe had saved enough to set his former boss up in a restaurant. The exact terms of their deal haven't been disclosed, but suffice it to say that Carlos is working his BURRO off, while Pepe is getting GORDO. By the way, as far as we know, the Mayans have completely sworn off human sacrifice, but Pepe swears he will sacrifice anything to be able to offer the finest Mexican food available anywhere.

A traditional Mexican-American neighborhood restaurant, Carlos & Pepe's won't disappoint those in search of nachos, quesadillas, fajitas, enchiladas and Mexican pizza. You better like lots of gooey, melted cheese, as that's the main…
