"Tom Callos is a revered leader in the martial arts industry this is what he said via Facebook:
By the way, the local Lavallee's schools ALL KNEW about this for a long time and knew the charges were coming and changed their names back in Jan from "Lavallees to Impact"...VERY SHADY INDEED.
FROM TOM CALLOS:
I am afraid I cannot, at this time, offer condolences to my old friend, as I had spoken, 4 mon...ths ago (or so) to one of his victims, a young man who told me he had been one of a number of others who had been taken advantage of, molested, by the man. I urged the young man, now an adult, to go to the authorities, which he did shortly thereafter. As I understand it, this became one of several complaints, across two State lines, that brought the matter to the authorities. I notified the authorities (and the man's business association myself, being linked to them years ago), as is the duty of any and every adult who suspects and/or finds evidence that another person is victimizing a child --any child. From there, rather than "outing" the man, I felt that it was in the hands of the authorities, who would either find the claims to be true --or fabricated."

Lavallee Martial Arts school, has helped my son to be a high achiever. They have taught my son to focus & achieve any goal he aims for.
Master KC hs been instrumental in helping my son to achieve a third degree Black belt. With her help my son is graduating High school with High Honors. Be accepted to College with an Academic Excellence Scholarship. He was taught to respect others & be a team player. KC's interaction with my son has been instrumental in my son's ability to have a very high respect for woman. She has helped to bring out my son's full potential. "Bravo". As a professional psycho-therapist I rate this experience for my son as being instrumental in supporting his high moral ethics & strong mental health. I highly recommend this experience for your child.

Mrs. La Valle is really a great teacher and friend. The staff are always friendly and encouraging. I really enjoy taking my children and sometimes being a part of the class with them is great. Its a fun and safe place for kids to learn how to show respect to others in a kind way.

All four of us enjoyed a spectacular triumph as we tested together as a family in December 2009. My husband and I, along with our 10 year old son, earned our Red Belts together, while our 8 yo daughter, earned her Green Belt. It was the perfect end to an incredible year!

Our family enthusiastically joined the LaVallees team in 2007. It is the greatest gift and legacy we could wish for ourselves, and our children. The four of us have become stronger, closer, and infinitely more confident and patient since discovering mixed martial arts.

When my husband and I looked into LaVallees Martial Arts training, we realized it offered an unparalleled combination of skills for our family. Our son could enjoy the strength, focus, camaraderie, and rough-and-tumble play that young boys crave. Our daughter could enjoy the choreography, gymnastics, and performance that young girls crave. My husband and I could enjoy the incredible physical conditioning, focus and discipline that many adults lose sight of once stress overwhelms us, and we reach for the quick fixes.

Our expectations are consistently exceeded as we enjoy all of these things, as well as the invaluable skill set that martial arts provides in confidence, family safety, and self-defense. our children have developed into a confident young athletes, and take great joy in the katas and weapon forms. My husband and I are in peak physical condition, have made dramatic nutrition changes, and enjoy incredible relief of mental stress each time we put our shoes in the shoe rack and enter the dojo. I have lost over 45 pounds in the process! We continue to share this powerful, invigorating, life-changing activity together, and look forward to achieving many black belt levels together.

We are grateful to the team of gifted and dedicated instructors and mentors at LaVallees USA Black Belt Champions who inspire our dedication to the dojo, to our family, and to The Student Creed. Kyoshi Steve LaVallee is a dynamic, distinguished and accomplished martial artist and master. Master K.C. LaVallee's enthusiastic presence, careful attention to the students, and tailored instruction are dedicated to each and every student's success. Mr. Mike G., Mr. Mike S., Mr. Daniel and Mr. Vince each have an exceptional skill set, and magnetic delivery, that make each and every class a discovery of one's soul, power, and endurance. The friends we have made among fellow classmates are among our most treasured assets. The LaVallee's may encourage you to come and enjoy a class because they are certain you will enjoy it as much as we do, but I would tell you to come in and simply look at the face of every student as they step off of the mat, and you will see a brilliant smile of satisfaction shining out from under the sweat!

It is unfortunate that the other reviewer was turned off so quickly. I did not share his experience. There are contracts and enrollment fees/tuition at every school, so I can't imagine that would be a surprise. What does matter is their dedication to your continued training. The beginner classes are generally small, and the advanced classes are only large because the black belts re-enroll. They bring tremendous energy and knowledge to the class and share it generously. I assure you, you get every penny's worth out of tuition. If you dedicate yourself to your training, the team will dedicate everything to your success!

P.S. The other reviewer, Ricki Lee, just watched her son achieve his black belt, and is currently a candidate herself.

I agree with Rob B. - even two years after his review La Vallee's has such a strong sales pitch. Plus they are more expensive than every other Dojo I have researched yet offer less for the money - two 30 minute sessions a week costs more than three 45-minute (or one hour) sessions in other studios. However, everyone I know who goes there likes it, but I found them way too pushy for my taste.

I had been searching for martial arts training, in the Fort Lauderdale area, for quite some time. Back in May ??07, I came across Lavallee's USA Black Belt Champions. I took a tour of the school and decided to try it out; as I have done with other schools that caught my interest.

At first I was skeptical due to the McDojo complex running ramped, but I must say I am quite impressed. This was the first school where everyone seemed to genuinely live by the school creed. Everyone exudes a positive, goal oriented, attitude with the utmost respect for everyone around them... whether they knew you or not.

The workouts are tough and the instructors have an excellent understanding of their craft. They deliver their knowledge in a detailed, step-by-step manner. They not only explain how a movement is executed but why and the intended outcome.

You??ll find that, from the senior instructors down to the lower ranks, everyone helps each other to progress as a martial artist and a human being? yes, a human being.

Many individuals hold the naive belief that the rank makes the person when indeed it??s the person that makes the rank? the journey to reaching a black belt is more then becoming a skilled fighter? it??s having the wisdom to know when to use your skills, it??s having the understanding that a black belt symbolizes your completion of the basics and signifies the true beginning of your training.

When looking into martial arts training, please remember? many preach a path but very few actually follow the path they moralize.

Currently, I am a Purple belt and continue my training at the Commercial dojo. I look back wondering why I waited so long and look forward with excitement of what is to come.

As far as the statements made by "Rob B.", how can you actually make such allegations without even taking one single class. We all warm-up together and then split into separate classes based upon level/rank; the microphones provide an effective way to deliver the information being demonstrated; and each class is led my a black belt, who is supported by other black belts and high red belts whom provide individual attention.

I won't deny that Lavalles has an unusually strong sales pitch, but I will also say that they have an unusually strong product to back it up. I don't know what happened to the previous critic, but the topic of contracts did not come up during the sales pitch I heard until after I'd had a free private lesson, had a tour, had all of my questions answered, and had the choices made clear to me. Unwilling to make a commitment, I opted for a three-month trial. At the end of three months, I was still unsure . . . that's when the real pressure was applied: would I commit to becoming a black belt or not? It was time to fish or cut bait. You don't become a black belt champion by heding your bets. You become a black belt by facing challenges head on and overcoming them. That much I had observed in those first three months. And you know what? Signing that contract was the most important YES I've said in a very long time. Karate the Lavalle way has been a wonderful asset in every area of my son's life and my own (they suckered me into a Mother's Day special....yeah, and I'm glad it worked!) We've both just earned our brown belts together. Yes, the business end is strong, but it is a very well run business with a very effective product. To respond to the previous critic's comment about class size--size doesn't matter. First of all, the class is split into two groups based on rank/skill after the initial warm-up (you don't need one-on-one help to do jumping jacks or stretches). Within those two smaller groups, each led by a third-degree or higher black belt instructor, there are always other black belts or high-red belts doing service to the dojo in order to earn their next level. And they help, too. Best of all, however, is the spirit of nearly EVERYONE in the dojo. At every level, I have met the most cheerful, helpful, talented, supportive and knowledgeable people willing to help me achieve my goals. I am not a quick study when it comes to karate but I have never felt left out or left behind. I have always had one-on-one help whenever I asked for it. Sometimes two-on-one . . . just because people care. So it's not like someone suckers you in with a sales pitch and then hangs you out to dry. Once they get you in, they keep you in by making sure that all your needs are met, that all your experiences are positive. How many businesses like that do you know? I'm halfway through my three-year contract but I have no intention of quitting at that time. I have no intention of quitting--ever! This place rocks!

Cheers,
Ricki Lee

They are too caught up in the business end. They are all about the contracts and their person in charge of signing you up attacks you like a used car salesman right when you walk in the door. The instructor uses a microphone to speak with the students, because their are waaaaaay to many students for one teacher. I walked in, heard the sales pitch, saw how the floor operated, and left..lol...no thank you
