Hmm... I'm not sure how to really recommend this place. The doctors there are wonderful. They spend as much time with you as you need and are patient enough to explain everything in detail and answer even your most idiotic questions without making you feel stupid. The doctors I've met there are smart, kind, and genuinely just good people. The front office staff however is another story. Not only are they rude... they don't even acknowledge you... but when they finally do its to tell you they can't help you. The front office staff comes across as incompetent, inefficient, and lacking compassion for the animals and their owners that come into the place. The wait is long even if you are there to simply pick up food or flea medication. We waited over 2 hours to see a doctor even though we had an appointment. After we were done we went to pay and had to wait another 35 minutes for them to find our paperwork to check us out. There were three people in the front area but nothing seemed to be getting done. All this time spent for a simple check up with the cat in the crate the whole time... me praying it wouldn't use the bathroom in it. I like the doctors and the prices are very reasonable. The time spent waiting and the rudeness of the front staff isn't worth it. The amount of money I could have made by working the extra two hours i waited there would have exceeded the amount of money I saved by going this particular office. If you have an unspecified amount of time to wait this place has amazing doctors and I would recommend it if your animal is having health issues that require specialized treatment. However if you are going just for shots are a simple check up spend the extra $10 (or less) and save yourself a couple hours by going to another vets office.

found them after going to Countryside in Beverly hills. Countryside told me my pet was just fine and the abnormal blood work was nothing to worry about. i then went to this animal clinic and found out this was not the case my dog could now die, they are very caring, and excellent knowledge of pets. i don't know what would have happened if i had not switched to them. i would send anyone to them they are the very best out there. you may have to wait but it is well worth it. i don't agree with some of the others the staff was very nice and caring just busy. thanks guys keep up the great work.

Ok so I live in Ocala and have had some terrible TERRIBLE vets. One didnt know the difference between ringworm and mange (I actually had to diagnois my dog with ringworm myself!!!! Another believed a eye scratch was cancer and a white spot that is normal in the breed was my other dog going blind (and I treated him with meds for 2 weeks for what was actually a calcium deposit). However when I took my dogs to this vet office (yes there was a wait involved both times but it wasnt very long and certainly not as long as a regular doctor where YOU ALSO HAVE AN APPOINTMENT) we didnt have an appointment and we were still seen and I found the vet extremely knowledgable there was no guessing on what was wrong with my dogs he knew the one was a harmless deposit boston terriers get when they get older and the other had scratched his eye and it was causing scar tissue and even knew of an awesome technic that caused little pain and left him seeing most of everything (had I not wasted my time with the other vet he would have been 100% fine but the damage had been done). My dogs other eye is acting up over this past weekend so I am taking him today again to this vet and though its a very long drive I WOULDNT GO ANYWHERE ELSE. They were kind very patient with my kids and even gave me a lesson on trimming toe nails. Thanks Dunnellon :)

I have worked as a high school and college student for veterinarians. With a bachelors degree in pre-veterinary medicine and animal science, and having raised AKC show dogs since 1974, I consider myself a pretty good judge of quality veterinary care. It's been my business to know my veterinarians well. After 30+ years of experience working with vets, I chose the best - Dr. Mack and his veterinarians. They are not a fast-food service, so don't expect it. Only good vets use their waiting rooms! They are highly qualified, highly skilled, and the best vets your pet can have. Here's what I learned about veterinarians from the director of our vet school at UF - if they pet the animal and talk to it before they talk to its owner, then they are worth their "wait" in gold! See you there with your deserving pet! DWA.

I have always found that there are 2 sides to every story. In response to Jodi W.I think you s hould ask yourself, maybe Dr. Mack never got the letter you sent. Also I think its unfair of you to judge him harshly, when that kind of information is easily accessible on the internet. Also, maybe a phone call to the hospital asking to speak to a technician to find out where they went to school, would have answered all your questions. I think we should judge people on ability.

PROS: Most caring hospital in this area
CONS:

I have been taking my animals to Dr. Paul Mack for years and have also referred him to many people, what a intelligent man. On May 24, 2006 I wrote Dr. Mack a letter containing questions concerning my interest in attending a college to pursue a career in Veterinary Technology. The letter was very professional . I gave him my home telephone number, cell number, email address, and home address for as much convenience to him as possible to answer the letter. Here I am today July 27, 2006 still have not heard anything from him. How professional!!!!!! I guess I will have to find another Veterinarian to answer my questions.

PROS: Good Veterinarian
CONS: Cannot answer a letter

I found Dunnellon Animal Hospital after I found countryside animal clinic to be cold and impersonal. To make a long story short... I called Dunnellon (D.A.H.) when I needed to get my dog in without an appointment. The wait time is extensive because they offer a "walk-in" service. With an appointment they get to you within a half hour or so... and you have to admit, that is pretty good no matter where you go. (I've waited that long at the Publix deli counter!) The staff is busy with walk-ins, phone calls, appointments and boarders- they do what they can, they're human. It is the assistants and vets that give their undivided attention, answer every question and genuinely care about you and your pet that makes the difference. And... it is because of the time they take with all of their clients that makes the wait longer than we'd like. I would rather go some where I know my animals are cared for and wait as long as it takes, than go to a facility that just wants me in and out. I'll save that scenario for oil changes.

PROS: Genuinely care for you and your pets
CONS:

I have been going there for over 10 years and there's a reason why. They are a wonderful hospital with very caring and loving vets which is what I want. I cna't believe what I just read on the other reviews................first off, if your pet is dead in the back of a car, then what good is a vet going to do even if you wait "a few minutes"? It's already dead! It's not like they killed it! And the woman who wrote about how she was bugged to pay her bill, you are supposed to pay your bill. Name me one business/hospital that is not going to ask you to pay a bill. Sure, I've gone there before and spent more than I thought I would, but I've done the same at a mechanic and a grocery store. I think that they have a great plaec and I'm NOT going to go anywhere else. I think by now I have met almost all of the vets and the staff, and the worst part is yes, an occasional wait, but they are worth it and they do have good prices and friendly faces. They treat my dog like he is family!

PROS: Friendly, good value
CONS: Occasional wait.

I have been going to Dr. Mack and Dunnellon Animal Hospital for a long time...since 1991 or 1992. I first started taking one of my dogs there after the other vets in the area couldn't figure out what was wrong with him. I have always been treated fairly and kindly by the vets and animal assistants. I also know Dr. Mack has done a lot for the less fortunate and sick animals in the community.
They charge fair prices and always explain things so I can understand them. The waiting area is clean and smells good too! I wouldn't trust my "family members" to anyone else.
They have definitely grown and gotten a lot busier since I first started going there, but they are the BEST VETS IN THE WHOLE AREA!! Always worth the wait!.

PROS: Caring, Competent, Fair prices, Clean, Nice People
CONS: Sometimes a wait but always well worth it!!

I live in LA and come out to visit with my dog... I've only been to the clinic twice... First time I was sitting 40 min ( by my watch ) next to a woman with a cat who was just dropping off... She sat there 40 min as well... Just to drop off... She was complaining to me how slow they always are, but that there the only kennel close to her... My second visit which was 1 hour ago and the reason I registered just to write this review... While waiting in the lobby... a young girl rushes through the front door crying and says that her dog is dyeing in the car outside... Keep in mind that there are three employees that I could see behind the desk... One of the employees told her to hold on while the other two disappeared behind the back... This girl is crying while the one employee is helping another customer with buying food... I couldn't believe my eyes, after a few min I had to get up and scream at the employee to get some help, I went outside with the girl to help her bring her dog in, her dad was behind the wheel crying, you could tell he wasn't thinking straight... I looked at the dog in the back seat, a white Lab... It was dead... I didn't have the heart to tell that girl so I ran back in and screamed at another employee, one min latter someone went outside... It was to late... I just find it inconceivable the heartless reaction those employees had to this situation, it was a twightlight zone episode, it wasn't real... I will never go back to this clinic EVER ! I will drive 40 min to Ocala next time... It made me sick...

We have found the staff to be very caring and helpful. We have boarded our dog with them and felt he was well taken care of also. They were very helpful in helping us to determine if our dog was the right pet for our family.

I WISH I HAD NEVER WALKED IN THE DOOR AT DUNNELLON ANIMAL HOSPITAL!!!!! THE ONLY REASON I KEEP GOING BACK THERE IS BECAUSE I CANNOT AFFORD TO GO TO ANOTHER CLINIC WHERE THEY MAKE YOU PAY FOR FIRST TIME VISITS. I HAVE BEEN OUT OF WORK FOR OVER A YEAR DUE TO A BACK INJURY, SO I'M KIND OF LIMITED AS FAR AS EXPENSES GO. ALSO, THE ONLY REASON I GO THERE AT ALL IS TO GET MY PETS MEDICINE AND PRESCRIPTIONS.
THE STAFF IS PURELY RUDE!!!
THE FIRST DAY I BROUGHT MY CAT IN I TOLD THEM I DIDN'T HAVE MUCH MONEY AND FOR THEM TO GIVE ME A LIST OF EXPENSES FOR WHICH TREATMENTS MY CAT NEEDED...........WELL, THEY DID. IT TOTALED APPROXIMATELY $79 SO I GAVE THEM THE GO AHEAD FOR EVERYTHING FOR UP TO THAT AMOUNT. BY THE TIME THEY WERE DONE........IT COST ME WELL OVER $200. I AGREED TO PAY IN $50 WEEKLY INSTALLMENTS. I HAD A DEATH IN THE FAMILY AND COULDN'T COME IN THE NEXT WEEK BUT THAT NEXT WEEK I PAID MY BILL IN FULL. WHILE I WAS HOLDING THE HAND OF MY COUSIN (SHE WAS LIKE A SISTER TO ME) IN THE HOSPITAL AS SHE DIED FROM BREAST/LIVER/AND BRAIN CACER, THEY LEFT SEVERAL RUDE AND OBNOXIOUS MESSAGES ON MY ANWERING MACHINE DEMANDING PAYMENT. EVEN AFTER I EXPLAINED THE SITUATION. EVEN AFTER I PAID MY BILL IN FULL, EARLIER THAN WE HAD ARRANGED WITH THE OFFICE MANAGER, THEY CONTINUE TO BE RUDE, RUTHLESS, UNCARING PEOPLE, ONLY INTERESTED IN COLLECTING BIG BUCKS.
EVERTIME I GO IN TO PICK UP A PRESCRIPTION, THEY MAKE ME WAIT FOR AT LEAST AN HOUR, EVEN AFTER I CALL DAYS IN ADVANCE AND JUST BEFORE I LEAVE MY HOUSE TO GO PICK IT UP.
I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE. AS I SAID EARLIER..............I'M VERY SORRY I EVER WALKED IN THE DOORS!

PROS: NONE
CONS: DISGUSTING SERVICE
