This is a top notch shop and should be the only place you go for all of your fish hobby needs. Kelly is a warm and caring person that does not try to just sell you something to make a dollar. She runs a fabulous shop with the help of her great staff. I know the owner Kent very well and he too will go out of his way to make sure that you are very happy.

I have been to Barrier Reef a few times, now, and I find their fish very healthy, in general. Occasionally tanks are infected. This happens everywhere. In Barrier Reef, they mark every tank that has a problem and won't sell any fish from affected tanks, until the problem clears up, and they are sure the fish are well. I have seen tanks in other chain stores (Pet Smart-441 Royal Palm) where the water is cloudy, fish are dead, and they were selling fish directly from those tanks. I walked out of Pet Smart for that reason. I find the customer service at Barrier Reef adequate. There are times I'd like to wait less for a sales person to help me, but I realize there are others who came before me, and I wait my turn. They don't rush the person who is being helped and I know when it's my turn I will receive the same courtesy. I find the help knowledgable and helpful.

I have shopped there for over 4 years now. I go there every week for my salt water..good people(some others will lie and try to sell you there mother....Robbin).. They get nice corals in from time to time.. My only issue with them is they are over priced by far.. It blows me away every time I go in there and see the prices..I'm not sure how they justify it.. As it sits and sits they tend to lower the cost to a more average price.. I no longer buy corals there 1.. Because of there pricing ( example a 3 headed blasto for $189.00 most lfs sell that for $30-50$)....2.....a lot of there corals seem to be having a lot of issues such as diseases/infections...most are bleached.. I went in there yesterday to purchase a new ph probe now they had a pinpoint for $67, now the suggested retail price is $57.99.. 10$ over and most lfs sell $10 under when I said something to them they went willing to do anything as far as the price they sent it back on the shelf and said anything else you need...I was so shocked after I had said something and showed them that online you can get it for 30.00$ they didn't try/care that a 4 year customer was willing to walk out... For all of y'all who say this stores the best and has great quality, pricing, service.. You must not be a serious/experienced hobbyist.. I can send you to 5 other lfs that beat there price by a min of 30% and are more knowlageable/experienced in the hobby...they won't disc out a coral causes it's sick and try to sell it to you.. They would not even suggest you buy it unless you have a quarantine tank.... This place has been in business for 30 years it's time for them to stop taking our hard earned money and being more reasonable with pricing..

Barrier reef is the most reccomended fish store from me. Barrier reef is amazing, they got me inspired to start a fresh water aquarium. I go in their today (my first time) and i see all different kinds of exzotic fish, they had the coolest thing ever a sting ray!!! If u had a salt water fish tank (about 30 gallons) u could buy it. I came in their to get the rarest kind of betta fish a Halfmoon betta! The people their are very freindly and some are very knowledgeable on what u want. And u could even get live sea plants like coral, sea urchants, enenomany, and ect. they have all different water lives like sea types and fresh water types, i would recommend the fresh water type because it cost less $$.$$$.

first of all the women that work there are a bunch of idiots. the middle aged one dosent help worth jack. I remember standing waiting for assistance and she walk past about 5 times then picked up the phone when I walked up to her. the old lady was helpful with taking the fish out and bagging them but asking if the clownfish I picked up was compatible with the damsel I already had she said "oh they'll be fine together" that was bulls***. the damsel beat up my clownfish but didnt kill it. The only helpful people there are the young guy and the manager Robin. The fresh water fish they have there are just a front for a salt water only store. the rocks are kinda over priced but they do have some pretty nice frags with feather dusters and other stuff. And another thing go in there knowing what you need. they love selling you the most expensive s*** they have. I wont tell you not to go there but if you do be prepared. I go there weekly and only deal with the two guys I mentioned. The young guy is the S*** though>

Besides having them sell me a tank of fish that all died 2 years ago, i just found out the perfecto 225 gallon tank is leaking and they refuse to replace or repair it. they sold me a custom stand which perfecto says voided the warranty.

some store!!!!

HIGHLY RECOMMEND! They have helped us set up our saltwater tank every step of the way (we knew next to nothing when we started) and now we have a beautiful reef tank. Everyone has been very friendly and knowledgeable. Compared to other stores, their tanks are kept very clean. Everything that we have purchased has been healthy and has thrived in our tank.

You people are on drugs! I have been going there for over 20 years and the service is always great. The sales people are very attentive, friendly and knowledgable. Prices are what they are. If you want exotic fish, you have to pay the price. I have absolutely no problem recommending this place.

I could not agree more with the review written by PM. I was is a week ago and things have gone down hill dramatically at Barrier Reef. I used to have a salt water tank about 2 years back and I would be in the store at least once a week to check the selection and make a purchase now and again. Now it is like a totally different store. The staff is not even that friendly! There was one kid there who did give me some assistance but the woman was just plain nasty! I tried to ask a simple question and she treated me as though I was asking her to change the rotation of the earth. I was just trying to buy a simple fan-tail goldfish for my girlfriend and I had such good luck in the past with their fish that I thought it was the best place to go. Plus I wanted to show her all the cool salt water fish and live coral because I am trying to sell her on the idea of getting a new salt water tank for our house. Needless to say - Barrier Reef did not help my cause. You know its a bad sign when there are dead fish in the display tanks and I would say that 20-30% of the fresh water tanks had dead ones being chewed on by the other fish in the tanks. The fish looked unhealthy and the variety was very poor. I did not spend a lot of time looking over the salt water fist but I did notice that they are only carrying about half the stock they were 2 years ago. Against my better judgement and because my girlfriend was excited about buying her own fish for our tank we went ahead and purchased 2 goldfish. They were both dead within 30 hours. The tank they went in to was an established 50 gallon tank that has 3 very healthy goldfish so there is nothing wrong with my tank - there is something wrong with Barrier Reef. We ended up buying 2 goldfish at the new PetSmart on Linton and they are as healthy as can be. The best part about it is that they have a 2 week guaranty. Barrier Reef has no such thing - once you walk out the door, their responsibility ends . I thought they used to have some sort of return policy but I may be wrong. OK, this is longer than I wanted it to be but I just wanted to let everyone know how angry I was about my experience at Barrier Reef. I don't any suggestions about where to buy saltwater fish anymore but if you are just looking for some basic freshwater fish. try PetSmart. They were at least helpful and and enjoyable to be around. They also seemed to be pretty knowledgeable about fish. Hope this helps.

They have a wide selection and their staff is very knowledgeable and helpful, when you can get their attention and they are in the right mood. Their customer service can be well below sub par. Sometimes they just flat out ignore you. The have a tendency to make up pricing as they go along on some items and, NEVER return something for store credit if you don't buy something that day to replace. If you lose your credit receipt, it could be months before their "accountant gets to it when they get to it. It's our lowest priority if you lose your credit receipt." They can keep track of every item you have ever purchased and see the amount of store credit you have but, without the transaction # printed conveniently only on the hard receipt which they don't keep a copy of in house either, it is completely unusable.

This aquatic animals pet store has it all: fish, turtles, tanks, tank accessories, food, decorations, etc. The prices are fair, though certainly not cheap. They have an extensive collection of tanks available for purchase and customization. They have various fish and a limited amount of reptiles for purchase. They also sell live coral. Their selection of filters, however, is limited. In my experiene buying turtles, fish, and turtle food, they always have had what I was looking for in stock and at a fair--though not cheap--price.

The people are fairly friendly and very knowledgeable. You tell them what you are looking for and they are sure to find it. Their hours are limited but then again, they are a specialty store. Considering the fact that there are not many other stores in the area that sell fish and reptiles, they can set their hours and prices at will.
