I took a friend of mine to Exotica, on his insistence, to get a tongue and ear piercing. I tried to talk him into going to a different studio, but he thought Exotica would be fine. The shop is in a trailer, which made me a little uncertain about the place - I assumed it would be dodgy and unclean. I couldn't have been more wrong. The inside of the place was immaculately clean, as well as comfortable and unintimidating. I went back with my friend when he got his piercing and I watched the piercer like a hawk; he performed two piercings on my friend (tongue and ear), and changed his gloves at least four times, possibly more, during the course of each piercing. Everything was autoclaved, everything was fresh and clean, and the piercer obviously took sanitation very seriously. Since my friend was just getting a piercing I didn't get to check out the quality of the tattoos, so I don't know what kind of work they do, but I imagine the setup is at least as clean and sterile as the piercing room. Like I said in the title, don't judge this book by its cover! Exotica may be located in a trailer-type building, but once you go inside, it's easy to see that it's a quality place that takes hygiene very seriously!
