I've lived in Asia, New York and California before moving to Gainesville. It's been hard for me to have limited access to foods I'm accustomed to, particularly Japanese foods. My visit to Chun Ching yesterday was the first time in Florida that I've seen the spices and sauces I need to cook Japanese foods. It's the only place I've found with a fresh supply of enoki mushrooms, and the prices are reasonable. I'm headed back!

This place just moved to 8th Street and expanded. GREAT selection of fresh asian and convensional veggies, frozen and preserved asian foods. They even had fresh Kaffir lime leaves and lemon grass for my favorite Thai dishes. As for making an attempt at fresh, healthy, affordable California-style eating in Gainesville, this is THE grocery. If you need cheese (I can't eat it) this ins't the place to find it but just go in any other establishment here and there is no escape from it. Also, they are open late to at least 10pm or so at night, and are friendly.

I go to Chun Ching Oreiental food and gift supply center weekly. It is just around the corner of Ward's supermarket. It has a lot of Chinese food and Japanese, as well as Korean food. The price is reasonable. They provide Chinese cakes, cookies, moon cakes, simple dishes. I like it.

I have gone a couple of times on Friday afternoons because this is apparently when they get a shipment of new products which includes baked goods, fresh seafood (some lobsters, etc are still moving) and Asian cooking vegetables.
Every time I have been the place has been VERY crowded. The prices are reasonable compared to other Asian grocery stores in the area. The aisles are narrow but they have a little of everything.
There is enough parking but at first it is hard to find the entrance to the parking space because it is narrow (only enough space for traffic in one direction) and because the parking is on grass/dirt, if it has been raining you will get mud on your car tires and shoes.

The Chinese super market is small. It has many Chinese items inside, but the store is not clean and tidy enough. Some of the food there are not good enough. Some of the items are a little cheaper than that in other chinese stores. However, it's really a little too small, usually it's very crowded when people are shopping. The items are everywhere in the store, which makes it harder to find specific items.
