We went to dinner here after walking around Key West for a day. We had an absolutely wonderful time despite being exhausted. The environment and setting was intimate, which would probably be better for dates rather than a family outing. Nonetheless, the food there was excellent and absolutely delicious; however, it is expensive ($30 soups) so again it is more for dates and "leave the kids at home" dinner.

A & B Lobster House has a fabulous Happy Hour. We enjoyed it so much we went twice. The appetizers are half price so you can have your dinner at a fabulous restaurant with great view of the marina and dock for cheap. Order multiple appetizers to fill up. Our favorite was the buffalo shrimp but all of the appetizers were great. Sitting outside by the the marina made this an enjoyable, although early, dinner.

A&B Lobster House is an amazing restaurant. The location is lovely. Just the way you want to dine on your special vacation evening out. The cuisine to delectable. Of course we ordered the lobster. However, be prepared to pay the price. If money is no object, enjoy. If you are stretching that vacation fund allotment, you may be better off walking the wharf. There are many wonderful restaurants in the area.

After making a reservation a week in advance and calling to confirm several days before we arrived at the restaurant in time for our 9 pm reservation only to be told they didn't have our reservation and the wait for a table was more than an hour. The hostesses we unapologetic despite a cell phone call log that proved we had called when we said we did. She was conviced we were lying and it wasn't her problem. After much fuss and getting the manager's attention, we were seated after 30 minutes. During that time, we waited in the bar and the hostess happily came in to show us that our reservation was actually for Saturday night. It was clearly a mistake since Saturday night was Lobsterfest and no one would have made a reservation when Duval Street was filled with Florida lobster dishes at half the price. Again, she was sure we had arrived on the wrong night. Our waiter seemed to be bothered that we arrived. The lobster bisque was bland and tasteless without a hint of fish base or sherry. There was too much thickener. I left much of it in my bowl, which is unusual. My dining companion did the same. The Flordia lobster was over cooked and the resulting texture was closer to chicken than lobster. My companion ordered a grouper dish that came piled on a mound of grey mashed potatoes and layered with a grey crab cake and then topped with fried onions. My companion left most of it on his plate. Service was generally inattentive, and our waiter did not check to see if we were enjoying our dinners. If he had, another diner in the party would have reported that her lobster was over cooked and close to inedible. By 10:30 when we received our entrees, we were all to tired and beat up to complain. And, dissapointingly, the manager never made even a token gesture of apology. It would have been appropriate to have sent over a drink during our wait, dessert for the table, or, at the very least, paid us a visit to see how our dinner was progressing. Sloppy work all around.

Pros: Outside tables are on the water

Cons: Many steep steps to climb to reach restaurant; Food very mediocre; service inattentive and amaturish

.

the prices were somewhat unreasonable, but the food was definately good. i recommend going there between 4 and 6 pm for appetizers, then going somewhere more affordable for dinner.

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful! My husband and I ate here while we were in Key West for a friend's wedding. The food was terrific and the service was great as well. It is pricey, but well worth the money. The decor is fairly formal, but the atmosphere is not ""stuffy"" by any means (is anything in Key West?!). I would definitely dine here again if I ever return to Key West.

We came here on the recommendation of our hotel. They were right, this restaurant is great. We got a great seat out on the porch which had a beautiful view and really made our 1st evening. Our waiter could not have been nicer to us. Our food was excellent. This is a great place for a romantic evening that is nice and relaxing without too much formality, but the service and food is definitely right up there with the most formal and fancy of places.

There are a number of better known restaurants in Key West that have maintained their popularity over time and A and B Lobster House is one of those favorites. Its location upstairs above Alonzos Oyster Bar gives the diner a birds eye view of the Old Seaport and the many boats that come and go throughout the day and right away that sets it apart. When you add the high quality of the food served you can see how this spot has withstood the test of time.
The clientele, from my observation, are predominantly visitors to the island as the economy, such as it is here in Key West, does not allow local residents in the dominant service industry to afford the prices at many of the high-end eating spots like A and B. Youll find that a main course and a bottle of reasonably good wine will set you back about $200.00. You will pay for the white linen, view, well-dressed servers and specialty menu items. Its a place where regular resort guests tend to make a part of their restaurant itinerary on each visit.
I find that I can go to a number of eating locales in Key West and get the same quality and food choices at a considerably lower price and still enjoy the experience, but A and B has its place in the realm of high dining. You just need to make the individual decision as to its worth. I enjoyed my meal of lobster and filet mainly because it was a special occasion and the company was fun and enjoyable and the server was quite good. The ambiance and history of the building itself also adds a lot to the experience.
Id say if youre looking for one of the top 10 refined eating opportunities Key West has to offer then the end of Front Street on the docks of the Historic Seaport should be your destination. In the vast universe of dining opportunities on the southernmost island I guess Im just a fan of a genuine Keys eating environment where I can get a wide variety of food at a reasonable price.
