Mark's Ark is great! I went in the other day because I wanted to buy some food for a homeless man's dog. The employee not only helped me out but was so moved that he also bought a bag of dog food for the guy!! I love this place!

DO NOT GO HERE!! :( this place is unbelivable!!! i have been there a few times and all the rodents have looked dead. the last time i went one was, the time befor that a frog on display was dead. the way they take care of the dead animal was very unprofessional, enfront of children they picked it out of the cage and dropped it in a bag. :( i did love the place with its wide selection of animals and cheap prices but as many dead animals that i had to tell the owner about is not right! the store is to hot and cuase many of the animls to pant and get heat stroke!!! tell you what, i wont ever be taking my family there again i will pay the extra 20 dollars elswhere.

We are sorry for your last visit and the unpleasantness of seeing a dead animal. We check the animals on display several times a day for issues like this so they stay to a minimum. The animals when found are removed immediately and in your case should have been done with more discretion. As for the AC, this is a constant battle for us since we do not own the AC units, the landlord does. With the amount of aquariums, fresh and salt, the humidity in the air causes excessive stress on the systems and they require constant service. Since the time of your review, we have changed management and staff and would appreciate another opportunity to change your mind.

It's the best place to go for the really cool and exotic fish. I got an aquarium for my birthday last Aug. and have been going there ever since.We also bought a hand fed cocatiel and really love it.

I bought a suriname red tail boa from them about two years ago, about one month after I bought the snake it died, because it was sick. I would not keep any of its food down since the day I got it...

I am sorry you had such a bad experience with our store. I wish this problem would have been brought to our attention before you posted this review, as we would have attempted to rectify the situation at the time. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee livestock as there are many variables involved in their care and maintenance, and we cannot control what occurs when the animal leaves our store. Many of our reptiles are rescues or owner surrenders, and we do our best to make sure they are healthy before we sell them, but again we cannot control the conditions in which they are kept prior to their arrival in our store. All of our reptiles are assessed and treated accordingly before they are sold. Snakes which do not eat are kept under close watch and care before they are sold. We have changed management and staff since your last visit and currently have 3 experienced Animal Care Employees whose focus and sole purpose is to make sure our small animals and reptiles are clean and healthy. We would appreciate another opportunity to do business with you in the future.

I recomend Marks Ark to all my freinds. I've been shopping there for three years and find the staff to be freindly and helpful. It's hard to find an individually operated pet store like this anymore. The only advise I would have would be to hire at least one spanish speaking employee.

I've been going to this store for at least 12 years now and I have always been treated politly and professionally. I don't know what the motivation for the negitive comments is , but I can attest to the reliable products and good customer service. With the difficult economic times I would hate to see a GOOD & HONEST small buisnes be harmed by the slander and lies that can be posted without accoutabillity. I am not one to post or blog or tweet anything online but this is too much! Stores like Mark's Ark are hard to find!

Your comments are quite hurtful. I am sorry that you thought your opinion was correct and that we should have given those opossums to the FWC. We were never asked by the FWC to do anything with the opossums. Baby opossums can make good pets if the customer takes care of them properly ie........have them sterilized before they mature. As for the comment of "we don't care" this part can't be farther from the truth. If you have had bad experiences in the past with Mark's Ark I can assure you that the management and staff at that time no longer work here.

This store is horrible! Never buy an animal or anything else from them. A few years back my brother bought a iguana from them and the sold him a tiny cage and a heat rock stating that this is what the animal will need. when it turn's out heat rocks are the worst thing for them. because their heat sensor is on their head and a heat rock will only burn them. also the small cage didn't last us to long seeing as the get to be 6 ft long. they were just try to get as much money as they could out of my brother.

Even today they are just as bad as ever. they may have moved to a new store but they are still extremely dirty and don't really care that much for the animals. they have beautiful that any rat owner would go out of their way to get. but instead of selling them as pets the sell them as feeders shoving around 20 into tiny tanks with only water bowls and nasty food. They also have them on bedding that causes them to have repository problems. the sad thing is any one of those rats would make a kind and loving pet then any of those snakes or other reptiles.

It's not just the rats area that is disgusting its the whole place. they also don't try and socialize any of their animals so that they will be a better pets. also most likely all of their animals just come from mills (like puppy mills) where they are contentiously breeding animals and selling them off to pet stores. that's where most pet stores get their animals. even you want to get a good pet for you and your family it's better to just go to the shelter. their are a bunch of them in this area and they actually care for the animals mental and physical needs. try using petfinder.com its a great site!

I am sorry for your unpleasant visit those many years ago. Heat rocks are not the best choice of heat for iguanas but can work. We have been working diligently to maintain a cleaner appearance in the last few months this is something that we will always strive to do better. We do care for our animals and everyone that is employed here now is very fond of rats. Rats Do make wonderful pets but the fact of the matter is very few people want a Rat as a pet. If we are lucky we sell 1 a month as a pet. Socializing animals is something we do as the day goes along. Being an Independent store we have the freedom to walk through the store and handle the animals in our care unlike the "Super stores". Sometimes certain animals need more attention than others, but we cannot spend quality time with animals when there are Customers in need of our attention. We have an extensive list of customers that we adopt to and from on a regular basis. There are no other stores in the area that do this or as much as we do. And finally, since your last visit our staff and management have changed for the better and we have been making changes to better the things we do on a weekly basis. We hope you may give us another chance in the future.

It is very unfortunate that this keeps happening to you. If you have visited us on the weekends or on fish delivery nights these are the busiest nights for us, even with 5 and 6 people on staff. We have recently changed management and staff and this is a hot button for us. If we can't help the customers properly, we can't stay in business. Lie is a very strong word and not fair. We do not Order guinea pigs, we get them from customers that breed them or have surprises. If we told you that the guinea pig is 2 months old that is what was told to us by the former parents or our best approximation. It is sad that your guinea pig died well before its time but there are several reasons as to why they could have passed. This is a case where it is best we don't do business together any more.

I've been shopping at Mark's Ark pet store for over 15 years. That's right ,15 YEARS. I have also waited to be helped but the staff always acknowledges me and does there best to help me. The store is just busy! It's busy for a good reason.The staff is knowledgeable and FRIENDLY. The animals are healthy and well cared for.I know it is difficult to run a small business these days with the big box stores and Internet commerce to cope with but these guys give you what those can not ,personal service.It makes me wonder if the negative reviews are not posted by the competition?

To everyone complaining about having to wait there is a very good reason for that, the story is always busy. Just because you are waiting doesn't mean they don't care about your business. Patience people.

The staff is very knowledgeable & because of such they take time with each customer. I have heard staff tell customers comments while I have waited,"I don't want to sell you a couple hundred dollars of fish & then have them die on you because you don't have your system set up correctly." I've heard conversations with the reptiles where people have discovered everything they thought they knew when they shopped at a different store was completely wrong. The staff will explain each & every species to you with skill. This requires time & those customers needing this extra time really appreciate an experienced staff.

There is always someone at the register because there is typically a steady line of people happily spending their money. If you are a quick in out customer I suggest you hop in line so that they can assist you in order. Novel concept eh?

There is only one reason why anyone would wait for service & that is because staff is busy serving someone & the only businesses that are that busy these days & GOOD businesses. There are a large number of pet supply stores closing all over the county. This one is going strong!

I have to agree with Bohdana B. I have been going to Marks Ark since I started up my salt water tank two years ago. I hate going in to purchase anything; I know they will ignore me. If I had to purchase salt water, forget it! They would totally ignore me. They have moved the access to the salt water to the middle of the store, so now they have to wait on me. I have too waited over 30 minutes for someone to wait on me; some of their help would not even look at me. They hang with each other and talk like they are too busy, as if the customer was the enemy. I too would go to another store, and I have in frustration

With our former staff and management I have unfortunately heard this as a regular occurrence. I am sorry for your wasted time and complete frustration. We have gone through quite a few changes in the last few months and are hopeful that you may visit with us in the future.

I'm sure Mark is a nice guy, but his staff is terrible. They don't pay attention to customers. When you walk in good luck getting anyone to help you. I have asked for help and waited 30 minutes just to finally walk out. I have tried over and over again to shop there since there are hardly any fish shops in the area. I have finally decided not to go anymore and drive half way across town. The last thing that caused this was one of the employees that gave me a trumped up price on a piece of coral. Here is what happened...

I gave them some of my fish for store credit. I had bought them from another store a few months before and decided that I wanted to make my tank reef safe. I guess they wanted me to spend money, so they raised the price of a piece of coral. Here is what happened...

The coral price was not marked, so one of the employees asked another employee how much the coral was. This employee seemed to be in charge. I'm not sure if she is the assistant manager or what, but she seems to have some authority in the store. Anyway, instead of just giving the other employee the price she asked who it was for. I don't think she knew that I heard her. When the employee indicated that it was for me she gave an outrageous price. The employee came back to tell me the price, and I told her that was rather high for a little frag of common pumping xenia. The employee agreed with me and quietly indicated that they would not buy it either. How wrong is that! I'm not sure if she still works there, but I have not been there since.

I'm tired of having to chase someone down for help to only get treated like crap. I much rather drive 40 minutes away and get good customer service and fish that eat. Every time I would buy fish from this place they would not eat and die. Fish I got from other store always ate. Mark's Ark is also very dirty. I know they can do better than that. If I plan on spending $60 on a fish and I ask for that fish to be fed, then why can't they feed the fish. I'm not asking for them to throw in a lot of food. Just put a little something in the tank so that I can see the fish eats. They refused to feed the fish, so I refused to buy them.

I'm sure Mark is a nice guy, but his staff is terrible. They don't pay attention to customers. When you walk in good luck getting anyone to help you. I have asked for help and waited 30 minutes just to finally walk out. I have tried over and over again to shop there since there are hardly any fish shops in the area. I have finally decided not to go anymore and drive half way across town. The last thing that caused this was one of the employees that gave me a trumped up price on a piece of coral. Here is what happened...

I gave them some of my fish for store credit. I had bought them from another store a few months before and decided that I wanted to make my tank reef safe. I guess they wanted me to spend money, so they raised the price of a piece of coral. Here is what happened...

The coral price was not marked, so one of the employees asked another employee how much the coral was. This employee seemed to be in charge. I'm not sure if she is the assistant manager or what, but she seems to have some authority in the store. Anyway, instead of just giving the other employee the price she asked who it was for. I don't think she knew that I heard her. When the employee indicated that it was for me she gave an outrageous price. The employee came back to tell me the price, and I told her that was rather high for a little frag of common pumping xenia. The employee agreed with me and quietly indicated that they would not buy it either. How wrong is that! I'm not sure if she still works there, but I have not been there since.

I'm tired of having to chase someone down for help to only get treated like crap. I much rather drive 40 minutes away and get good customer service and fish that eat. Every time I would buy fish from this place they would not eat and die. Fish I got from other store always ate. Mark's Ark is also very dirty. I know they can do better than that. If I plan on spending $60 on a fish and I ask for that fish to be fed, then why can't they feed the fish. I'm not asking for them to throw in a lot of food. Just put a little something in the tank so that I can see the fish eats. They refused to feed the fish, so I refused to buy them.

Do yourself a favor, and spend your money somewhere else. It will save you money and time.

Lack of customer service in this situation is inexcusable. If you ask us to feed a fish, it should be done immediately. If the fish doesn't eat here......it will not eat at home. This is the risk everyone takes in this hobby. Unfortunately I can not speak for the Xenia pricing. However, I can say that the prices are NOT changed for each person or because it was a trade in. We are the only store in town that allows our customers to trade in animals. I cannot change what has happened in the past or how you were treated and am truly sorry for this rift. We have changed management and staff in the past 6 months and we are working very hard every day to make sure that issues like this cease to exist.

Total shame, as i have been a customer at Mark's Ark for at least 8 years. You need to wait on customers to keep them, too many other places to shop at. This store is way too dirty. they have good tanks and stuff but very poor care. i wouldnt suggest this store to anyone that is looking for good service and quality. i've been to better pet stores in the area such as Wet Kisses Pet Co. on Lantana and Jog its very nice and extremely friendly staff

I am sorry for the dust on your last visit. We have been experimenting with different types of bedding and working on a rotational cleaning schedule to make sure that everything in the store gets cleaned once a month. Patience with this is greatly appreciated as we are working on this issue. In the past with former management, this was not an important issue but I assure you now that it is an important issue.

Mark's Ark is the best is the best pet shop I've seen. Goes above and beyond Petsmart, Pecto and Petsupermarket. Petsmart, Petco and Petsupermarket ALWAYS have tons of dead fish in their tanks, ALWAYS! Over the year and a half that I have been to Mark's Ark, I have probably seen a total of 5 dead fish, which they noticed and took care of right away! I've been here many, many times and they have the best prices for everything that I have seen so far in my pet shopping experiences.They have both fresh and saltwater fish and they have teh best prices I have seen for tanks and hoods. They do sell much more than just fish however. They have birds, reptiles, hamsters, mice, ferrets and many more! Plus all of the accessories that go with those pets! I would, and already do, recommend them to everyone!

Ive been going to mark's for many years now! There's always a huge selection of everything. I highly recommend them for a wide variety as well as a "one stop" shopping pet store. The store is always clean and does not smell. thats a big deal to me!! It says alot about how well they treat their own animals in the store and thats so important.

Their new location is even better than the old. They carry supplies at nice prices and the staff is always there and helpful. Their tanks are always clean and so are their cages. The animals always look healthy. I've bought fish and animals from them and will continue to do so. Love that they will test your aquarium water for you.
