Lunch. A casual meal shared by two of more people offering an opportunity to discuss the business day thus far, or perhaps a chance to build personal relationships. Given those circumstances, WHERE to eat is as important as WHAT to eat.

My colleage and I chose to go back to Sekisui. We'd been there before and had consistently "okay" food with varying degrees of service. It had been a while, but we thought we'd chance it. We were seated promptly and courteously, issued menus, given drinks and left to decide what to have. We both chose their "lunch boxes", hers @$8.95, mine @ $11.95 (as listed on the menu).

Lunch was preceded by our drinks, miso soup and salad. My iced tea was undrinkable because it was a) weak, and b) still tasted of chlorine from the kitchen. Our miso soup was so bland and contained so little miso that it was really just water with strips of inedible seaweed. When our lunch boxes arrived, we were relieved that we received something wholly edible. Lunch was not a total loss, or....

The check came. My lunch box appeared as $12.95 on the check. But the menu? Didn't I see $11.95? I decided to ask about the error and was informed that what I saw was the old menu (the one I ordered from). The new price was $12.95. When I explained that I should be charged the price I saw on the menu, the "manager" intervened and TOLD me that that menu was from 3 years ago, I received more than $12.95 in food value and that I would PAY the $12.95. Then he turned his heel and huffed off angry that I was pointing out that what the customer sees as the price is what should be charged. I paid, vowing never to return again. This was my third (and final) bad experience with that place. I believe in "word of mouth". If a place is good, I'll sing its praises, but when the management of a restaurant tells me, the customer, that I are wrong because they failed to throw away old menus... BAD RESTAURANT!!! Enter at your own risk!

Pros: Nice atmosphere, great music, nice decor

Cons: You leave smelling greasy from the fumes of the open kitchen.

I like Sekisui's food the best in Jacksonville.
Everytime I go, I cannot decide what I want because they have a lot of selection. I tried different kind of food and every food I tried was good and fresh!

If you like sushi, I really recommend to go to this restaurant. I saw the sign at the front door and it said
" now open 7days/week." (11:30AM-9:00/10:00PM)

Lunch time was busy but food and service was good.
I got "Sushi Lunch" ($11.95) and Green Tea ($1.50).
My friend got "lunch boxes" ($8.95) and Iced Tea ($1.95). Both lunch came with soup (Miso or Clear soup) and Fresh salad w/Ginger dressing. I picked Clear soup and I liked it. According to my friend, her miso soup was good, too. Of course, Our entrees were so good, too.

I think Sekisui is my favorite restaurant so far!!!

We were a party of 3 tonight and it was our first time in this restaurant. We were all very disappointed. Our waitress was very impatient with us asking questions, she never came back and refilled or even asked if we wanted anything else to drink; she left an empty dish on the table and when I asked what it was for she said soy sauce and never filled it even though I saw other servers filling the dishes with soy sauce. I ordered an appetizer that came after everyone was done eating and the meat was raw in the middle. The waitress never once apologized for the food taking so long or that it wasn't cooked. We asked for no garlic or onions and on my husband's plate was a onion tempura. When it was pointed out that there was an onion on the plate, her response was yea that's an onion. The place was recommended to us and I am sorry to say that because of the horrible service we got we may never be back again.

I went to Sekisui and we waited over an hour for our food (despite only being two of us). The service was unapologetic and when we asked for them to give us a discount or at least two beers while we waited and to make up for our inconvenience, they refused. I will not go back there again.

This is a world-class sushi restaurant featuring many dishes you simply cannot find elsewhere in Jacksonville.
Noodle soup, exotic sushi delicacies, grilled skewers (including bacon-wrapped quail eggs), excellent tempura.

Best service tends to be at the sushi bar. Don't be put off by the fact that it's in a Winn-Dixie shopping plaza. The restaurant is lovely inside. (You won't recognize it from it's former incarnation as a "Souper Salad" type place.)
