Reviews for Bahn Thai Restaurant

Ratings_icons BAHN THAI AWESOME

alexandra r.

I'm a little surprised about the previous reviews that Bahn Thai is pricey, and they charge for split fee. I'm a repeat customer, and I have shared the split fee with my boyfriend... they bring out extra rice for the extra customer, so the 1 whole dollar extra makes sense. Except for soups and such, which is a little ridiculous. Don't tell them you're sharing! It should never be the establishments fault for not taking off of 13 dollars worth of food just because it is not within your tastes. 20% tip off the deducted price would probably mean they're just covering the food you didn't like. There are a lot of finicky eaters and restaurants such as these would lose money if they kept deducting from patrons who are used to macaroni and cheese. I personally love their Thai tea! The items on their menu are not expensive. It is not more expensive than a Friday's or Applebee's. Their Pad Thai is the best I've ever tried anywhere in the US, and their Patang is excellent. I cannot stand to see someone not go to this restaurant because of the previous reviewer. Trust me, they think the world owes them. It is one of Tallahassee's gems. (It even has karaoke)!!!

Ratings_icons Good food but almost lost our business

Pamela L.

Every time we have gone to this restaurant, the food has been really good. However, they almost lost our business. Before we ordered our main course, we ordered $9 in appetizers and $4 in tea that we did not like and did not drink but that they wouldn't take off the bill. Even though we got soup, they still charged a split plate fee (which on menu said the fee was only for persons not eating, NOT for splitting plates). I have worked in the food service industry. You generally only add a split plate fee for people who are being cheap or getting low-cost meals, water, and splitting meals, etc. You shouldn't do it for people who tip over 20% and who get appetizers, etc. and who are repeat customers! I feel this is greedy (as this was not the server's decision, the owner/management made her).
I have noticed that most Thai restaurants are on the pricy side and this is no exception. I do agree that the atmosphere does not match the price. If I weren't addicted to their coconut soup (available in vegetarian and non-vegetarian) then I may just eat elsewhere. I would suggest going because the food is great, but that experience left me unable to give them more than 3 stars and if they try to overcharge us again we will never go back.

PROS: flavourful, good food
CONS: too expensive for atmosphere, were overcharged

Ratings_icons Great food and service

I've eaten at Bahn Thai a number of times and the food and service is always good. I have a weakness for curries, and they have plenty to choose from. Each curry dish comes in a few varieties of heat (or spiciness), just ask if you aren't sure. My only complaint would be that they are a bit pricey for dinner, and the atmosphere doesn't match the price. A friend of mine didn't like it because they don't have a Coke fountain and only sell cans of coke for a dollar a piece - no big deal to me, but I'm sure some have to have unlimited coke supplies available when eating spicy thai. I would definately recommend the lunch buffet for anyone not sure about Thai food, or wanting to try Bahn Thai out (or on a college budget). I think its from 11-2:30pm M-F, and around $6.

PROS: good food, lunch buffet
CONS: expensive for dinner
