I ordered the Snapper Lafayette. The menu describes it as "Fresh Filet of Snapper Lightly Blackened & Topped with a Spicy Cajun Crawfish Sauce. Served with Rice Pilaf & Vegetables." It wasn't just topped, it was smothered. I couldn't even see much less taste fish. It honestly looked more like someone had vomitted on my plate. There was nothing appetizing in the presentation at all! There didn't appear to be any blackening either. The sauce was too thick and not tasty at all. The vegetable was the "vegetable of the day" and really seemed like a hodge podge of leftover vegetables. It was a medley of green beans, carrots, and squash. The waitress refilled my wife's Dr Pepper by bringing another glass to the table, and topping off the glass she was drinking from with it. My wife's dinner was the "salmon cooked to perfection." It was missing the prefix IM for IMperfection. It was horribly dry, and slightly burnt. Her asparagus was tough, and burnt. This seafood restaurant prides itself on it's hush puppies and the wait staff is only too excited to serve them. They're ok but not the kind of fare I expect at a seafood restaurant. They came with a cheese sauce that was clearly poured from a jar and reheated. The interior of this building is disgusting. The booth we sat at was losing it's covering and had several holes that exposed stuffing. The chairs were old and not very inviting, the carpet was worn and dirty, and the restrooms were musty and falling apart. When we left we noted that the bulk of the crowd was over 60. That may be because the menu has several senior discounted items at nearly half off. At $8.95 a plate vs $15.95 I'm sure the place is a good value as it's slightly more than a fast food value meal for a seafood experience. But when I'm paying $15.95 a plate I expect better quality and better atmosphere. The service was ok but could've been better. For whatever reason, the waitstaff doesn't have specific sections to tend to but rather tables scattered throughout the restaurant. This left them unable to fully attend to our needs. We waited 20 patient minutes for our check. At times other staff hung around and had ultra personal conversations within earshot. The bus boy was also seen stacking dirty dishes in plain view in a tub that sat out near the restrooms. This place has a lot of potential. Several people on various sites have reviewed that the view from this restaurant is amazing, and it is. The window overlooking the bay provides a spectacular dining experience, that is ruined by the inside and the food.

We discovered Hall's years ago and fell in love with their crab claws. The original restaurant was in a little building and it stayed full most of the time. They now have a larger building beside the old building. The crab claw are still just as good. The hushpuppies and cheese sauce are brought out first. If you are not careful you will fill up before you get to the main course. All their seafood is delicious. If you have never tried frog leggs give them a try. We go to Hall's every time we are near Pensacola.
