Worst Thai food we ever had. Apps were not hot or tasty. Tried to order wine, but they didn't have most of what was on the menu. Dinner came wrapped in aluminum foil and didn't have enough spice or flavor. I had a coupon to use, but even with it we almost walked out. Don't waste your time here.

Pros: none

Cons: bad food, no wine, bad sticky table top

the soup was very very good, the pork appitizer not so much (They were dull). The outside appearance and inside ambiance were lacking (no pink napkins, no flowing fountain)but I thought the service was okay. The server didn't cater to us and but he didn't neglect us either. It was buy 1 get 1 half price entre night, but the bill was still $40 with tip and 2 beers. I thhought the shrimp in my dish were fresh and plentiful (9 big shrimp), the eggplant was just OMG good, but there was no heat to neither my nor my husband's food. If it's a local favorite for someone then I suspect as the staff gets to know you the food becomes more to your liking heat wise.....sometimes small Thai places are like that. We were in that area of town for local entertainment and I think I will try it next time we are in the neighborhood, it deserves a second chance....

Pros: Tom Kha Gai

Cons: food not spicy

I love Thai food, generally (except frozen), but I was terribly disappointed with both the service and the food at Lai Thai on E. Fletcher in Tampa. It does not even look like a restaurant from the outside, but I was following the first editorial review only on this website, by Sara Kennedy. It really looks like a closed down building. The buffet price on the website was outdated by a buck, then after awhile of forcing down some cold and nasty tasting food, I decided that I would have to grab a water glass off another table and fill it myself. After emptying my glass and giving up on the food, a waiter came by and filled up my water as I was leaving. Let me see if I can clearly explain what I mean by nasty tasting. The sticky rice was good, but had to use it to smoother down the Panang Chicken which looked and tasted more like Indian cooking (which I generally love too) than Thai, but it was too creamy with little substance and had real bad old tastes in it, here and there. The other chicken dish and the vegetable Pad Thai also had those real bad old tastes in them here and there, as if they were frozen for two years, then micro-waved. The spring rolls were just cold, gooey and useless tasting. Nothing was even spicy the way many Thai dishes should be. All dishes were cooler than average room temperature (within the noon to one hour), so luckily at least, so were the watermelon slices. I've never written a restaurant review before, so I hope this system doesn't force me to put in at least one Star, as Lai Thai doesn't deserve one at all (OK, I see that means "Not Recommended" - but is there a rating for "Avoid at all Costs"?). I'm going for my second piece of gum now to try and get the flavor out, and I'll deter from Sara's editorials going forward, because she's Lai-er!

Pros: Thumbs down

I love Tai food but was horribly disappointed with both the service and the food received at this restaurant. Not only did it take forever for the waiter to approach our table for the drink and food orders, but the place looks like a rundown hardware/craft store from the outside. It looks like the type of place that should have a little happy panda on the sign and fast food prices. The dinners are not good deals for the $12+ you pay for them, and the service is not worth tipping (and trust me, I have been a server and tip very well, but I also know how to please visitors). I have heard great reviews about this place but after giving Lai Tai three chances for a good visit , not once did they deliver quality food or service. During lunch buffet the buffet is hardly ever refilled; so you are stuck with cold spring roles and egg noodles at a price far from worth it. I recommend using the extra gas for good Tai food at a better price on Dale Mabry.

Have been going here for years. I have never had poor service--I always have execptional personal service. I love the added touch of warm towels at the end of my meal as well. Everything is authentic and great. A lovely date restaurant--she will be surprised at the ambiance and romantic side of this restaurant.

This is my favorite Thai restaurant for lunch in the USF area of Tampa. It's also very nice for dinner. The location is a little run down on the outside, but you have to go inside and have a meal. The staff is almost always incredibly cordial, helpful, and quick. The food is wonderful, try the Massaman Gai or the Larb Gai. The buffet table is a little small and not always up to par with the full entrees, but it serves it's purpose. Separate lunch entrees are priced very reasonably, so don't feel like you have to go to the buffet.

If you're a USF student, do not graduate without visiting this place at least once, especially at lunch.

PROS: Wonderful food, atmosphere, and service. Price is also reasonable.
CONS: Parking and outside of building is sketchy, buffet is a little small

I love this place. The food is SO good. The service is good. The atmosphere is very personal. They even have a big table if you want to bring a big group. If you go for dinner, you can usually sit without a wait although lunch is a different story. You should definately try the duck strips as an appetizer and then one of the curries for you meal. I like to get jasmine tea to go with my dinner. And don't forget to get Thai tea ifor after dinner f you like sweet drinks.

I drive pass this restaurant almost everyday and it doesn't look very appealing from the outside. But inside, it looks nice. My husband and I were seated immediately. The service was exceptional. The food, even better! I had the duck in garlic sauce dish, can't remember the name, but it was yummy. My husband had the shrimp dish, also good. You don't have to rob a bank to eat here. Prices are very reasonable. I'd definitely go back.
