We went to Tio PePe as a group of eight people, I order a filet medium well and when it arrived it was burnt crispy, the manager came arounmd and asked how was the food and when we told him the steak was burnt his comment was (NEXT TIME DO NOT ORDER A STEAK) so if you want lousy food and lousy service go to pepe.

Pros: None

Cons: EVERYTHING...service was horrible, food was even worse

For a couple decades Pepe's was the best of the best. But in the last few years the food and service have become little better than hit or miss. We used to frequent it for the house salad (the lettuce never refrigerated and picked from a select field) and specials like the trout or the 2" standing pork chop. However, our recent experience, after having been away for several years, left us wondering what went wrong--besides Pepe's long departure, and apparently his chef now, as well. I ordered the 2 inch pork chop, which used to be served on a platter standing on it's side. It used to take 45 minutes to cook such a thick piece of pork well. We were surprised when it came out in about 20 minutes, lying on it's side--floating in a pan of watery juice as if it had been boiled, then unceremoniously scraped onto my plate with a "splat." Keeping an open mind about this obviously new approach I cut into it. Immediately I was hit with a disgusting smell you usually only smell in a barnyard with pigs. The pork was totally raw inside. Not underdone, but blood red uncooked like a biology exhibit, with white tendons running through dark blood red meat. I turned it over and sliced into the other side to see if it was any better (more putrid smells): more raw pork with a thinly seared outside. My wife's fish was mushy and served cold by the way. At least the bread was unchanged. When I notified out waiter he looked disgusted and horrified at my pork. Not so the manager (who had already had an argument with another table over the quality of the food). He didn't offer any apology, or explanation and gave the impression that this was somehow my fault. We had lost our appetite so we just paid for the fish and left shortly afterward. I find it had to believe I'm writing this about Tio Pepe's, I place I had previously raved about. Since then I've heard others tell me it has fallen. Occasionally you still get "lucky"--apparently depending on which chef is working. But the service is so surly, including the woman who greets you at the door, and the place so dirty, I would never recommend it again.

We were eager to try this restaurant and made reservations for a Sat. night (not necessary, it was half empty). The server was inexperienced, did not have a good knowledge of the wine list and recommended a wine that was not very good. (obviously a college student). My husband ordered the lobster (overcooked and tough) and I had the grouper en papillotte (all stuffing and no fish). We will probably not go back. However, it did have a cozy interior and we had a great appetizer of serrano ham, manchego cheese and apple slices - though it would be hard to mess that up.

Was excited to try after not frequenting for a yr or so, We made a reservation for 7:00pm on a Saturday Night and was suprized to see we did not really need them. Very casual atmosphere. Meeting two other couples for dinner and service for water was great - from there it went down hill fast. Ordered a Bottle of 1989 wine from the list and 40 minutes later the wine was presented along with the waiter asking for our orders. 1st we saw him after the water and bread were supplied.

The wine was bad, at which time the Manager on duty informed us that wine was at our risk and there would be no substitute for it - he also informed us that the wine needed to breath more and it would be fine trust him. ( he also said he did not drink - after we offered him a glass to give us his opinion.) Chose another bottle off the list that was advertised as a 2000 - the bottle that was poured for us at the table was a 2005 for the same price. Not a good time needless to say. No appologies or excuses just very cold from the staff at Tio Pepe.

Those that were dining with us decided this would be the last time for Tio Pepe for our group and I have to agree. I would not recommend spending the 300-350 dollar dinner for 6 when there are so many really good choices in the Tampa Bay area.

Pros: Reservations were easy to make

Cons: Service and Management should have been working a drive thru!

Tio Pepe has wonderful food, stone crab claws were excellent and the prime rib is the best I have ever had. Just so you know when you go to Tio Pepe be expecting at least $50 a head. The food and service is great, they also have wonderful desserts just be aware at the per person cost. Oh, and great martini's!

Just went to Tio Pepe's this weekend for dinner. First, the rude hostess told us that we did not make a reservation, eventhough I pointed out our name on the dining list and the restaurant was almost empty. Taken to a table that was just plain, dirty, remains of food under the chair and something sticky on the tabletop. The meal arrived without delay, however, it was cold and the rice was overcooked. How a Spainish restaurant overcooks rice is hard to believe. Finally, we received a bill for four dinners, however, we only had to in our party. It took over 30 minutes just to get the check corrected! I could not recommend this restaurant to anyone!

Tio Pepe is one of my family's most favorite. A true landmark. A real Spanish restaurant. The service is great. The atmosphere is delightful. The food is marvelous. Prices are a little higher than average, but reasonable for what you get. Homemade sangria, fish in a bag and cuban coffee. Yum.

PROS: offers lunch menu, central Pinellas location

We thought this was a Mexican restaurant. We were surprised it was a Spanish restaurant. We didn't have reservations but got seated anyway. Our food was so delicious. I had the arroz con pollo, my husband had the beef tips. There was more than we could eat and the service was great. We're going there for our anniversary next week. I'm having the seafood next. A best kept secret. We got there early and there weren't many there. About 1 hour later the place was crowded. We were dressed casual but so were the majority. Some were dressed up. It didn't matter. Highly recommended.

You wait for a table surrounded by tacky fixtures in a room that has not been updated this millenium. You wait at a table that was purchased at a garage sale for a bottle of wine that comes after your appetizer and salad. You wait for your main course and it arrives cold. You wait for your check to be prepared and your waiter cannot be found. You wait to write a review so other dinners know to avoid this restaurant.

A recent dinner her confirms that after 29 years Tio Pepe"s can still deliver a great meal.

The filet, which they tell me is Iowa Beef, was tender and cooked as requested. and served on a hot sizzling platter. The onion rings and baked potato were done to prefection.

My wife had the stuffed pompano with saffron rice and was most delighted with the flavors and enjoyed the complete evening.

We were also impressed with the wide selection the wine cellar.

We continue to recommend Tio Pepe for a great evening out.

Drove up on Thursday night at 730pm, no one in the parking lot. That should be your 1st clue. Food was bad and the sign on the jukebox summed it up, "I may look good but I'm old and dont work, so dont touch me". I would expect to pay $8 for such a meal.

an AWFUL dining experience. Overpriced, supposedly upper class, and average food at best. The best advice I can give is if you are driving to Tio Pepe, keep going onto the Courtney Campbell and go to the Columbia, LaTropicana, etc. in Tampa...it is WELL worth the drive.

Find the food and service not worth the price. The salad was warm. One of the dishes were very salty. The rice was hard (undercooked).
