My children and I have been members of The YMCA for over 2 years now and enjoy it. We had a family membership at a more commercial gym but when I noticed that the environment was not beneficial for families ( in particular young girls), I decided to look elsewhere and found the YMCA. It is a christian environment that embraces all who want to benefit from exercise. It truly amazes me to see the different type of people who enjoy working out. I have seen blind people with their seeing eye dogs working out and it makes sense to me since they are always walking that they should be physically fit too. I have seen persons who have suffered the loss of a limb building their upper body strength and that has given me the courage and physical strength to say if they can do it so can I. There are many locations in various neighborhoods and once you become a member you can visit the others as well. If you cannot afford full membership you may apply for a scholarship. Just visit any of their locations and ask the front reception for an application. I truly appreciate the Y's mission statement and their goal that no one should be excluded because of their inability to pay for a full membership. I highly recommend the Y to any individual or family.

The Tampa Metropolitan YMCA has a Latch Key kid program. If your child has no supervision after school, you may want to contact the Tampa YMCA and ask for information. They have Latchkey Programs in over 35 schools. This is a wonderful idea and the Latch Key program includes homework help, snacks, arts and crafts, and outdoor playtime.
