Wilbert's is a small shack across from the UF law school. It's basically a convenience store which also carries law school text books. Wilbert's offers three things, none of which are worthwhile. First, there's outdoor seating available, so law students like to buy a beer and then sit outside and relax. However, the plastic outdoor seating is located right next to a pretty busy road, the seats and tables are filthy, cigarette butts litter the ground, and there are flies which circle the garbage clans next to where you sit. So maybe if you're a law student you think it's really "chic", but most adults will pass. Second, the store sells law books, and while they are definitely cheaper than the outrageously expensive on-campus bookstore, they're more expensive than what's online. Third, they sell convenience store items, nothing special: energy drinks, snacks, a few school supplies, packaged sandwiches, cigarettes, and beer. Again, it's cheaper than on-campus, but not cheaper than the Publix which is just down the street, and probably vastly more sanitary. Plus throw in that the local owners range from indifferent to flat-out rude. I'm not a big fan of Walmart, but after hanging out at this place my desire to protect small businesses just goes out the window. Pass.

We were in town with our son looking for a place to live in Gainesville near the law school. Steve and his wife were quintessentially helpful, kind, and most generous with their time. What a treasure this store is with delightful owners, personalized service, and true southern hospitality. We are so impressed with their warmth and authentic dedication to the law students. Kudos to Wilbert's.

I googled Wilbert's on a lark. I didn't even know they sold textbooks now. I lived at Wilbert's for 4 years through both the law and LLM program. Wilbert and Steve, who had the late shift then, were willing to cash checks, sell crappy coffee at 10 cents a cup, and the copiers always worked, unlike the ones in the law library.

Amanda P does not know the treasure she poorly rated

Wilbert's is a Gainesville institution. It's been interesting to watch Steve navigate the adversity much larger institutions keep throwing at him to come out ahead every time. I certainly hope the store outlasts me . . . I'd hate to think of the world without it.

I have never written a review before, but I could not let a 1 star rating of Wilbert's go unopposed. I cannot say enough good things about the place. The textbook prices are incredibly fair and the service is warm and helpful. Before each semester I look up book costs on Half.com and bring my list to Wilbert's to compare. Wilbert's prices are nearly always cheaper than the online prices, plus I can actually see the quality of the books and take them home immediately. Plus, Wilbert's doesn't cash your check until student loans are distributed. When I go in, the owner's even help me find the books I need, knowing that I'm only buying them if they are cheaper than the online price on my list. I don't know how anyone could possibly rate this establishment lower than 5 stars.

While booking shopping last semester we noticed the old fashioned Coca Cola bottles Wilbert's carries and thought they would be perfect for our upcoming wedding. The owner offered to immediately order additional cases and offered us a very generous discount. The store was packed the day we picked them up, so he told us to just take them home and come back to pay him another day so we wouldn't have to wait in line. This kind of trust and kindness is rare, but the owner's of Wilbert's genuinely care about their customers.

As a first year student I found that Wilbert's has been the most helpful. Their bundled books made my first semester a breeze. I came in, told them my section and my books were ready to go! I also received a 10% discount which the other bookstores in the area did not offer. Wilbert's has a great selection of course aids and study materials, and I find their prices to be cheaper on most books. I look forward to doing future business with them for the next three years.

This book store is right across from the law school, makes it easy for them to treat the students rudely, because they know they will get business anyway. Gator Textbooks is cheaper, offers better service, and will price match anyway. I will never return to this store. The female owner was rude to me once, I let it go, the second time I was in there, she was even more rude.
