Scan Haus

About two weeks ago, my son and I were in this store deciding on a leather couch for his sitting room. We were pressed for time, given that their sale was ending that evening, and we had rushed over after our Church meeting ended at 5 pm. I had researched the items the previous afternoon, so I felt that the decision was fairly simple.
We reviewed the items and I sat for a moment on a comfortable swivel chair. THE TIME WAS BARELY 6 PM. It was at this time that my son and I were approached by a sales person, whom I knew fairly well given that for the past twenty years I had furnished four bedroom suites, three offices and three sitting rooms/dens with furniture that was ALL purchased from THIS TALLAHASSEE store.
Calling me by name, she inquired rudely whether I realized that the 'STORE WAS CLOSED', and that it was time for me to leave. At first I thought that she was 'teasing', but it soon became evident that she was indeed serious, and quite perturbed. I apologized and stated that I was planning to purchase some items. She replied, that I should have done that earlier. As I started to walk out, she added , 'but if I wanted, I could purchase them now, since the sale was over.' This statement was followed by her reminder that, "If I was going to buy anything, I needed to do it now, because they (the employees) had other things to do' . I timidly replied that this was not necessary and I did not need to take any more of their time'.
As I walked away, I was shocked and befuddled, only noticing the angry look on my son's face. Once outside the store, he exclaimed " I can't believe that she talked to you like that. You should never go back in that store again".

I couldn't help but notice the time displayed on the dash of my car as I started the engine. It was just 6:04!

My 18 year old son clearly identified this disrespectful and abusive interaction. His assessment and recommendation are both correct and will be respected by me.

Despite my enjoyment of this furniture and the thousands of dollars(probably tens of thousands of dollars) that I have spent as a patron of this business, I will never again allow myself to support this establishment.

This decision is based on the principle that all people should be treated with integrity, respect and dignity.

Note that I plan to discuss this issue personally with the owners of scan haus at some point in the future. Writing this has helped clarify some of my thoughts in preparation for this meeting.

Scan Haus offers furniture that is a nice alternative to the boring and mundane. I furnished my entire home with their unique pieces and three years later everything still looks great. The staff is friendly and yes they are a little pricey. However, their pieces are unique and offer a nice alternative to the boring selections offered by other local furniture stores. If you enjoy overstuffed, floral prints then Scan Haus is not the place for you. They do not sell Lazy Boys. However, yuppie's have to furnish their homes too!

When looking for furniture to purchase, we visited Scan Haus looking for a new couch. We did not realize they only specialized in modern furniture that is poorly made and WAY overpriced. I'm surprised to find such a furniture store in town and was a waste of our time considering we needed more traditional everyday furniture. If you are looking for modern furniture that is poorly made, difficult to sit in, and very expensive... then this is the place for you. Otherwise, look into some of the better places in town like Turner's.

PROS: Good if you like modern, expensive furniture
CONS: Poorly made, very expensive, not typical of most homes

Unless you like very modern industrial type furniture I would not look here. It is very expensive and not even real wood. Everything is prefab and does not look like it would hold up very well with daily use.
