This is the worst food on the planet. The service was horrible and the food was disgusting. Save your money and your stomachs. The positive reviews on here must be from the rude and disrespectful owner. This cannot be called indian food. Greasy, unseasoned and deadly. Within 20 minutes of eating I was ill and had to vomit stay away

I was walking by shalimar, there was a gentlemen standing outside handing out coupons. I figure to try it out. The food was amazing, the decore was lovely and the music was nice touch. The owner, Perry, came out and to check was everything.

During a business trip to Orlando during May 2010, I had dinner two evenings at Shalimar. Both nights were terrific but especially the second evening.\r
\r
I enjoyed the Lamb Curry Shahi. It had boneless lamb with tasty spices. The Chef was kind enough to prepare a special Nan Bread which was not on the menu. He prepared it with ingredients per my request. This was nice.\r
Chris the waiter was first class. A nice person and very good at what he does. He made suggestions and had an in-depth knowledge of Indian Cuisine. I will visit again during my next trip to Orlando.

Pros: Food, Staff

.

Being that I love Indian food, I have to say that this place was not what I expected. My waiter seemed off, and did not communicate well. Kept interrupting my family and me while trying to eat, by asking personal questions. Stood at the table for long periods. We got our drinks refilled right before we were about to leave. When the receipt was brought back to me I noticed that they charged my credit card twice, and I told my waiter. He assured me that he stopped the transaction. I get home only to find out that he did not stop the transaction, I don't even live in Orlando!!! Hopefully I can get this problem resolved with a phone call, if not they are going to have a very angry woman coming through their front door!!!

Cons: Poor Communication-Poor Service

This is the worst restaurant I have ever ever been to !! I had visited orlando and wished that I could eat some great Indian food. So I thought about going to this restaurant which was nearby. From outside, it really seemed that I am entering some awesome place. But when I entered it was a nightmare !! \r
First of all there were Americans trying to serve Indian food in an Indian Restaurant !! The waiter who took the order didn't really understand what we were ordering. By the way, paneer kofta was 17.2$ out here and the waiter did not know what it meant !! Somehow we managed to explain want we wanted. Then we waited for 1/2 hour and he comes and tells us that he doesn't know when the food would arrive as there was only a single chef !! N the place was really overpriced. Then we continued to wait. We heard someone shouting at the waiter !! He ordered for paneer makhani and they served him something else !! Another group of people walked off telling us that this place is lousy, so are the waiters and the food !! We felt a sense of insecurity.\r
But we just like kept waiting as it was late and we were really hungry. But after an hour of waiting time, the waiter comes and tells us that our food was still being cooked. We told him that thank you. We are not interested and we walked out and ate at Pizza hut and got done in 15 mins!!\r
This place is lousy and terrible. I have never seen such awful service and such dissatisfied customers !! I am happy we didn't eat the food. I am sure they would have served us stale food and charged us like anything. Please do not enter !!\r

Went there last Sunday with my wife during our trip to Orlando.\r
We had this craving for Indian food, and unfortunately saw Shalimar on our way to shopping.\r
We decided to try their buffet. It was a regular buffet which one finds at almost all Indian restaurant (at least lookwise).\r
BUT....the taste was horrible. Dal was R O T T E N(literally)...it was smelling bad...we told the owner/manager about it and requested him to change it. He promised to do it and went inside and never saw him again. The mutton was an equally tough and smelly proposition. Tandoori and Chicken curry was so-so. \r
To top it, when the Bill arrived , we found that we had already been charged Service Charges for Buffet (though it was never mentioned anywhere).\r
On enquiring about the Manager, the waiter said that he had left.\r
After such a harrowing experience, we did not have any energy left to argue about anything.Paid the bill for one of thwe worst culinary experiences of our lives and walked off. We have taken a vow never to go to any other Indian restaurant for the rest of our stay.

The restaurant is horrible - complete waste of money. No taste of food, high price for the small portions - water is dripping from the ceiling. DO NOT GO THERE - There are lots of other options nearby - go for that.

I am the latest victim of this restaurant. On 29th Dec 2006 at 10:30pm (giving specific time so if they read they will know who am I) we were looking for some nice biryani and saw the advertosement of authentic indian/pakistani dishes so we went inside. wait for 15 minutes for service (only thing I like was cute lady on counter in white dress with evil smile). We look into menu and order for takeout but they insist to eat there hot dinner (definitely for 20% tip which was not specified anywhere ) so we order one tandoori chicken biryani for $15 and one tandoori chicken for $7.50and each naan for $2.50. Never heard before about tandoori chicken biryani so I ask the bengali old man and he told us we will put tandoori chicken in the biryani. anyways kids were so hungry so we ordered that. We got some khichri (rice with lentils) with some tadoori chicken on that so no biryani. anyways we did nt fuss cause kids were hungry (that is the benefit they take) anyways pathetic service but anyways we got the bill and they charge $7.50 tandoori checken as $15 when i ask they said that I should have tell them off hand that i want appetizer not the full meal. and on top of that they charge 20% service charge. These people are full cheaters and i have seen 4 other customers who has billing problems too. I do not understand why these people cheat because if they hire one good cook then difinitely business is there but i guess cheating is inside our genes.

DO NOT EAT AT SHALIMAR. THEY PRIDE THEMSELVES IN RIPPING OFF TOURISTS. THEY HAVE NO REPEAT BUSINESS EXCEPT FOR FAMILY. I had the opportunity to visit Shalimar today for lunch. It was a $9.95 buffet. I tried it because I purchased the yearly coupon book of orlando and I had a buy 1 get 1 lunch free. This was probably one of the worst experience I have ever had with a restaurant. First of all it's very messy for restaurant standards. The waiter is also the cashier, plus the chef and he is also the person that seats you. Second, they charge you 20% service charge on your bill for a TIP...even though it's a buffet. They charged for both buffet plus tax on the coupon and service charge the subtracted the $9.95. The Soda they give you comes from a 2 liter bottle and the water comes from the tap. The good news, this is not a tipical Indian restaurant. If you would like good indian food with good experience avoid Shalimar at all cost. Shalimar is an experience that you should take on during the latter part of your day because you will probably be inactive for the rest of the day. I do not usually take the time to write reviews on restaurants, but this is an experience that left me very embarassed because I am also of indian decent and this is not the quality of my people. Upon arrival to my office after lunch I threw the remainder of coupons in the garbage. If I can prevent or save one person from this experience It will be worth it. I will never visit Shalimar again nor will I ever recommend it to anyone else. If you do not believe this review, I challenge you to visit Shalimar and write your own review. Also just to let everyone know...the review with MKHAN Id is the owner. I looked it up.

Cons: THEY MUST BE PUT OUT OF BUSINESS!!

this restaurant is a shame in the name of serving indian food in Orlando. Since it is situated on a prime spot on Intl. drive, you are bound to notice it if you are in the vicinity. but beware! stay away from it. horrible service, the owner/cash register was double timing as the only waiter. no wonder, we got our drinks served right after we finished our meal. extremely pricey, $16 for a small portion of chicken curry with four pieces of chicken in it; burnt naans to go with that. and the final surprise came in the form of a mandatory 18% gratuity.

This is by far the worst restaurant ever. Do not go there. Their prices are horrendous, their food is disgusting and their restaurant is dirty. They actually charged $24 for two kabab rolls. Usually kabab rolls are $4 to $5 each. Theirs is $12. Unbelievable! And it tasted horrible. I repeat again, do not go back. If you want good indian food, there are other indian restaurants in orlando worth going to.

This restaurant is a joke. The decor is run-down. The service is horrible and minimal. We waited 20 minutes after being seated before someone came to take our order - another 25 minutes before our food arrivedcold. And this was when the restaurant was not busy! There were no refills for drinks. The food portion was ridiculously small, and the taste was almost as bad as their service. After the meal, we still had to wait almost 30 minutes to get the bills. The price is expensive. Two dinner entrees and two soft drinks came out to over $50! And here's the final kicker.. Tips are MANDATORY!! Despite the lack of service, the restaurant has an audacity to add an automatic 18% service charge to the bill no matter how many people are in your party.
