Camping Is on top of each other plus had to negotiate trees a foot either side of my 17 foot Chevy van, plus the smell was awful! I think their sewer Is in need to be emptied. Need code for bathrooms! site 19 looks into more than 1/2 doz sites! Only plus Is the river is there for kayaking :( My opinion is a total waste of money! $71.90 for two nights!!! As of Feb 2013.
Update... Left here and stayed at Manatee Springs State Park, Only a few hours up the road and such a nice clean park plus only $21 a night. Stephen Foster Culture Center State Park, another great place, both on the water.

For those who love the outdoors and appreciate the spring fed rivers of the Florida Gulf Coast, this is the best. Terrific kayaking trails abound. This place has full hook up RV sites and tent sites in separate areas. There are lots of trees and shade. The boat ramp on the Chassahowitzka River is about 800 ft from the the camping areas. There is a store and a deck with picnic tables next to it. There is a place to rent boats as well. The managers Dennis & Liz are friendly and helpful and informative. I will be back. I enjoyed my time there very much.

If you're looking for a Resort Campground stay away you will only find faults. What you??ll get is a woodsy, rustic, natural and maybe a little bit quirky place. The New Bath / Bathrooms were open when I was their in September. If you're laid back and can appreciate the local color and diverse visitors, go for it. I've stayed here many times and I love this place. I stayed once for 3 months and never had a problem however it's not the Four Seasons. If you hate those pesky campfires and want paved streets and golf carts, keep going down the road, this is not for you. Relax people life is short.......

We have been camping at the "Chazz" since we were little kids. My old man used to take us every year, (Mid October-Nov is perfect time Weather-wise). The campsites are pretty well kept. I take it the previous commenters are not expert campers The bathrooms are decent. But the River is definately what everyone loves. Great fishing, swimming. I will be bringing my kids here too hopefully. Dont forget to checkout the Springs!! Be careful !!!!

The river that the campground is named after is wonderful and our family enjoyed the whole day on the river. the campground is another story. The bath/shower house is being built, so you are forced to use portable showers and bathrooms which are awful and not maintained. The are also no garbage cans except for the main dump at the entrance campground, so the grounds are not clean. Check in took over an hour, the main office closed at 5 even on Friday nights when most folks check in. I would recommend spending the day on the river but not a night at the campground

I heard of chassahowitzka campgrounds from some friends that camped there once. they said it was a beautiful place to camp and the people were awsome. that was not my expierance. I got there late on a friday night and had to find the camp host to check in with. The camp host led me to a camping spot with full hook up when we already told him we wanted tent only with no utilities. He was confused and we could tell somthing was wrong, but we followed him to a camp site like we requested with the lady we talked to earlier that day. when we arrived at the site we talked to him a bit more and realized he had been drinking. Maybe ALOT. This man was driving a truck with yellow lights and county emblems on the doors. Later on that night there was some people being loud and we went to this camp host and couldnt wake him up,or he was not there. My husband had to try to calm the roudy campers down himself. neither one of us had a good expierance with the bathrooms either. my husband said there was profanity carved on the walls and I myself found one sink working correctly. The river was beautiful and we will go again. just not at this campground

All in all this campground is really nice, but I do have to say that our experience there was not so nice due to some immature campers next to our site. When the sun went down they turned into the drunk white trash that their parents are or were and fought for hours. It was hell with a young family. If this ever happens to you - I have learned my lesson just to go and get someone who works there so you don't have to suffer through what should be a relaxing night by the fire. They are required to handle it and if it doesn't handle, throw the trouble out. I will say that the sites are nice, the tree cover great and pretty. The river is pristine but really shallow... if you're paddling try to make it so that when you're paddling home the tide is coming in - fighting that current - although hilarious at times - can be real rough! Did I mention the staff are cool? The staff at this place are real good people!

I don't know what the previous reviewers problem is, but my family and I have been camping at this campground for the last 5 years, and we have never had a problem. It is a very basic campground - there's no pool or playground or cable or anything, but my kids love it there just the same. The people that work in the store are always very nice and smiling, the security people always are there if you have a question or need help with something, and the people that stay in the camground are usually very nice and respectful. If people play music too load or anything, the security has them turn it down. We were there with our kids this past Christmas for 4 nights, and there had to be over 100 people camping that weekend, and there was not one bit of trouble the whole time we were there.

The bathrooms have been redone and are now locked with a codebox. The kids can ride their bikes, campfires are allowed, and they still have boat rentals at the boatramp. I've recommended this campground to everyone I know, and

After reading several pleasant reviews, we booked a weekend at this camp site. When we arrived we found that our campsite was a mess, the picnic table was missing and there was broken glass around the area where we needed to setup our tent. After cleaning the glass away, and setting up our tent, it was up to my Fiance and I to carry a picnic table from 3 sites away, an empty site which had two picnic tables.

Once we had finally gotten our site setup, we headed to the restrooms to wash up. Their restrooms have doorlocks which require a key code to get in. I assume this is to keep everyone in the camp paying their rent. Ok, so not only were the restrooms disgusting, I mean it's a camp site, the expectations were very low, but when I went in, the air was thick and stale, and smelled of urine, but worse than you can probably imagine. This was the least of my worries, while washing up in the sink two grown men were getting out of the single shower . Now I don't think this was for efficiency, and while I hav

THIS PLACE IS JUST INCREDIBLE! WE'VE CAMPED THERE FOR YEARS. IT'S SO PEACEFUL AT TIMES, AND OTHER TIMES IT'S FULL OF ADVENTURE. I ALWAYS LOVE GOING CANOEING, EXPLORING THE RIVER AND SWIMMING IN THE SPRINGS. IT'S NICE TO CAMP WHEN IT'S A LITTLE CHILLY, YOU CAN SIT BY THE FIRE AT NIGHT AND TOAST MARSHMALLOWS AND TELL STORIES AND SING SONGS.

The Chassahowitzka River campground is a great place to enjoy the outdoors and camping. It is a very beautiful place to enjoy the great outdoors.

You can set up your tent and they also offer things like canoe and row boat rentals. You can do some fishing or just relax and enjoy the weather.

The prices are very reasonable and this is a great place to take your family.

Chassahowitzka campground is a wonderful place to spend time with family and friends! It is family oriented, is clean and well kept, the restrooms are always clean. Since it is located on the river, there are many things to do. We love canoeing, we use their rental canoes as we don't have any of our own. The river is a beautiful kind of shallow, slow moving river, it's great fun to explore as there are many small tributaries going to and from the main river. Also, my favorite part is swimming in the springs. Beautiful, cool, clear water bubbles up from these springs at a temperature of approximately 72 degrees year round.

PROS: great place to camp
