We have been going to Cross Creek since 2004, and the entire team is so caring and friendly. Dr. Hodge does an excellent job explaining any medical issues or concerns so you leave his office with a full understanding. The office stays up-to-date with technology and treatments. I really appreciate the teams follow-up and concern.

The staff was great with our dog Annie, as well as the three little girls with me that showed off their dance moves and sang every Frozen song. I did think the prices were pretty steep...we will see how it plays out. This was my first visit.

Dr. Hodge is really nice, but unfortunately nice doesn't help me. I have over two years of experience with this vet, and I think it's finally time to find another. I am a doctoral student, so needless to say, I don't have very much money. My cat has chronic cystitis, which is a lifelong problem that requires constant care. Though Dr. Hodge is the one who has diagnosed my cat with this problem, every time I go in he requires another full exam and urinalysis, just to find that my cat does not have a urinary blockage or an infection. So he gives me anti-anxiety medication for the stress and a supplement as a preventative. I can't get this medicine without all the needless tests. I walk away with hundreds of dollars more in debt on a care credit I took out to be able to afford the visits -- all to find out nothing we didn't already know. The medicine he prescribes usually works to break the cycle of pain and stress my cat experiences, but it's no long-term solution, and if I ever need a refill of the medicine, they require me to spend at least $200 on another visit and tests.

These visits stress my cat and don't tell me anything new. They say if I want to find out more I'd have to pay hundreds on xrays and whatnot, which I can't afford. Even if I could afford them, Dr. Hodge has specifically told me that he doesn't think there are stones, and his own cat has the same chronic problem, which is caused by stress. I decline because I can't afford other diagnostic tests and because I know that even if I could, I'd likely walk away with more debt and no solutions, based on my experience. The technicians give me these looks like I'm doing the wrong thing by my cat. Oh wait, let me make money appear out of thin air. I'm not ignorant or blindly stubborn. I'm not completely ruling out an underlying problem that other tests might bring to light, but because of my cat's history and the fact that this is a common problem in male cats, I'd wager that the primary diagnosis is correct, and what I really need is long-term support to manage a chronic, painful (but not life threatening) problem. I'm not letting my emotions get the best of me and just agreeing to more of what I don't need and can't afford. I'm looking for a practical solution and a caring veterinarian.

Long story short: Though I've spent thousands at this vet (I keep going back because they at least know my pet's history -- I don't know where else to go where they'd diagnose and treat him at an affordable price), I have never gotten to a resolution with my pet's sickness. By now, they should have gotten me on an affordable regimen that works. Just this morning, I called them to tell them I'm still having problems. Dr. Hodge wasn't in, and the technician said there was nothing they could do. She recommended the Animal Coalition. So if you're reading this and you can't afford this insanity, just do yourself a favor and go to one of these low cost places first. High cost does not necessarily translate into high quality. My cat is next to me with his belly flat on the ground because he is in pain, and they have turned me away. That is proof enough.

For the record, I'm not saying that Dr. Hodge doesn't care, but his system is set up so that it can't help people like me (people who don't have thousands to spend on vet bills).

Business Response:

Chronic pet disease are those that are the most difficult to manage and can be financial obstacles for some owners. I have tried to contact Lorraine to discuss the matter with her, but she had not replied. So I will comment here. Chronic cystitis (inflammation of the bladder) can have numerous causes and can be associated with complications such as infection, stones, masses or tumors, urinary tract blockage (which can be deadly) to name a few. Lorraine is correct that the only way I can determine that one of the complications isn't occurring is to test the pet. Each visit and presentation may SEEM the same, but until those complication factors are ruled out, we can't just call this inflammatory cystitis. As Lorraine would know, her cat has had a urinary blockage in the past. To just assume there is a bout of inflammatory cystitis could have cost him his life. That would not be providing the best care to the pet or the owner. I speak of firsthand knowledge as Lorraine has indicated as one of my own cats has had a history of inflammatory cystitis. Any yes, every time an episode would occur, she would get tested. To make a complete diagnosis of inflammatory cystitis is to rule out all other causes of the urinary tract disease as this is a diagnosis of exclusion. I can practice the best medicine available, but only with the owner's permission and responsibility. Lorraine has not given us those options. We have discussed at length why this cat may be having these episodes and what stressors may bring them on. Those are changes that the owner's need to make at home to reduce stress and anxiety, give supplements to promote good bladder health, feed special diets to improve urination and decrease sediment and bladder inflammation, etc. If those steps aren't taken, then these episodes will continue. These items as listed above are what is needed as the long term solution and they are not costly, but have to be performed. When Lorraine contacted our clinic because her cat was continuing to have issues and she couldn’t afford to bring the pet in for care, the Animal Coalition was recommended as a measure to provide medical care for those who have severe financial constraints. That is not meant as an insult to her or her cat, but an option based on repeated representations of her finances, in attempt to find a reasonable solution. I do not to see where we have failed in trying to direct her as her situation dictated. I care greatly about pets and all animals. I wouldn’t be in this profession if I didn’t. And, I’m glad that Lorraine feels I’m a nice person, because I try to be. I know she is in a rough spot with having a cat with chronic medical issues and having limited funds. I try to be as accommodating as I can, without sacrificing the proper medical care her cat (and all pets) deserves. I hope this is not interpreted as uncompassionate medicine when pet affordability is on case-by-case basis. Owning a pet is a long term commitment that one needs to be prepared for in good health and illness.

I have been bringing Bella, my basset hound, here since I moved to Tampa. Dr. Hodge and his staff have provided the very best in pet care that I have ever encountered. Bella is treated like one of their own, and Dr. Hodge always has time to fully explain his diagnosis and plan of care. Dr. Hodge and his staff show genuine compassion not only for the pet, but for the "pet parents" as well. When Bella was in for a three or four day stay due to pancreatitis, I received daily updates without fail, which is very reassuring, and knew that she was in the best of hands. As a result of her stay, Bella has bonded to one particular staff member and actually enjoys her visits there. I can't imagine bringing her anywhere else for veterinary care or kenneling. And to anyone complaining about the cost of a follow up visit, etc., quality pet care is not cheap, and discount vaccinations at a chain pet store do not constitute adequate care. Thank you, Dr. Hodge and staff, for always providing quality, compassionate care for my Bella.

To P.B. - REALLY?! You won't go see a vet because of a rebuttal to an inflamitory and insulting comment?! Have you read some of the comments for other animal hospitals? The negative ones are full of fabricated lies. I applaud Dr. Hodge for setting things right! Why shouldn't he offer some explaination. Doesn't he have the right to do that? Doesn't he have the right to defend his practice? Did you read his response? Read it again, carefully! The people writing the negative and inflammitory complaints are usually just angry people who are trying to spread their disease of anger! All they see is what was done TO them and rarely consider what their own part in the situation was! Every time we point the finger at someone else, there are three fingers pointing at us!
I have never been to Cross Creek AMC - though wouldn't think twice in bringing any one of my beloved pets there! I applaud Dr. Hodge for his candor!

I took my dog to Cross Creek Animal Medical Centre - for a followup visit. I was very surprised that they charged me again. They are not about the dogs but the money. Way over priced. I will not be taking my dogs there again nor will I recommend this facility.

I am sorry that Diana w. has had such an experience and welcome the opportunity to provide satisfaction for her concerns. Our hospital policy is and has always been to provide for the best in pet care and client services. Follow-up visits are necessary for optimal patient care, and yes, to maintain our level of services and technology, fee's must be applied. We are all about the dogs, and cats, and any other creature that come through our door, with caring owner's seeking to make their sick pets well and keep their well pets in that condition. Again, if Diana w. would be willing to contact me and we can discuss this matter, I'm sure we can reconcile her concerns and again, provide her dogs with great care and elicit her recommendations. I can't thank you enough!!!!!!! Mojo is so much fun since he's been loosing weight! I knew he was when he started stealing my slippers like he did when he was a puppy! I smile every time I see them dragged out of the closet and elsewhere in the house! I feel like I have my baby back! He's even playing more and I swear he's listening better. It's so wonderful! You guys are the best . . .

Love this place. They are very caring and very helpful. As to the person that had an issue with the groomer, I believe that the groomer is actually a separate business (Fins & Fur) if memory serves me. I've been taking my pets here since move to Tampa in 2004 and have never been disappointed. It can be a bit pricier than other vets, but it's worth it to me and my pets.

Btw, my dog can be pretty unruly too, but the groomer has never had a problem with her. Anyhow, that's just my two cents.

I've taken my cat to Cross Creek Animal Medical Center for over 6 years now, and they're easily the best vet facility around, with Dr. Hodge being the best vet in Tampa Bay! My cat had a rare parasite that the first vet we took the cat to missed. Dr. Hodge took the time and researched the parasite and was able to effectively treat my cat immediately. I credit Dr. Hodge with saving my cat's life and thus, my cat has been healthy for 6 years and counting! Dr. Hodge not only cares for animals like no one else, he also cares for the pet parents, being exceptionally informative and supportive!

Just like any expectant parent we were both excited and nervous awaiting the arrival of our Old English Mastiff puppy. Both my husband and myself are medical professionals (for humans). We did our research, leaving nothing to chance with our new family addition. Dr. Hodge and the staff provide care that can only be considered as excellent. Our little guy is treated just as if he was one of their own. He actually looks forward to going to see Dr. Hodge and the staff (I can't say that I feel the same about my doctor). We are very pleased and do recommend CCAMC highly.

Simply the most caring and helpful animal medical center I've ever dealt with. I can call with concerns and rest assured that the Dr. will be given my question - and within a day I'll hear back with an answer/recommendation. Dr. Tim has done both my dogs' spay/neuter, as well as dew claw removal surgery and anal gland removal surgery. On all the surgeries, Dr. Tim has done a great job, and his staff is excellent at keeping you informed during surgery/recovery. My dogs love seeing Dr. Tim, it's almost like he's their surrogate owner - he treats them as if they were his own.

I have been taking my dogs to CCAMC for years. Dr Hodge and his staff are exceptional. Caring, knowledgeable, fun, informed, erudite - - just a few of the adjectives I use to describe them to my friends and neighbors. They have become part of my extended family.
Totally awesome.

I was considering going to CCAMC until I read this page. Tim H. convinced me to try a different vet. If a person cannot leave a negative comment without being personally attacked, I do not feel comfortable going there. I come here for honest feedback. Stop being defensive and you will have better luck finding new customers. I will keep looking.

Search no more... I thank P.B for their comment and taking the time provide a review. My reply to previous reviews was not meant to be a personal attack or show defensiveness, but to provide both sides of the story. As with any type of media, stories can be skewed to one side, thus not allowing one to make an informed decision. My comments are simply what you request, "honest feedback". Insider Pages provides for just this type of exchange, so that other consumers can be well informed. I ask that P.B. come to our office, take a tour, meet the staff and myself, then decide for yourself. Tim H.

My 2 labs have been going to Cross Creek Medical Centre for many years and they have always been given the greatest of medical care. The practice is unbelievably thorough, complete, and unprecedented medical care. The grooming staff is excellent and will treat your pet as their own. I can highly recommend this fully competent veterenarian and staff as they are knowledgeable and thorough for all your pets needs. They are tops in their field and your pet will be taken care of with the utmost of care. If you want your pets to live a long and happy life please seek out proper medical care as I did and experience a great doctor/client experience at Cross Creek. I love knowing my pets are well taken care of can be treated like the beautiful babies they are.
Thanks, Alecia C.

I have brought both my cat and my dog to this vet and have had excellent service every time. Sometimes the service is a bit expensive, but the quality is well worth it. They send us check ups anytime the animals are needing a routine shot or a test!

The staff is very friendly, and great with animals! The location is always very clean!

I absolutely love taking my puppy to Cross Creek. The staff is wonderful and they make going to the vet a really nice experience. My great dane puppy actually loves going in for his appointments. I think it's because the staff is so warm and friendly and it's apparent that they truly value you and your pets. The center is very clean, and he receives excellent medical care. The center also sends cute little email reminders when it's time to give medications.I also appreciated the way the staff followed up after he received his vaccinations, to make sure he didn't have any kind of reaction. I recommend it to every pet owner I know. I would especially recommend it to people who own Great Danes. One of the vets on staff (who is usually there Weds) owns a few and has great first hand knowledge of the breed. He's definitely offered some great advice on issues that are specific to Danes.

This person isn't giving the full information. The pet
came in and was so matted that the skin had sores from the matts. The fur around the genital was so tight that the pet was urinating on itself. The dog has a severe ear infection, dental disease and hadn't been taken care of. The groomer tried her best to groom the pet, but had to shave the fur down very close due to all the matting. The pet was very uncomfortable due to the matting and skin sores caused by the matting that the dog had to be sedated. The groomer tried to take time with the pet so as not to cause the pet to be upset. The grooming was stared right after the pet came in, but due to the difficutly of the matting, much more time was taken. The pet was not allowed to go home until the sedation had worn off. This person is a horrible pet owner and shouldn't be allowed to have pets. The owner paid full price, but was given a discount by the groomer because she felt so sorry for the poor dog. In reality, she should have been charged more for all the extra time taken. If the owner felt the dog looked ridiculous, then she should have taken better care of the dog to begin with and not blame the groomer or this hosptial for the horrible state she had allowed the pet to get into.

PROS: Excellent hospital, wonderful service, great staff, state of the art

I took my dog to Cross Creek Animal Medical Center one time to be groomed. I thought the cost was a little pricey, but the location was perfect. I dropped off my dog at 8:00 am per my appointment time. At 3:00 pm I contacted them to check the status and they still had not started on him. Finally at 4:00 pm they called me to let me know that my dog was being difficult and they were not able to complete the grooming. Upon arriving they presented me with a dog that looked ridiculous. I told them that the problem was most likely that my dog sat in a cage for almost 8 hours before they started working on him. Most upsetting, they demanded that I pay full price for the "lack" of sevice I received. I do not recommend them.

PROS: Great location
CONS: Terrible customer service

I took my dog to Cross Creek Animal Medical Center one time to be groomed. I thought the cost was a little pricey, but the location was perfect. I dropped off my dog at 8:00 am per my appointment time. At 3:00 pm I contacted them to check the status and they still had not started on him.
