I've just had the most disappointing experience at the Gwinnett Clinic in Lawrenceville. I think the Doctor is Good...but the front of the house staff goes out of the way to create a bad experience.I have an injury suffered from being thrown from a Horse. I went to the Emergency Room and they referred me to the Gwinnett Clinic for follow up. I arrived at my Appointment on time with a very swollen leg - damage to my knee. It was painful to be up even on crutches - The staff at the window seemed to be a problem from the beginning. I was met with hostility as she told me my insurance could not be verified. My paper work was shredded. I called my insurance company from the lobby and handed the phone to the receptionist and they confirmed my insurance. I had to fill all the paper work out again and waited over one hour to see the Doctor. The Doctor was great..right down to business..he order a MRI to get a clear picture of the damage. He drained fluid from my knee to help with comfort and gave me a prescription for pain. He also recommended a better knee brace and explained that the swelling needed to go down before any surgery etc - and he set another appt for one week. I got the MRI on Wed. and additional MRI on Mon was requested. this was also a pleasant experience. I came early for my appointment and was met by that not so pleasant receptionist again .. Who stated that I had to pay an outstanding bill from 5 years ago..in the amount of 920.00 or I would not be able to see the doctor. I explained to her that I was covered by insurance at that time and she said I didn't fill out the secondary insurance information. What! I would be laughing - if I wasn't in so much pain. So because I wasn't willing to pay a bill that was covered by insurance - I was refused service - even though the MRI had already been done. I'm back in bed at home - I'm sure it will get worked out, but I still can't believe the coldness and lack of concern for my well fare as a patient in pain and needing the care from the Doctor with whom I had an appointment with. What can you do?

Some of the doctors and staff are good and caring. However, there's almost always a problem getting a call back or getting them to talk with the insurance company to resolve an issue. They are good for basic care, but do your homework! Know something about what is wrong with you and what questions to ask. Otherwise you may get wrong info. I had positive results on a test for a disease that no one wants to have. It practically ruined my life before I found out through my own investigation that this test could be WRONG. No one at the clinic ever suggested that another test is generally recommended to confirm the diagnosis. As it turned out, I had nothing wrong with me. My family is still recovering from that trauma.

PROS: Some of them care about their patients
CONS: Poor back office response
