Applied on marketplace in Dec of 2013 for Insurance from 2 separate companies, one for medical and BCBS for dental. Within weeks I received information from my medical insurance, which I paid for. I never received anything from BCBS. I assumed that because I never received anything that they didn't get my application or I would get info in April because the deadline was set back. I finally received information from them (a welcome packet, bill, and my BCBS dental card) in April. I paid my premium in May. After paying my premium I received a bill for $216.XX. I called BCBS to find out why I was being billed that amount. I was told that it was everything I owed them from Jan until present for coverage. I explained the situation only to have them tell me that they couldn't change the date on my insurance and I told them I wanted to cancel. Then I got a notice that said that my insurance had been canceled Feb 1, 2014. I called to request a refund for the amount that I paid. The insurance was cancelled before I had ever paid it and the whole thing is a mistake with their system. I was told by a CSR that I should have never been allowed to pay for the insurance and that I should expect a refund check in 7 - 10 business days. That was July 21st. The lady gave me a reference number, her name, and her employee ID number. Today Sept 3rd, 2014 I called to find out where my refund was. I was told that the CSR should have never told me that I would be getting a refund and that the money I paid in May went to my Jan 2014 bill and that's why I got a letter saying I was canceled in Feb for non-payment, which does not make any sense what so ever. After spending at least 4 hrs on the phone over a course of 3 months, I am being told I am not getting a refund and that I could appeal it if i wanted. So I paid for insurance I never had and BCBS is trying to keep my money and some how pinning their system errors on me. BCBS is a NIGHTMARE!

I chose BCBS of GA as my medicare advantage PPO plan effective this year and I have had nothing but problems with BC. These problems span misinformation, failure to communicate and finally, failure to respond to my problems as sent by way of certified mail.

The misinformation I receive is through their internet site as well as their live agents. I have been misquoted out pocket costs repeatedly thus making it impossible to adequately plan for my healthcare. For example the internet link which compares costs based on my plan quoted $0.00 for an MRI. A live agent then told me it would cost $40. Finally scheduled for the MRI and I am told it will cost $275.00 Similarly the internet link quoted a $0 co-pay for a critical medication. I went to pick it up and the pharmacist asked for $189.00 I am a disabled person and I suffer from a myriad of medical problems and therefore, planning for my healthcare costs is critical to my health.

My letter to their VP of Operations (Doris Anderson) has fallen on deaf ears. Recently I have sent this information to the insurance commissioner of GA and they have indicated that they will investigate these problems on my behalf.

Just spoke with Lillie Monford insurance agent with BCBSGA for individual coverage. She went out of her way to make sure that I understood the plan. Look forward to working with her again in the future.

My back went out on Jan 29, 2010. After much agony, I went to the hospital emergency room. Got a shot o vicodin and and xray. On monday, went the Pain Manangement therepist. At 11 a.m., he requested a MRI. It was scheduled for Feb 4. By 2 p.m, BCBS had denied this a pre-existing condition. it was not. I have been going through the appeals process for 15 days. I was told It could take another 10 business days. In the meantime I am missing work. Can't get treatment because it is not life threatening and I can't afford to pay.
Hey Congress this is the great American Healthcard system that I have been hearing about.

I am asking myself what benefit, if any, I get out of paying a monthly premium of ~90 for an individual PPPo with BCBSGA. Here are my complaints:

1. It seems that BCBS simply assumes that anything you receive treatment for is a preexisting condition, which therefore will not be covered. There is an "appeal" process which consists of you sending them a letter disagreeing with their ruling, but oddly enough BCBSGA representatives will not tell WHY they decided your condition was preexisting (which makes it fairly difficult to appeal the decision).

2. I had two doctors recommended to me when I arrived to Atlanta. Both are considered to be excellent general practitioners. Guess what? They are both out of network! So I suppose that I will just have to pick some random doctor if I ever decide to get a physical.

3. The specifics of the policy are subtly designed in a way that BCBS pays for almost nothing. For instance, you have to (under the Blue Value $3,500 plan) spend $450 on prescription medicine before any of your Rx benefits kick in. So, if you consider that and the fact that you are paying nearly $100 a month for coverage, you might as well not have the coverage at all. Actually, it is MORE expensive to have coverage.

My conclusion is that unless you have access to a group policy through school or work, do not get BCBS (unless you plan on never going to the doctor and don't take any prescription drugs). Get an emergency coverage health care plan from Assurant or somebody else.

If anyone knows of a PPPo that actually does save you any money, please let me know, I would be much obliged.

PROS:
CONS: eager to not cover claims, preferred docs out of network, meager benefits

My husband and I had Blue Cross Blue Shield for our insurance before and I was pregnant that time so my husband inquired about how much we will gonna pay for me to have the baby and they said that it will gonna be like 5000!! I think that was crazy. fortunately, my husband switched a job and with his new insurance, we ended up paying $100 for everything.

I don't know about their group plans because my husband and I are self-employed. So we have to buy individual policies, because believe it or not it is cheaper than a family policy. But anyway every year they raise the premium. My son's policy started at 49.00 now it's 99.00 per month for a five year old. So I found out about what's called a rollback, it is like starting over with the pre-ext. clause but your rates stay lower and now they say that your rates still will go up just not as much. Blue Cross is just a rip off.
