Hey UBF Friends... I moved out San Francisco and joined a 24 Hour Fitness because there is one by my house and one by the office - but it is no where near what UBF and UBS offer. I sure do miss the gym and my trainer in ATL tremendously.

Yesterday the power went out at my office and I was able to leave and check out Urban body since my co-workers go there. One of the managers, Stephanie, showed me around and gave me details about joining. They will waive the sign up fee and you can also get classes next door at the Studio! I don't take Pilates or yoga but my girlfriend does. Definitely great staff and a relaxed environment!

Pros: Example: best croissants in town

Cons: What are the drawbacks?

When I go to a gym, I'm looking for two things, appropriate, quality equipment, and a clean, inviting environment. Urban Body provides both. This is a neighborhood gym, not a massive, flashy gym. If you need all the bells and whistles, seek elsewhere. The staff has always been up to par ? if you have a question, they can answer it, otherwise, they?ll leave you alone. Urban Body was immensely crowded, just like every other gym, at the beginning of this year, but now that the New Years Resolution crowd is starting to dissipate, things are thinning out. Urban Body is a tad overpriced, in my opinion. There is a ?boot camp? course in which the entire class jogs around the building. I am not sure why this is necessary but it is incredibly annoying ? the gym is not big enough for 15 people to do walking lunges or sprints. All in all, the good outweighs the bad, and I would highly recommend this gym to those looking for a local place to join..

Pros: parking, sometimes crowded, class interference

Cons: good equipment, variety of equipment, cleanliness

For a gym that charges about $500 a year for a membership, UBF is sorely lacking in amenites - basically offering a few racks of weights, a few wellworn machines, the usual handful of tired classes , limited hours, no steam/sauna, etc. It's basically a two story concrete space with weights upstairs and an overcrowded cardio space and teeny class studio space downstairs. . And customer service is the WORST, the female manager acts like she's too good to work at a gym. And forget about finding desk people at night - they're off doing side work like cleaning the place, Go elsewhere - you can do so much better for the $$$.

I can't believe the male dominated attitude that exists at this gym! If you are a guy you get all kinds of attention but for the female customers you can forget it. Totally sexist.

Joined for one month and already turned in my cancellation. The gym is in an older building that is constantly being repaired. Seems everyday something is blocked off and unusable because it's broken or leaking. I wanted to speak to a manager about my billing on the weekend and there are no managers on the weekends! Must be nice to have that job. Yes, I was told I could email but what happened to one on one customer service. The parking is a DISASTER. Just sorry I joined in the first place.

I have been a member of Urban Body Fitness for 3.5 years now. In the past year, I have grown to hate this place and am thinking of leaving. The owners do not care about the clients. The parking lot is horrible. It's hardly paved. In the evenings, you can barely find a park. We've had to leave and miss our work out because there was no place to park. They are out of towels constantly. Equipment is broken a lot. Most people who go there are not courteous to everyone around them. They'll stand around and have conversations while on machines...making the rest of us wait. The boot camp class is constantly running through all the walkways and stairway in the gym causing a truly hazardous situation for us all. There just isn't enough space for that! Every time I go there I get severely angry. The gym is supposed to be a place I go to relieve stress, not gain stress.

Pros: it's not a national chain

Cons: parking, crowd, poor management, rude members

.

The equipment has been upgraded in the cardio room, which is a big plus! On the downside, the TV's are too small and not positioned well. There is often a wait for the machines at peak times. I like how the gym is divided into area's for what you are targeting. A negative is some of the staff, especially the short girl that never stops talking about nothing.

I only have time to workout on the weekends and I can say that I don't find urban body very clean, as some other post said. The woman's locker room is not well taken care of and forget about finding a manager on the weekends. How can a place operate without anyone in charge? The staff are okay but have been much better in the past. One Friday evening I came in to find the employee eating her dinner at the counter. Now, I know everyone needs to eat but there were two employees working - couldn't she take a break? This gym charges about $20 more a month than others and that is not worth a clean towel every now and then.

I have tried Urban Body Fitness. I liked it. It is very clean and nobody else has towel service (I hate taking my own sweaty smelly towels home).

Parking seems to be the big complaint on here. Yes, they need more parking. I was told by Brad (or maybe it was Rad) who is one of the owners, that they are waiting on permission from the City to expand the parking behind the buildings to the next street. I looked...that is a LOT of extra space. He said his plan is to have it ready by the end of February. Guess you can't rush the City.

I also took a tour of the building next door where they do the Yoga and Pilates. I have done both in the past. Definitely a more modern building. Kinda quiet and peaceful.

While I didn't join a gym for personality it has to have some role especially if you go everyday. The staff I've encountered are not attentive and usually not around or busy talking amoung themselves. The gym is too packed after 5 pm and I agree with other posts - the parking is not worth the trouble. The recently added space isn't even paved and has huge ruts when it rains.

I've been a member for the past year and this is the best gym I've seen in this city. I came from Chicago (which has plethora of boutique style gyms) and Urban Body is hands down the best I've seen around! The staff are quite entertaining at times, and are always helpful and pleasant. The equipment is clean and I've never had to wait. I live close by so I walk to the gym most of the time and I've heard complaints about parking, but hey, that's city life...get over it! Two thumbs up. Check it out..

Cons: Not open 24 hours

I have been a member at Urban Body for 6 years and I have never been disappointed by it. You are always greeted by name by the staff, I don't know how they manage to remember so many people. They are always friendly and upbeat. The space is always so clean and you see the staff constantly wiping down the machines, it is a refreshing change in approach to fitness. Add in the popular spin and fitness classes and the wide assortment of weights and cardio equipment and you have to look no further for the perfect gym.

I have 3 health club memberships ( 2 free memberships through my work) and Urban Body Fitness health club. I have been a member of all 3 for years and the only one I ever use and would never give up is Urban Body. Urban Body (the health club not to be confused with the Yoga and Pilates Studio Center next door) is always clean, has the best trainers and they are always updating the equipment (they just got all new cardio 6 months ago). Not to mention James Boot Camp Class is the Best in Atlanta. Parking is crowded, but so is every single gym I have ever belonged to my entire life between 5 - 7 pm. I get my hair cut with Jennette and I get the best massage with Will next door at Urban Body Studios. It is the only place in town where I can take care of all three things in my life in one fell swoop. If you are savvy and smart you wouldn't belong anywhere else.

Pros: Best Trainers, All New Cardio 6 Mos Ago, Friendliest Staff

Cons: Need More Parking, but my other big chain gym does too.

Urban Body used to be a great place to work out. But, since the owners opened the yoga place next to the gym the place has suffered. Equipment always breaking, poorly staffed and with the addition of the yoga place there is never any parking. I left this month to join another gym. You can try Urban Body but you'll see the cons out weight the pros.

Been a member for a couple of years and I can say that the staffing issue has gone down hill over this time. When I first joined, there was always two people at the desk to help customers. Now, you're lucky to find anyone. I asked my trainer and he said the owners are cutting way back cause they are losing too much money. Huh? How can you charge the price they do for monthly memberships and not have any money to pay staff? If you go in the morning you can work out on any machine. If you come in the evening forget it - and forget finding a place to park. I spent 30 minutes the other evening looking for a spot. I gave up and went home. Switching to another gym this week and can't wait.

Did the trial and hated this gym and the pilates building. NO parking, and when you do complain about anything, the managers/owners are downright rude. Worst gym I"ve ever been to. There is NEVER any staff to help you. I've heard that the owners are too cheap to pay for adequate staff.

I love Urban Body Fitness. I have been a member for close to two years. I am getting married in a month and when my future husband and I were deciding where to live, the hardest part about thinking about going somewhere other than the Highlands area was not being able to work out there anymore. Thankfully, we found a place in the Highlands and I will be able to keep my gym and my trainer! I have been an "on again, off again" exerciser for a long time, and UBF is the first place I've found and stuck with. I've gotten to know so many people at the gym, it's sort of an accountability thing. People notice when you're not there. I train with Michael Hobson, who is so positive and has become such a good friend, but all of their trainers are excellent. I also enjoy taking the kickboxing classes, bootcamp classes and the step/sculpt classes (when I can actually get home in time... they fill up quickly). The gym certainly isn't perfect, but as long as I'm in this area of Atlanta, I wouldn't go anywhere else.

If you compared this gym to other gyms without considering price, it's great. But the gym has several issues that need to be fixed in order to make it tops....and justify the high membership fee. 1) The temperature and humidity levels are rarely comfortable. 2) Equipment is often broken for long periods of time. 3) Music levels are very inconsistent. Sometimes it's really loud...other times you can't hear it. 4) Parking is terrible during peak hours....and since most of the parking lot is not paved, the lot is a mess when wet. There are definitely solid good points...the gym is generally pretty clean and hand sanitizer is always available throughout the gym. The staff is friendly. Towel service is free. Overall, it's a good gym....but it attempts to play in the league with other high end gyms such as Equinox....and it can't compete. Particularly, if you compare the gym to the yoga studio next door, the gym falters badly.

Urban Body Fitness has been a good, solid place to exercise -- sufficient equipment, very clean, relaxed atmosphere. However, be careful -- they recently stopped offering yoga classes, so you must pay extra to take yoga at the Studios next door. Sort of a scam, really. I have liked UBF because I want what the gym offers, but liked the "basic" yoga classes that were offered -- so now your class options are really limited. If you want to take an occasional "yoga" or "pilates" mat class as part of your fitness experience, then look elsewhere. If you don't care about that, I would recommend as a basic gym.

I'm been a member of both LA Fitness and Golds since I first moved to Atlanta and neither is as inviting as Urban Body. I go in the morning and the desk people know my name and I've never had a problem getting a towel. They are everywhere. The gym and locker rooms are super clean. I love that I get my haircut and massages right next door. The trainers there are also really helpful even if they are not scheduled to help you. I know that there are some mixed reviews, but I think most people would agree that Urban Body is the best gym in our part of town.

I have to be honest!!! I have worked out @ this gym for over 5yrs. I have been a member evrywhere prior. In gyms all over the world. I couldnt imagine not having Urban Body in my life. Comfortable, professional, CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN!!!! I cant say enough good things about this place. Great location just off the beaten path and an extreemly welcoming environment. The most attractive and appeasing staff ive encountered in any buisness, really! The trainers range from backgrounds such as pro-fighters and marines to experienced yoga masters that actually trained in India!!! By the way these trainers are so versatile anyone could find a personality to match themselves. I've trained with a few of them myself. A little insiders tip.... I worked with MICHAEL HOBSON for over a year and have never seen results in my life as fast as i did with him. He had a very positive attitude and i found myself having trouble sleeping the night before, just because he made me so excited about getting back in shape. This gym is amazing and i cant thank them enough!!!! Thanx URBAN BODY for truly being BETTER THAN ALL THE REST!!!!

As a person who has bounced around from gym to gym in Atlanta, Urban Body Fitness is undoubtedly the best gym in town. I was surfing the net to find a personal trainer and came across their information. I went to the gym and met one of their personal trainers, Drew Dinwiddie (you can find him on their website) and I have been there ever since. Drew is the best trainer I have worked with and he will get you to where you need to be, provided you follow his advice!!! I have dropped twenty pounds and gained substantial mass while going to him. He has also helped me drop my distance running time by 10 minutes and shorter running distances by even more! He is an amazing trainer and many of the other trainers are great as well.

The gym is extremely clean and they offer free towels, locks and personal accounts so you can charge water, protein shakes, etc. to your account without worrying about carrying your wallet into the gym. The equipment is always in excellent working order and there are plenty of machines to use. All of the staff members are great as well. The manager knows you by name and will talk to you when he is in the gym. There is always a smiling face when you walk into the gym.

I would say this is the best gym in Atlanta and by far, it has the best trainers. I would recommend this gym to everyone!

The manager knows you by name and will talk to you when he is in the gym. There is always a smiling face when you walk into the gym.

I would say this is the best gym in Atlanta and by far, it has the best trainers. I would recommend this gym to everyone!

Pros: Trainers, equipment, staff

Cons: No pool or sauna

.

If you want to join a gym to actually WORKOUT and not just to chit-chat or find dates, this is your gym! UBF is truly dedicated to their members' fitness, proven by thequality equipment, trainers, staff, and classes! I happily converted from a large gym chain over a year ago and never looked back! Members at UBF all seem to share a common interest and goal... personal fitness.

Pros: Internet, free towel & locker, SUPER clean, "boutique" feel, great equipment & staff

excellent facility! I worked out for a short period of time at L.A. Fitness when I first moved up to Atlanta. It was very impersonal and way to "corporate" for my taste. The Urban Body Fitness staff and trainers have all been so genuinely nice and friendly! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone!

I joined Urban Body Fitness in 2005 and I have been nothing but thrilled with it! The staff is warm and helpful (many of them even greet me by name when I come in to work out), there are small and big towels for working out and showering, and plenty of machines, weights, and classes to keep things interesting. The best thing about it is the comfortable, friendly, neighborhood feel of the club. It really is a place I look forward to going. So far, I've gotten 3 of my friends to join and I encourage eveyone I know who is trying to live a healthier more active lifstyle to visit Uban Body Fitness!

For a gym that charges about $500 a year for a membership, UBF is sorely lacking in amenites - basically offering a few racks of weights, a few wellworn machines, the usual handful of tired classes (lots of beginning yoga and cardio kick!), limited hours (they just cut back their weeknight hrs to 10pm), no steam/sauna, etc. It's basically a two story concrete space with weights upstairs and a tiny cardio space and teeny class studio space downstairs. The rest of the space is used to try to make more money off you by shilling their massage, haircut, and trainer svcs for extra $$. And customer service is the WORST, no one is ever at the upstairs reception desk, requiring you to check in downstairs. And forget about finding desk people at night - they're off doing side work like cleaning the place so they can leave early after a couple of hrs of standing idly by. Go elsewhere - you can do so much better for the $$$.

PROS: location
CONS: really substandard customer service, severely limited amenities

A home away from home I know is trite, but I can't imagine belonging to any other gym in the city and were I to ever move away, there would be a terrible void. EVERYONE is so genuinely kind; they know my name, they mainain an excellent facitiliy and they are ALWAYS open for suggestions. They give back to the community and are very far-sighted in thier approach. A sophisticated atomosphere yet down to earth. THE BEST!

I have been a member of UBF since they opened. I have moved farther away from the gym since then, but I still workout there because it is an absolutely wonderful gym experience. The staff is accommodating, the equipment top-notch, the classes varied, and the place is CLEAN. Mostly I appreciate the atmosphere - there is no 'high pressure' sales pitches or abusive membership contracts. The massive expansion into the adjacent building will only improve an already outstanding experience.

I have to say that Urban Body Fitness has been a great experience for me. The staff makes my experience here so much better, they are very attentive to my needs and know me by name when I come in. The classes are amazing and they offer so many different types. I have been a member for the last three years and have watched it improve each year. They also offer other services like chiropractic and massage therapy, so for me it's everything I need all in one convenient place. This place ROCKS!!!

Of the several gyms in the midtown area, I find Urban Body Fitness most closely meets my needs. The space is aesthetically appealing and impeccably clean. The staff is courteous and helpful, and they make it a point to acknowledge and greet members by name upon arrival. This is a personal touch I have not found elsewhere. The equipment is modern and well maintained. There is a wide assortment of yoga, pilates, spin, and other types of classes offered with friendly and knowledgable instructors. They also offer massage, hair care, and chiropractic services on site. They maintain a very slic and informative web site and send me montly newsletters that keep me up to speed on class schedules and other services offered. I also enjoy the member appreciation parties that they hold periodically. Urban Body Fitness also "gives back" to the community by regularly donating services to various charitible organizations.

What is most impressive about Urban Body (UBF) is the constant attention to details and creating a positive/clean environment for working out. It truly is a club (not a gym), where the attentive staff, flexible hours and convenient location allow members to feel appreciated. Something I never found at some of the bigger outfits in town.

Based on what I read here, I spent an afternoon trying to work out at Urban Body Fitness and I was greatly disappointed. I found the staff vague and distant. No one spoke, even when directly asked a question. Perhaps it was just a bad day. Otherwise, the place smelled strange, it was packed to the rafters and even the parking lot was crammed. It was uncomfortable in more ways than one. They also need to place more cleaning solution around in order to wipe down the machines. The one I got on was soaking wet with sweat.

This is a great gym.
Well maintained, neat and clean, plus the staff and management are very friendly.

I also like that it is sort of divided up so that you are not looking at each other while you work out.

Awesome place. VERY clean, great-friendly staff, and all the equipment I could want. They are always upgrading something. They furnish my towels, mouthwash, Q-tips, shampoo, body wash.....

They have over 40 classes EVERY WEEK!! and they are ALL included. Yoga, Pilates, abs (they call them core classes), Spin, and those damn body sculpting...

UBF has grown over the last few years into the perfect health club with an ultra-clean facility, friendly staff, up-to-date and working machines, award winning, knowledgeable fitness trainers, and a variety of other services that seem to increase daily. I have been to the "cookie-cutter" gyms and UBF is NOT one of those. I highly recommend UBF.

I find the staff at this gym the most professionel, helpful and non-intimidating. They are friendly and make you feel welcome and don't judge you if you are not the best body on the floor. They have helped me reach a goal I did not think I could reach at fifty!

The training is innovative and interesting and it is fun as well as good for my body. I look forward to my sessions as much as going out to a social engagement.

The very best!

UBF and UBS' success is due to more than the location. And, rather than worry about how much the owners may or may not make as the reviewer named catlas seems to do, realize that the reason they rent out the space is to offer even more amenities in one location. Cleanliness has never been an issue here, as their staff is required to clean the equipment all day long, several times a day. That, plus towel service, is more than you will ever get at a LA Fitnesss. The upstairs desk was removed to make room for more equipment, class schedules continue to be expanded with the availability of Studios, and the downstairs staff always says "hi" and welcome (and most even know your name if you stay around long enough). It is much nicer than swiping a card when you walk in. So, having been a member for years, I highly recommend it. If you are worried the owners are making too much money, or that they somehow "lucked" into their hard earned and successful business, then march on over to one of the national chains and give your money to a giant retailer. I am sure they really, really appreciate you.

I belong to a couple of major chains as well as a few private clubs in the cities I frequent and I have yet to find one that compares to Urban Body Fitness in service and atmosphere (plus it is impeccably clean). It is exceptional.

This gym is not a clean place. Don't let the anticeptic smell fool you. Staph is rampant. I know of three guys who walked out of there with it and it is disgusting. You would think for the money they coul dclean once in a while.

Urban Body is a nice (albeit small) facility. They have aerobic machines when you walk in, and towards the back there's a room for yoga and pilates. Upstairs are a variety of weight machines and free weights. There are more men than women at this gym, which doesn't bother me, but may with others.

If you want to check it out, they offer free trial periods. The membership price, however, seemed a little pricey.

PROS: Convenient location, good assortment of equipment
CONS: pricey
