I took the Medical Assisting course at KLA Medical, and from my own personal experience, I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. Yes, you learn enough bookwork to be able to scrape by and possibly find a job, but do you know all of the material (including hands-on) to be able to comfortably perform all of the tasks asked of an MA? No.

The day we learned giving shots/taking blood, we literally shot WATER into HOTDOGS. It's almost comical. We learned blood pressure in one night too, but BP is easy enough to learn. Class time consists of powerpoints and a take home study guide, so you pretty much teach yourself the material at home. The class times are listed as 3 hours long, but we never stayed longer than an hour and a half in class.

Another reason I wouldn't recommend them, I have currently been finished with the MA course for 2 weeks, and they have STILL yet to place me in clinicals! I don't feel that I know enough of the hands-on material to be able to adequately perform the tasks at a job (especially administering shots and taking blood) so clinicals are very important for me to learn these things correctly and not on hotdogs. I have called multiple times, and each time my actual teacher is never in the office and the other two women can't seem to help me either. I've also been up there once, and again, my teacher wasn't in.

Overall, the lesson I have learned is that you get what you pay for. I strongly suggest that you take your money and the little extra time and go to an accredited COLLEGE if you are interested in becoming a Medical Assistant. Most community colleges teach it in 15 months to 2 years. 5 months worth of book material and almost zero hands-on experience is not sufficient for being successful as an MA. I personally wouldn't want someone working in an office to give me any kind of shot when the only practice they've had is on a piece of meat.

KLA is the best vocational school in town. Anyone who cant find a job for 4 years obviosly needs to examine themselves. They are not going to hold your hand. We are all adults. I learned everything I needed and more.

The only problem with this program is it is costly and they don't teach you the basics that you need. After completing the program at 100% still took me 4 years to get a job and when I did they had to completely retrain me . So think before you get with this company they might not be the best one.
