My family picked this place because of the great experience we had at it's sister restaurant. Unfortunately we did not get the same great service or food we had anticipated. The food lacked flavor and was overcooked. The truffle was decadent, and their coffee was pleasurable but for a few hundred dollars, it was not worth it. It saddens me to write this because the atmosphere was very relaxing but the food was not up to par. I would never recommend this place and will not be returning. There are far to many other places to enjoy amazing food.

Although I will always be a tried and true Van Gohs fan, I have to say I can really appreciate the concept change. The menu provided a relatively wide variety for all palets, however the service can often leave something to be desired. I do have to say that I see this as more of a place for "Ladies who lunch" but, hey maybe I am just having cubicle jealously.

When we first moved to the Roswell area, my husband and I celebrated with Van Goghs restaurant-we loved it. When the concept changed over we were nervous. We should have know we wouldn't be let down! The food is always delicious, the service is attentive and they are willing to go out of their way to make your visit perfect. The bar is incredibly well stocked and the bartenders are very knowledgable!

This is a perfect place for a special night out or a night out with friends!

My wife and I hadn't been back to VG's for a few months, so it was a perfect place to go for her November 15th birthday. As usual, we were treated courteously and had a great meal. A call ahead ensured that cocktails greeted us upon our arrival. Butternut squash and pumpkin soup started our meal off right, followed by a flavorful spread of country pate-style pork loin, capers and mustard. Flatbread with goat cheese & sable topping preceded our entry, perfectedly grilled red snapper. All the dishes were well presented; all portions were generous; service was expert and prompt.

We've been to dozens of fine restaurants in Atlanta, and consider ourselves lucky to live in a town that has so many fine establishments. Bistro VG is one of those genuine treasures.

Me and my wife visited this restaurant recently. We were pleasantly surprised by the menu choices. I am not a food expert or anything, but the menu had a lot of season items - you definitely can tell that it is autumn, not spring or summer. The food is delicious and portions are not huge. I always feel bad when I have to leave the food on the plate or I have to take it home in the box - not the case here! The waiter was very attentive, but not anoying. Prices are on the reasonable for the service and food quality you get. Will visit them again!

I love places like Rathburns, Two Urban Licks, etc. Bistro VG surpasses them!!!

The Bistro Mojito is fantastic.

The menu is french influenced, but the items are innovative. I have found the staff to be super. Most are older, so they know something. The patio is nice, but the real treat is the inside decor.

Amazing find on the menu? Caramelized cauliflower!!! Please keep it there!

Only down side is the fact that you're in suburbia and have to valet in an area rife with parking. How obnoxious.

I went to bistro VG last night for a special occassion, and I was pleasantly thrilled with my whole experience. Without wasting your time, here are the things you need to know: The food was great, came out hot & fast. The service was spot on. I never had to wait for anything, our server was one step ahead of us. The wine & martini list was superb, not sure who put it together, but whomever it is deserves a raise! Great atmosphere, very chic, cool music. If you're looking for a sterile enviroment, then maybe you should try Panos and Pauls. Come on ppl, it's 2008! The hostess was friendly and so was the manager. I noticed the manager (long blond hair) was visiting every table in the dining room, it was nice to see cause it doesn't happen too often these days.......I will be back, and I will recommend this place to friends.

Like many in their late twenties and early thirties, I am always looking to get away from tired old bar scene and to find hip spot to bring my friends to show off my good taste without having to take an hour long trek downtown. That's why I fell in love with bistro VG! The atmosphere is lively, the decor breathtaking...very ITP only (the service is better!). The price range is affordable, and everyone I bring, even the pickiest of eaters, is able to find something they really enjoy. I haven't had a single thing on the menu that wasn't artfully presented and delicious...I highly recommend this place.

Unfortunately i am unable to comment of the food quality since my party of 8 never got to eat. Our reservations were for 8:00 and we actually left the restaurant a little after 9:00. Yes they were busy but give me a break and be honest. We were lied to most of that time with statements like "your table is being set up now", "just a few more minutes while the tablle is being bussed". After an hour they advised us that they would try and get us seated at table for 6, they must have forgottrn that we were a table of 8. Well, at this point VG you are forgotten.....by the way our bill later that night at your competitor down the steet was $1,136.13.

First impression - very chic and surprisingly charming in roswell! My husband brought me here for our anniversary and i was so impressed first, with the decor. Then the service also was great. The martinis were wonderful and the wine recommendations were fantastic. The entrees were very tasty and moderately priced. I ordered the crab cake entree (wonderful) and husband ordered the tuna / barley dish. Both were excellent. I am very eager to try this place again as I was very satisfied on all levels during my first visit in June. I do agree, that Valet is probably not necessary but it just so happened it was raining when we arrived so it was actually quite nice!
I am looking forward to my next visit!

We were looking for a romantic dinner and thought Van Gogh's would be perfect restaurant to celebrate 23 years of marriage. When walking to the entrance, I thought it was silly to have valet parking considering all the ample parking in the strip shopping center. The hostess was wonderful, and seated us right away upon arrival. But, there was no romance in this place! We found the restaurant too loud and felt as if we were in a screaming match just to be heard. It was so loud, you could not enjoy the music. There was no privacy as the tables were too close. Our waiter seemed ok, but was a bit on the cold side. I ordered the ravioli and my husband order the roasted chicken. I could have done better by preparing it myself at home. My pasta was over cooked and tough. The roasted chicken was under cooked and dark meat. We were not offered any refills on wine or water. Needless to say we are planning another dinner to celebrate our anniversary , and will not return back to this restaurant which in it's former days was one of our favorites.

Let's get it out of the way -- this place is not cheap. It's not incredibly unreasonable either. Two of us had 3 cocktails, six 'small plates', and dessert for just over $100. We were a bit piggy and left stuffed.

Decor is whitewashed modern decor intermingled with french country and some contemporary artwork. The music was a lot of European lounge and trip hop mixes (sounded great to me, not sure how well it went over with my older dining neighbors).

Started off with two tasty and sweet drinks: a sugar rimmed margarita with pear and a grey goose with chambord and pineapple. Highly recommend both.

Wait staff was attentive, made solid recommendations. We opted to skip on a dinner plates and go for a mix of 'starters'. Everything was fresh with unique flavors: tuna tartare with tobiko, buttery lump crabcake slightly carmelized on the bottom with slaw topping (ordered a second!), delicious gnocchi (just the right texture) with sauteed mushrooms, and a thin but creamy white bean soup with truffle oil.

We wrapped up the meal with a very unique beignet covered in sugar granules sitting on candied marmalade sauce, accompanied by a small serving of thick dark chocolate mousse (forget the actual name). I grew up on these things so at first I was hesitant, since they were NOT the usual puffy pastry covered in powdered sugar. But it won me over, nice dense interior and rich sides to accent.

Granted we were the early birds and received great treatment, so I don't know what it's like later in the evenings and hopping. But I will definitely be back...

As a semi regular at Van Gogh's, my wife and I came to appreciate the ambiance and warmth that the Van Gogh's experience had prior to a remodeling project. The staff was generally friendly, the food was typically above average and the seating (especially the bar) was comfortable.
Now it is called Bistro VG and has been "reinvented." The changes include a much colder, cleaner, brighter look and a menu that is more in line with current trends in dining such as small plates, draught beer, specialty pizzas, and a more reasonably priced selection in attempt to bring in a younger, more hip crowd.
All of that is fine. In a dynamic industry, it is important to stay current and and inventive, the problem with Bistro VG is the inconsistencies that have occurred in the three times we have gone since the remodel.
The cheese plate has varied in size and condiments, we've had the same issue with the veal w/ gnocchi, and the food has consistently been over salted and oily. Case in point is one of the new featured menu items that I tried . The "Royale with Cheese" is basically a greasy bacon cheeseburger w/ a portabello mushroom that the server touted because or the cuts of meat and originality.
Van Gogh's has always had a snobbish air to it, but since it lowered its prices to get a younger crowd, it has become, strangely, overtly snooty and ostentatious. This includes some of the staff and servers. And the patronage has become annoying, but not younger (btw my wife and I are in our mid 30's and we were looking forward to that aspect of change).
We probably will still go and meet our friends and have a few drinks at Bistro VG, but we will no longer partake in their fare. I can think of many other places in town to spend $100 + and have a better experience (Yes I had a dinner where I had a bacon cheeseburger and still paid over $100).
To be fair, I suggest that you do give VG a try and determine for yourself, you may be there when they get the details right again.

All that we have tried has been very good and consistent. The menu is very comprehensive and should appeal to all palates.

My partner and I have dined extensively all over the country and we both agreed that we are very fortunate to have such a great restaurant as VG Bistro in our hometown. Most recently we dined at VG on new years eve. A restaurateurs most stressfull night of the year no doubt. Their service was first class. After changing my reservation head count no less than three times I found them to be the most polite and accomodating restaraunt of recent memory. The decor is fabulous...very hip and alive. I can hardly remember the decor of old and we both love it. Our entire table was very pleased with their chosen courses. In particular my filet mignon was possibly the best I've had...no kidding. Hats of to Michelle, Chris and your entire staff. Well done!

We selected Van Goghs for our department holiday dinner. We were never told that the beautiful restaurant with quiet elegance, romantic atmosphere and exceptional food had been destroyed. Our reservations were accepted without mention of the tragic results of their "renovation". The decor was non-existent with warehouse-like walls and bare cement floors. Sound bounces across the tasteless environment like a cavern. The once lovely tables separated far enough to avoid encroaching on other guests conversation, are now jammed so close as to mimic Taco Bell with such poor clearance that the wait staff had trouble delivering the orders. The food is miediocre at best. We will miss Van Gogh's as a Roswell treasure and will never be back at this poor excuse for a fine dining experience.

Being a big fan of Van Gogh's, I was extremely disappointed with the make over. The all white interior is cold and uninviting. The sound level is intolerable. The Heat/Air was like sitting in a refrigerator. The small plates were okay, but the entrees where overcooked, over salted and overly small. The service was spotty and the hostess was snotty.

At this price not worth a second chance.

Our company has been coming here for our Christmas luncheon for a few years. With a couple of new empoyees, we were eager to show off what used to be Van Gogh's, a rustic, warm & inviting restaurant. What we saw was VG's Bistro, a pure white restaurant that was cold and uninviting. It was very loud and noisy...with no carpet, etc to absorb any noise. Started with 3 appetizers with the fried calamari being nothing special, the crab fritters tastless, and the pecorino & bacon pizza being good tasting but the meats were overcooked, hard and difficult to chew. My salmon sandwich would have been good but the pumpernickle/dark bread was burnt and the sandwich kept falling apart. Impossible to eat. Way too many red onions on it and overpowered the entire sanwich. Special grilled cheese sandwich bread was burnt, the cheese wasn't even melted and it wasn't hot, nor was it eaten. Grilled steak was overcooked and dish was not finished. Their big superburger looked to be overcooked and part of the burger went uneaten. The lasagne dish was said to be okay. Superior service by our waiter so we decided not to torment him about the food since he didn't cook it. All in all, very very disappointing and we all skipped dessert and voted NOT TO COME BACK to VG's (for lunch or dinner!)

Pros: Service

Cons: Food overcooked/burnt, parking issues, cold & uninviting ambiance, loud

My husband and I first experienced Van Gogh's three years ago for our wedding anniversary. We had just moved to Alpharetta and did not know teh restaurants in the area. What a choice we made!! We have been faithful diners ever since! Everything from the food, to the service (including valet), to the atmosphere is top notch. It is a small restaurant that lends to a very romantic feel. For our dessert that first night, they brought out a sampling of four different desserts arranged beautifully on a plate with "Happy Anniversary" written in chocolate. Fabulous presentation! The food at dinner was exquisite as well! The bar area is very small and quaint with bar seating and a few couches and tables. The place is kept at low lighting with candles adding to it's charm. Every time we have gone there it has been a wonderful experinece!

PROS: food, service, atmosphere
CONS: price (but worth it!)
