I just want to send my deepest gratitude to the staffs who are working at this store. Definitely, you are the type of people whom everyone wants to transact with. Fast and reliable.

I tried this store once and was not impressed the staff seemed bothered to help me and made me feel unwelcome. I want to support independent bookstores so I gave it another try. The second experience was worse the working was rude and completely unhelpful, seemed more interested in doing other things then helping a customer. Later was told that the person I described was one of the owners. Twice was enough for me, I will continue to support independent bookstores, but not ones with bad attitudes.

Pros: nice color paint

Cons: parking limited, staff aloof and judgemental

Atlanta is one of the few cities that has been able to keep a feminist bookstore open. Charis Books is a landmark in Little Five Points, and an important piece of women's culture in Atlanta. They offer a wide variety of hard-to-find books and magazines, and prices are reasonable. Charis also offers a range of programming, including lectures, readings and more. I encourage everyone who cares about independent and feminist bookstores to stop by Charis regularly. I can guarantee you'll find something new that you can't live without every time you go.

I love bookstores in old houses. They feel so welcoming and comfortable. And this one is the only feminist bookstore I know in Atlanta. If you're looking for books by women, for women, you can probably find it here. The staff is very friendly and attentive, and they offer you free herbal tea. Browsing is encouraged. Another thing I love is that the bookstore actively supports the local women writers; they even have a consignment program.

PROS: provides a needed service for women in a comfortable environment
CONS:

I loved my visit to Charis. It was such a change to have someone helping me that knows about books. While they do not have the inventory that some bookstores may have, they were able to order what I needed. I will continue to shop there and recommend it to anyone who trully loves books.

"great literature not found at B&N?" What titles are you talking about? Charis is small, the selection is very limited, and it cannot exists in today's book market.
If Charis is so valuled, then why is it on the verge of closing down? I have the answer! It is because the "loyal customers" (like yourself) do not shop there anymore. They now shop at Barnes & Noble and other chain stores.

I love the vibe of this bookstore. This house turned bookstore is quaint, with a independent feel, and creaky floors. The store clerks are friendly and cultured. There is a large variety of books written by women. There is even a consignment program from independent authors.

So sit back on the old loveseat, sip on free herbal tea and enjoy the girl power and just be!

PROS: Women's bookstore with topics of concern to women, friendly staff
CONS: Small, limited seating

My daughter and I recently stopped at Charis's for a book she needed for a Women in Sci course she is taking. Not only does this store have every book imaginable but many you will not find at any other book store. There is a huge library of books on culture, women, subcultures, and more. The staff is ultra friendly and very helpful. Highly Recommended!

Charis has been around for 30+ years and if you haven't been there, you are missing out. They have so many titles...not just feminist / lesbian / counterculture stuff. If you support independent voices, you should not spend your dollar anywhere else in this town. Do you think that the big chains care about what you are reading?!? They don't...they just want your money. Charis cares about this community and they want to help us all to expand our minds.

Charis is one of the few independent women's bookstores in the country. The store represents its status well, with an excellent book selection, along with other bookstore items like greeting cards and postcards, etc. The friendly staff is always willing to help you find something in the store, or put it on order for quick delivery. If you feel strongly about supporting women's issues and enjoy reading challenging literature (that doesn't always make it to B&N), visit Charis.
