Great midtown location with easy parking in the deck. Validation available so bring your ticket in with you. Front desk is friendly and helpful. Stylists are professional and eager to give a great new look. I'd pay the shampooer to wash my hair everyday if I could! Wine and beer offered, great Saturday DJ. A relaxing experience all around. Expect to pay Midtown prices though.
So I'm letting my fine hair grow..which is an emotional challenge..and I walk in to James Madison and see this very stylish chick with a great hair cut. I ask "can she see me?" The cherub like receptionist says " That's Christy..let me see if she has time, what service would you like?" I explain to her " I just feel ugly." 5 minutes later I'm in Christy's chair and she says to me " I hear you're having an ugly day." I loved it! She swooped my awkward length heavy do nothing hair in to this super cute up do with 10 bobbie pins and some hair spray. I left feeling like a million bucks. All the staff at James Madison are exceptional...treat yourself to a day of beauty and personal attention. Christy rocks!!!
I have been recently going to James Madison Salon in Atlanta to have my color done by Jeremiah... If you are a blonde, or want a very natural and beautifully colored hair - I highly recommend his work. He is a true artist with a vision that creates an incredible end result. I am so happy with my hair --- I have moved around a great deal from NYC area, to college in Boston, living abroad in Paris, and now down in Atlanta - over the years I have had to maintain my hair color and I have never had such a finished and perfected look. I am happy that I was able to find such a hip, elegant, and fun spirited salon - but most importantly, a professional who is dedicated to making the end result absolutely perfect. I love James Madison Salon and I love the amazing job that Jeremiah did. Check it out for yourself - they even serve wine which is a really nice relaxing way to end your day after work... getting my hair colored has never been so relaxing and stress free because I always know it comes out looking amazing!
Pros: My Colorist - Jeremiah
James' talent & reputation is well deserved. His cuts are a true work of art! No other salon takes as much time and care to insure the best haircut in the south!
Pros: Precise cut that grows out evenly - every visit!
Cons: parking in the deck can be a pain.....
I went to this salon to get a haircut and color, based on a friends recommendation. I was a little hesitant, at first, but everyone there made me feel very comfortable. The stylists listened to my concerns and gave me the perfect style, even though I really couldn't describe what I wanted. I will definitely go back!
Pros: Great cut and color!
Ive been going to James Madison Salon for the last 10 years.
I wouldn't go to anyone else.
James is the best. If you want to look good and feel good see James, personally.
I have never, ever had a bad cut from James, or left feeling unfulfilled. My glass of beer stays full, and the staff is super friendly, attentive, and attractive.
Pros: Look better than anyone else
Cons: none
I spent $100 and 2 hours to have highlights put in my hair. We agreed on a caramel color and even looked at a picture. We agreed no light color against my dark hair. Well the highlights that I can actually see are very light - not the amber, caramel color we looked at. I'll now need to spend more time and more money somewhere else to get this right. Very irritating - another service provider that can only talk the talk.
Pros: Friendly staff
Cons: Brandon's inability to execute his craft
I recently went to James Madison Salon and I love my color and cut! My hair looks amazing! Jess got my red down pat, and Stephanie gave me a great new cut and taught me how to style it, too. Great reception too. Will deffinitely be back.
Pros: Free parking, nearby, enthusiastic staff
Cons: Music (annoying)
I explained what I didn't like about my current hair and brought a picture of what I wanted. I got the exact opposite - it looked terrible! My stylist Stephanie didn't try to fix the cut when I said something; instead, she said that the next time I came in she would do it differently. James Madison was at the register and he said that he would fix it. He blended it a little better, but it still isn't what I asked for. I don't think there was much he could do at that point.
Looking on the brightside, I'll save time in the morning since the only thing I'll be able to do for the next six weeks are ponytails.
Pros: Discount if you live in the metropolis building
Cons: Bad haircut
The James Madison Salon is a one of a kind experience! The establishment eminates greatness/professionalism from the friendly front desk personnel, to the skilled stylists and color professionals! I have been receiving services from JMS for about a year now and everytime I challenge my stylist and colorist to provide me with the latest and greatest style for me they always exceed my expectations with the quality and beauty of my style! I would not dare try another salon because it doesn't get better than The James Madison Salon!! I highly reccomend this salon and its service providers!! And thanks so much to the great staff of James Madison for making it such an experience above all other salons!!
Pros: Amazing Hair Artistry
I live in both Atlanta and New York. James Madision's Salon feels like New York in Atlanta, Great atmosphere, experienced stylists and professional service. Truly a first class salon!
Pros: great location, great service, great atmosphere
Cons: none
It's been since fall my friend told me to check out the salon. I had just moved to Atlanta visited a few salons, none that compelled me to go back again. I wasn't that familiar with downtown/midtown area, but had to find a competent stylist. When I walked in, the front desk greeted me and made me feel at ease. Sarah made me look like a new person. Just wish I hadn't endured the "trial and error" of the other salons, before finding my new home.
On the recommendation of several friends, I went to James Madison to try something different with my haircut.
The salon was fun, open and airy...and the staff were all very helpful, and listened to what I wanted to do. The result is a new and different cut...and slight lightening of shade for the summer.
I will be back, and plan to share the recommendation.
Pros: Great stylist, fun staff
Cons: Dark parking lot
It is a fun environment, has a good atmosphere, it's very welcoming, and you will get a great hair cut.
This is my first time writing a review. I usually wouldn't even bother but I was so upset by my visit to James Madison Salon that I thought I had to say something! First of all, this has nothing to do with the stylists, I got a great hair cut.
But, my pleasurable experience came to an end when James Madison himself started yelling at an employee in front of everyone there. I felt so sorry for the employee that I will never return.
If you don't mind watching James humiliate his employees, then this is a great salon.
Pros: Everything but the owner.
I went to the salon for the first time recently. The workers all seemed pretty cool and polite. Dana cut my hair and I was happy because he did a great job... and I'm a hard girl to please. And a definite plus was how good looking he is.. nice sight for the duration of the cut. I'll definitely be going back.
i've had crazy curly hair all my life and have always been afraid to go anywhere and have my haircut. a good friend of mine recommended a stylist at james madison by the name of sara. i set an appointment with her a few weeks ago and nervously went it. she was immediately friendly and completely understood my concerns. she listened to my ideas and added her thoughts as well. when she started cutting i cringed because i was so nervous. i will say that after my hair was cut...i turned and looked into the mirror and was AMAZED. my hair had never looked so good and healthy. she knew exactly what i wanted and listened to every suggestion that i had. i can't say enough great things about sara and this salon. i have since recommended this stylist to EVERY friend of mine that i can. if you're looking for a great, personal cut, at a great price with people that actually give a damn about what your hair is going to look like. i can't recommend james madison highly enough. THANKS JM!!!!
Pros: stylist personality, listened to suggestions, clean, friendly, inexpensive
Cons: a bit hard to get an appointment due to high demand.
I'd been a customer at another Atlanta salon for about 2 years and when I visited my Salon Reps every 4 weeks (color, highlights, lowlights and touch-ups), they didn't even act as if they knew me! I was moved from one chair to the next and offered beverages, but it was if I was a thing and not a person. Ugh! Sarah makes me feel like I'm important and that she really cares about me as a person! So I went from a Cattle Call Salon to James Madison Salon, where the owner is about as humble as they come! I found them from reading an Oprah Winfrey Book Club book by Charla Krupp called: Look 10 pounds lighter, 10 years younger...." and this salon was mentioned as an award winning salon in Atlanta. From the moment I walked in the door, the experience was different. A posh place tucked amidst a city block, with the neatest shampooing unit and chic-est design and friendliest hair stylists and colorists! When I left, I felt like I had made best friends with Sarah and Amy!!! What a dynamic duo! And, the best part?! I look 10 years younger with my new, fresh bangs!
Pros: The Salon provides you with parking ticket
Cons: Metered Parking Garage; far from my home, but well worth the trip!
i've been going to james salon for about 2 years now and my mother for over twenty. until recently aaron was my stylist and he always did a good job while i wish him the best of luck i will always trust james salon. i have since gone and gotten my hair cut and colored since aaron left, and sarah the new hair director their is fantastic. she is eager to help and full of fresh new idea's. she is something that the salon needed, a jolt of creativity, jess did my hair color and is just as creative as sarah is. the recent flood of of coming and going employees is a bit unusual, but it is expected in a buisness like this when people feel like they need to move on they do sometimes in the right way sometimes not. the staff their is always helpful and as long as you are on time or something close the service is quick and courteous. all the staff is helpful and though sometimes the front desk staff rotates quite often they are always happy to help. i really can't lay enough praise on the staff though, sarah was happy to help set up my next haircut appointment and did her best to make it as convient for me as possible. i love the fatc that james is always there and he is always eager to make your experience a pleasent one. it seems that some people are angry about staf f leaving and thats alright but the good reviews here far outway the bad ones which lead me to believe that some people are just trying to bash. i would say go their for yourself and be your own judge, while a bit expensive you get what you pay for and i've never seen someone leave with a bad cut. if you want to get your hair cut here i would recommend that you make your appointment for a time when the salon will be less busy so that the staff can be as helpful as possible, but if you can't don't be afraid, you won't get a bad experience here
Pros: helpful, fun staff, creative, fun enviroment
Cons: a tad pricey but worth it, parking can be iffy at it's busiest
I have followed James Madison from Scott Cole Salon in the late 80's. He has been cutting my hair, as well as numerous friends for nearly 20 years.
The beautiful salon is matched by a young and talented staff. The Midtown location always has a fun and energetic vibe.
But perhaps most importantly in more than 20 years, I have not had a single bad haircut. I do on air work in town, and receive a healthy amount of compliments, as well as the question...Who cuts your hair?
As a result, here and elsewhere, I'm recommending and sending a steady stream of new customers to our good friend, James Madison.
Pros: James Madison, fun staff, nice vibe
Cons: Parking can be tight
Writing this, on what seems cheap paper, in appreciation for nine years of perfect service from the James Madison Salon.
The salon is one of the more professional I've ever visited (including a tiny recent disloyal fling at the Frederic Fekkai salon, good cut, but I was there for nearly two hours, waiting a lot) I've not once waited for more than five minutes for anyone at James Madison and my cut has always been of a delicate and apparantly effortless precision, very modern, not ever repetitive- subtley or definitely, it is new every time for me ( maybe as I only go in two or three times a year?). But the cut is never out of character or wrong for me, with a little experience to the contrary, this is appreciated by me every day of the year...really, if I had to have my hair cut in a dark closet, I'd probably keep going to James.
I continue to value the salon for nearly a decade of never wasting my time with a vague magazine and blank staring at a wall, always telling me I am beautiful, true or not, making me to feel I could not say anything that was wrong and seeming to genuinely appreciate my coming there, even one in a crowd.
I just moved down from NY six months ago and thought I would have trouble finding a trendy upscale salon till I found the James Madison Salon. From the minute I walked in I felt a comforting energy coming from the salon. I was greeted by the friendly, and sxy staff immediately, and not just the receptionist. I wasn't sure what type of cut I wanted, just that I needed a fresh look, and after talking with my stylist for a few minutes he gained my trust to let him use his best judgement. I couldn't be more happy with the way it turned out, the highlights he suggested really made it pop. Then the icing on the cake came later when I went out that night, I must have gotten at least a dozen complements from people i didn't know. THANK YOU JAMES MADISON SALON !!!!
Pros: creative professional staff
Cons: they are so busy it may be difficult to get an appointment, but worth the inconvenience
James Madison Salon is by far the best salon I have EVER been to. From the moment I walked in the service was exceptional, the people were amazing, and I received the BEST color and cut ever. I am a long time customer of James Madison Salon and would never go anywhere else! James is the most talented stylist and has a phenomenal team. It is a great location and I love the look of the salon. The customer service at the salon is great, and truly care about the customer. They always make sure the customer is 100% satisfied and has an amazing experience. I recommend James Madison Salon to anyone and everone.
As a long time client of James Madison Salon, I had come to love my stylist Aaron, however I was informed that he was no longer with the company and that I would be receiving a letter to give me a complimentary haircut with the stylist of my choice. I remembered a younger woman by the name of Jade and decided to give her a try. I actually felt guilty getting a free service from Jade because she did an awesome job with my hair. It made me realize that Aaron had been doing the same look on me for quite some time. Lesson learned! The Salon is fun and the staff cares, what else could anyone want? One thing that I always notice is that the staff and owner interact really well with each other. Oh, and where else can you find a great Salon that also carries Bumble and bumble products?
Today I walked out of James Madison Salon with a smile on my face...why the smile you say? Well, it was by far the best hair cut I have ever had. The scalp massage before they even start on your hair is an awesome treat. As far as stylist go James Madison and his entire staff are so kind and they really make you feel like you are the reason they are there. I have been trying out different salons for the past year and FINALLY I have found the One!
So if your not set on a particular hair stylist, I would highly recommend James Madison Salon, chances are the search will end there.
Pros: great parking, very attentive staff, outstanding quality.
Cons: none
I have been going to James Madison since his days at Scott Cole. As the years have passed, along with his move to opening his own salon, his consistancy, talent with hair and wonderful personality would have been in and of itself a reason to give a "5" rating. From start to finish my total experience is always looked forward to. From the desk staff greating me, consulting on my cut and color, having a relaxing shampoo and then to be able to sit back, enjoy and trust that when I leave I will feel beautiful and appreciated. I also have come to know most if not all the staff and love catching up and laughing with them. Oh yeah. Gina is awesome. Great listener and even better colorist. They all seem to really listenl to what I have to say on my opinions with my hair. In the end I know they know best. And when I see the final results, my trust in the James Madison Salon has been confirmed once again. Service is key in customer service. They've got that down. Thank you all at James Madison Salon. I highly reccomend this establishment!!!
James Madison Salon has been and continues to be on the cutting edge of hair art. James has been cutting my hair for years--he's brilliant. He recruits talented colorists and stylists--you can count on a great look from any of them. Jamie is my colorist; she is both creative and conscientious. With a New York look, James Madison Salon is the truly the hippest in town.
Pros: Great work, great service, great location
Cons: Parking lot can be a drag
I've been coming here for years now, and it just seems like the place is going down. Katherine used to color my hair, and she was amazing, but she left. It just seems like the staff turn-over here is high because everytime I come back there are different people working, and the old good crew is no longer there. The new crew is not as skilled. I think they are primarily new stylists. The colorist messed up my color, and he had to redo the whole thing. It took me all day at the salon, and I had to cancel all my other appointments. They didn't even apoligize. The salon is convenient because I live in Midtown, but I think from now on I'll be shopping around for a new place.
Pros: Convenient to Midtown
Cons: New staff not skilled
I felt more like I was at a cracked-out after party than a salon! the music was obnoxiously loud and my colorist was even more obnoxious. I felt like he was more concerned about causing a spectacle than what he was doing with my hair. I wanted to relax and be pampered, instead I was tense and jugled around like a tennis ball with a wet-head for the better part of 4 hours. When I was finally finished, my color was amature at best and the price was ambitious to say the least! This place needs a makeover>
Pros: Great Location, nice scalp massage
Cons: Lack of emphasis on skill and talent, no professionalism
I have never had such a great experience at a salon. Its a beautiful space and my cut and color were fabulous. Brett did beautiful blonde highlights (and is SO funny) and Adriene was super sweet and gave me a great haircut. I will definately be back!
Pros: Beautiful salon, awesome staff
This isnt really a review but I know many people who are clients of the salon and their hair looks great and have always told me to go. My best friend said she got me a reservation/gift certificate at James Madison for my Christmas present, and looking at the reviews by friends and pictures of the salon, Im very excited!!! I plan to get a Japanese Hair Straightening or Thermal Reconditioning (Im a guy by the way). I hope when I get there they make my hair pin straight and silky. I'm kind of worried however because in some of the reviews it says the staff is obnoxious and loud, which would irritate me if Im getting my hair done. Anyhoo, I'll write back after my experience there.
I had a wonderful experience at James Madison Salon. Everyone in the salon was very welcoming and I even had a chance to speak with James, the owner. He was very friendly and I could tell that it was his #1 priority to make sure I had a great experience. The cut and color were beautiful, but that's secondary to the way that they made me feel!
Pros: Beautiful Salon
I've been going to James Madison Salon ever since they moved to their new location, and every time I've walked out feeling like a celebrity! My color looks like it's from the cover of Vogue (and stays that way), and the cuts are inventive yet within the boundaries of what I ask for. Aaron (so cute!) puts a lot of thought into each cut and discusses it with me beforehand, to give me what I want while staying just ahead of whatever's the current trend. Jeremiah gives me color which gets complimented more than anything else about me, yet still looks natural and grows out so subtlely that I don't need to go back until I'm ready to. He always takes the time to discuss what I want, and when he does foils he puts a lot of detail into his work- he doesn't rush me like at the last place I went to. James Madison Salon has a fun and lively group of people, and I know several of the people there by name. They also carry Bumble & Bumble, which is sort of hard to find here. They have free wine and beer, which is ok, but really it's how I look that matters.
Earlier this week I heard Jeremiah went somewhere else, not sure if it's true- but I'm kinda freaking out! I love this salon, but I've decided since the first time I went to him he's the only colorist for me no matter what, so I've got to find him! They didn't tell me where he is, but if anyone knows please let me know!
I had the best experience at James Madison Salon. The customer service was amazing and the 2 people I saw were incredible. Talmadge gave me the BEST haircut and Gina did an UNBELIEVABLE job with my color. It was my first time seeing both and I was so happy I went in and saw them, they were also both nice and fun. I would highly recommend the salon and them!
James Madison is a great place to go if you're sick and tired of hair stylists that epitomize arrogance and snobbery. These guys have great a sense of humor and know how to have a good time, but not at your expense. All this and they are completely up to date on fashion and style. Christy gave me the best haircut I've ever had (I've asked countless sylists to give me something hip, she's the only one to deliver!), and I'll only go to Kyle for my color. He knows fun, new things to do with my hair that make going to him an exciting experience. So forget the other salons with their "holier than thou" fashionista attitudes and go get a real cut and color that rocks at James Madison!
Pros: They do everything right
My mom is a hairstylist owns her salon and has cut my hair all of my life. Needless to say, I am PICKY! Christy is THE ABSOLUTE BEST! She has cut my hair a variety of styles from super short to shoulder length. I adore her and even if I move, I will definitely be coming back to ATL just to get my haircut. SHE IS THAT GOOD. Do yourself a favor and see her!
Everyone at the salon is incredibly friendly and fun, but I have a particular love for Christy and Gina - they are the best kept secrets in Atlanta. I even asked Christy to do my hair for my wedding. Love them!
I have been having a series of great hair days since I left matters in the skillful hands of REXX. I followed Rexx to James Madison because he is the best. I have always let him make the decisions on the cut and color. I have never been disappointed in a year and a half. Besides his obvious skills (It would only be obvious to you if you could see my hair) he is as cute as he can be. He has a great spirit. You will love him.
Pros: Free parking, Nice Space
The stylist was a little late coming to greet me and getting started, but I got a great haircut and I think the price was very good considering other prices in town. The salon is very nice and the staff is friendly. I will go back.
Pros: experience, price
I got a great hair cut from Rex...actually probablly one of the best hair cuts i've ever had. He also does an amazing job with eyebrows. I have been to alot of salons and stylists in atlanta and he is deffinatly one of the best!!!
This salon is lovely and upscale, but I have to be honest the staff act like little children. They fight with each other, which I guess is entertaining if you like melodrama, but at the end of a hard day it's not really what you want to listen to. I tolerated it until the staff started yelling at me, too. They accused me of lying about a problem I was having with my hair. I found this unprofessional and of course it made me very uncomfortable. I have switched salons and solved my hair problem. Although I did go there for a number of months, I found them to be really not that skillful. The color was pretty amateur actually, and not worth all the unpleasantness. I do not recommend this salon.
Pros: near MARTA
Cons: unpleasant staff
I lwent not expecting much. I was booked with Talmadge for a haircut, WOW! He gave me the BEST HAIRCUT I'VE EVER HAD !!!!!! He also gave me suggestions, was extremely polite, showed me how to style my new look and did something i've always longed for, he LISTENED to what i said!!!! What a wonderful experience, I am aTalmadge fan for life!
Pros: polite staff, validated parking, personalized service
Cons: having to leave
I am just so pleased with my hair. I went somewhere else in the city (which will remain nameless), and my hair was completely ruined. Lori recut my hair, and did a great job.
Pros: Location, Prices, Staff
The staff and the salon itself are outstanding - everyone is friendly and cordial and willing to make your experience a good one -they value their customers and recently hosted an wonderful anniversary party to thank all of their clients - I am always treated with respect of my time - I recently had my eyebrows waxed by Rex (who did a fabulous job) - I would highly recommend this salon.
I've heard mixed reviews, but I decided to see the truth for myself. This salon is AMAZING and so beautiful. The staff is extremely professional and almost overly-friendly! They waited on me, hand and foot! And James is an absolute doll! He's a very creative cutter, and Kyle is by far the BEST colorist in Atlanta. I have never had such a great experience in the salon. I am BEYOND pleased!
Pros: Location, Martini Wednesdays!, Friendly/Professional
Cons: VERY Booked Up
I've been searching for the best stylist since I moved to Atlanta. I found Rexx about a year ago, and he just relocated to James Madison Salon. I've got to say that this was the best experience I have had in a salon ever. I came in late, of course, after a long day at work. The receptionist was quick to accomodate me, and even brought me a beer. Rexx gave me an amazing cut, and one of James Madison Salon's signature scalp massages. It was a great ending to a terrible day. I even prebooked for my next appointment--I NEVER do that. But I really can't wait to get back in to the salon.
Pros: Late Hours, Receptionists, Paid Parking
I've tried everywhere in town. James Madison Salon is the best! Kyle does great color, and James is the best cutter in town. Anyone who has bad reviews about this salon is crazy. They were amazing.
Pros: Receptionists/Phone, Service, Ambiance
I found James Madison through Lucky magazine. Jermiah, who now does my color, was written up as one of the best in Atlanta. It has been a wonderful experience since! I get my hair cut and colored by Chad and Jermiah. They are great! I've never been happier with my hair. The staff there is wonderful too, they always take great care of me! I highly recommend the salon.
Pros: Paid Parking , Evenings appointments, Charming Staff
