Why is this place still open? Filthy (not funky - Dirty!), overpriced, sauce is like Heinz meets Liquid Smoke. Save your big bbq $$$s and go straight to Fox Bros or get some sho' nuff bbq cheap on Sylvan Rd. at D&D BBQ\r

if you want to eat cheap, stick w/ the pulled pork, ribs are pricey but very good...

you want to get the hot sauce, and then add some texas pete on it...
they seem a bit short staffed sometimes

Over the weekend I took a friend there for the first time. The ribs were OK, but for ribs with sides and two beers...$43????? Yikes - I won't be going back!

i went there with some friends to see if Daddy D'z was better than Fatt Matts. I ordered the smoke turkey with potato wedges and macaroni and cheese. our food arrived and as we took our first bites we saw a HUGE R A T run inside the restaurant. the r a t knew where it was going so it was obviously used to going in and out of the place. that pretty much spoiled my appetite. and i'll be sticking with fatt matts from now on.

You might be cautious based on how the place looks, but this is one of the best BBQ spots in Atlanta. They don't care about decor, they just concentrate on the food. Do NOT leave without trying the que wraps. It is like a BBQ egg roll.

The food is the worst bbq I tasted in along time. The place is a shack ! If you like alot of bbq sauce this is not the place, & by the way, the sauce is bland. The food was lukewarm, and the corn bread was tasteless. I was very dissapointed with this place, especally with the reviews. They did not have any beef ribs for people who do not eat pork . I will not go back nor recommend this place.

Daddy Dz is a wonderful bar-b-q house. The atmospher is very unique...no frills. It's that kind of well-kept secret. The cornbread, broccoli casserole, and bar-b-q are all wonderful.

I decided to give Daddy D'z a shot for a late lunch today. I hadn't eaten since the night prior, and it was about 4pm, so I was relatively hungry.

I ordered a half slab of ribs, with two sides (mac and cheese as well as corn), and a chopped pork sandwich. The chopped pork sandwich was good, and if you like Georgia-style BBQ, you'll like the sauce as well. I got the hot varient, but they also offered a mild. The sandwich wasn't terrific due to the bun, it was just a generic run of the mill cold bun.

The ribs were delicious, although I did have two that were tough (seemed like they'd been smoking a bit too long.) I'm not much on Georgia-style sauces, but if you are - I'm sure you'll love them. They were tolerable to me, and that's better than 95% of the other sauces I've had around here. :)

All in all, I rate it fairly middle of the road - not due to my personal differences in terms of BBQ styles, but because of the averageness of the food. I'd actually prefer to rate it between average and recommended. If they pick a different kind of bun for the chopped pork sandwich, I'd really like that. That said, I'll give it a recommended rating due to the friendliness of the staff, which pushed it over average.

Oh yes, and the sides. The mac and cheese was excellent, had a bit of kick, I was VERY impressed with this. Corn was nothing to write home about, seemed like the kind you get out of a can.

Last minor complaint. I love the old-style "shack" feel of the place, and the smells, but it really could do with some maintenance. The windows are opaque from grime/crud, the front door feels like it was going to fall off, and some of the chairs had padding ripped off. Things like this need to be improved, as it gives the impression of an unclean place.

The food here is great but the surroundings are little terrifying. I would not suggest going here at night, you would not be able to enjoy your food for trying to see if the components to your care as well as your car are still there.

Love the uniqueness of this place. The windows need washing. I had a pork sandwich which arrived on a cold bun with a large plop of BBQ sauce on it. I had cake for dessert and it was dry and old.
My husband says the wings he had ranked above most others. They had a smokey taste he liked. We will go back for the wings.

Daddy D'z is a great looking place. It's divey and smells like a good BBQ place, but it is all just sweet and not really smokey at all. I have only been there a couple of times, so maybe I am not right, maybe they were just havin a couple of bad days, but it doesn't taste like the delicous BBQ I grew up with here in the south.

I lived in Atlanta in 2005 and once I discovered DD's, it would be fair to say that I took up a residency there before I left. If you can get over the less than attractive exterior, then you are in for a treat with this decidedly unpretentious BBQ shack.

The staff were always friendly and the fact that they often sold out of their fare tells you enough. Any friends that visited me were promptly taken to DD's and no complaints received. I myself will be back in Atlanta in mid-April 07 for a few days.. a visit or two to DD's is guaranteed. Feast well my chums.

Forget about Fat M....or whatever, this place has it going on. Off Memorial Dr., near Grant Park, don't let the location scare you away. Small, funky, yes funky, fun, great blues, and some of the best Chicago style BBQ in the ATL. Ribs, are terrific, get the sauce on the side. Try the "que-wraps", bits of pork, wrapped in biscuit dough and deep fried. The sides are always perfect, and the cornbread, Oh Man! This place is low-down, funky and real.

The BBQ is here is wonderful just don't let the scary location deter you from this place. It's not as bad when you go with a few men. Make sure to try the the rib platter - you will not be disppointed. Last time my husband I went there was a great blues band playing but from my understanding they only play Friday's & Saturday's - try and get there on the weekend.

Don't let the location or neighborhood scare you away. The sauce is a slightly sweet tomato base and the ribs must have had a salty rub before cooking. The ribs were a big hit with me. I had the Sampler Platter @ $9.99 which included 2 ribs, chopped pork, chopped beef, Que wraps, and one choice of a side. I opted for the hot sauce....and hot it was not. This place has NO atmosphere other than they serve excellent bbq (and it is served on styrofoam plates). The patrons are mostly blue collar mainstreamers and some families, even though it is in a predominately poor neighborhood. A blues band plays every Friday and Saturday nights on the deck.....be careful sitting out there, as it can be very loud. Note: a 15% gratuity is added to the bill of all who eat in after 5:00.

Another dump I used to play in, but it was well worth it, for I was paid in ribs at the end of the night. The location is scary, but not terribly unsafe before sundown. The blues there also beats Matt's on the average. But, those ribs! Man, those things didn't need sauce to be tasty. I loved gnawing on those bones as I headed back to the hills after jamming on the porch all night.

Go Tuesday evenings for great carrott cake. They are delivered on that day. This only adds to the pork bbq which is wonderful.

The only negative that I have is that if you don't want to end up looking like a mad dog when you order ribs, get the sauce on the side.

Live Jazz Friday at 9 pm.

Daddy D's is perhaps a bit off the beaten path and doesnt look like much fom the outside, but inside you are assaulted pleasently with the endearing aroma of freshly cooked BBQ to die for. The ribs platter by far the main attraction, absolutely delicious. Weekend nights you can take in blues/jazz bands live as you enjoy a cold brew and the best BBQ in town..Thumbs up!!

Daddy D'z was great for a lunch spot. The service was extremely quick and the food was excellent. I had the pulled pork sandwhich with the hot sauce (was not hot) and the waiter gave us each a free rib to try since it was our first time. This place is a must if you are down-town and want some "Q". Beats the pants off of Harold's.

Daddy "D"s is just another place that rates because of the cliente. The pork is alright, but not that good as bar-be-que. You got to have real bar-be-que, and Atlanta just doesn't have that many of them. The Best local "que" is the Old Hickory House at Northlake, in Tucker. Hickory House has been know for it's good Bar-be-que and its wonderful Brunswick stew!!! Daddy Ds Brunswick is junk. There is suqatache in it. That's not Brunswick stew. Stew can have chicken, pork, and beef, or a mixture of all three. (The old timers put rabbit, squirle, possium, and other meats in it alone with the other three or combinitations of all them). Also it has tomatoes, and a small hint of white corn. Yellow corn is for cows, hogs, chickens and horse, white is for the table!!! Take it from a Georgia Boy of 8 generations, since 1785!!!

This joint has good spare ribs. Focus on that. They have other things (good sides), but this is a rib joint first. Based on this criteria alone, the spare ribs are a 7.5. My scale is critical. Quality joint. Don't come for chicken, ambience, or service. Come for spare ribs. You'll be happy and less whiny.

The ribs are properly cooked. Good smoke ring. Pull from the bone. The sauce is not as commercial, as say, a Fatt Matt's or Williamsons. the sauce has a very unique aftertaste that does a very good job of highlighting the spare rib flavor.

I can honestly say that Daddy D'z was put on The Food Network for Best BBQ ribs for a reason. They have THE BEST RIBS EVER!!!! I have never had spare ribs that just literaly fall off of the bone before. Not only do they have the best ribs, they have the best BBQ chicken that I have ever had. I only wish that I lived close enough to eat there at least once a week!
It is just a hole in the wall, but who cares with food that good!

Being two white boys from Indiana, my friend and I felt a tad bit of apprehension walking through the neighborhood to Daddy D'z from Turner Field. It was a trip well worth taken. The ribs were absolutely outstanding. They were smoked almost perfectly, with lots of meat, a little fat, and tons of flavor. The sauce wasn't my favorite in the world, but it was still very good. Don't be fooled by the "Best Of" section calling Fat Matt's the best in ATL. Daddy D'z are so much better, it's not even close.

This place has grown on me over the years. I'm picky about my BBQ sauce, and prefer the mustard-based Carolina sauces or thin vinegary ones. This place offers only mild or hot traditional sauces. BUT at this place, the sauce is hardly even a factor when the meat melts in your mouth. The ribs are addictive, huge and meaty. The pork is great. And if you are feeling healthy, get the turkey... it's awesome. From greasy cheese stick eatin', rib & macaroni smaking folks to low carb green beaner & proteinfolk, to veg heads, their is something here for everyone. The sides are tasty and did I mention the sweet tea??? Whooooo-weeee! It washes it all down like nothing else. Please note: this is a bbq shack with bbq attitude. Wear your shorts, roll up your sleeves, and get dirty. mmm!!
