Gave this place a second shot- pompas employees- Not into their culture of can't sit before you order, we don't need your business, we have an attitude. I prefer customer service.

So I pass by this place almost every day and there's always a giant crowd waiting in line just to get in. Finally my curiosity got the best of me and I dropped in and gave it a try. I don't know if I had just hyped this place up in my head

I have gone to this place for the last time! I am sick of being greeted by people who could care less about its customers. Me and my friends joke that it's the "Soup Nazi" style of management. Only the people who bring you your food are ever somewhat pleasant. Everyone else, looks like they are so unhappy to be there, and they treat the customers accordingly. The food isn't that great either. I'd rather eat where I feel welcome and appreciated, and I don't have to stand in line like a bunch of sheep to get ordinary food.

Everything on the menu is excellent there. I signed up to receive their weekly specials via email, and will never miss a week when they are serving Low Country Chicken. Other than the specials, I recommend the fish & brisket tacos along with the chowder. When with a large group, I love to share cheese dip, salsa trio, and guacamole. The guac is chunky and fresh, truly the best I have had in ATL.

When I first moved to Atlanta so many people told me to check out this place. The food is great, and good prices. They have a great variety of tacos.

Pros: Great Food Cheap

Cons: Wait in Line

This is a great location. Usually parking is pretty easy. The food is always great. I think they put something addictive in the cheese dip. There is a great little patio that you can sit on or we like the enclosed little patio. Fabulous food. The hardest part is always choosing what to get. Definitely try the greens!

I will never step foot in this place again. We arrived at Taqueria del Sol 10 minutes before it opened we were the 5th group in line and only 2 groups had made their order and were seated. My wife who had back surgery 2 weeks before could no longer stand up and needed to sit down. Being that then entire facility was empty she sat at a table. The manager Steve Shields promptly asked her to move to a non existant waiting area, even though she had alerted him to the fact that I was next in line and that she had recently had surgery. I can't believe that they would have the audacity to ask someone in obvious physical pain to move. I will never step foot in there again. Furthermore I emplore any one else not to frequent this establishment. The food is mediocre at best.

Pros: Nothing

Cons: Rude to the Elderly, Handicapped and just plain arrogant.

.

Rude employees, long line of sheep with no ability to judge what good food looks or taste like.
This establishment should have a sign that reads " Patrons have the right to refuse being treated like sheep"

We've being going here for a number of years, and the format has officially changed to that of it's sister restaurant's, Taqueria Del Sol! We always just go and sit at the bar with George, the Taco Sargent/Manager/Bartender! What a scream! If you don't have a sense of humor, you might be offended. He make's without a doubt, the best Texas Margarita in the ATL! He raises that eyebrow, tighten's that little mustach, and get's that smirk on his face. You can't take him seriously!

Sundown Cafe is where it all started with the taco craze in the ATL! The fish taco's with jalepeno tartar, BBQ Brisket taco's with slaw, and fried chicken taco's are fabu! Get a side of Eddie's green's, home-made guac, and the fantastic Pablano Shrimp & Corn Chowder. Cheshire Bridge Rd. is doing a makeover, and hopefully Sundown will update their interior, but never change the quality of their food and drinks. And let George stay around for a few more years.

Last Saturday my friend and I went to the midtown Taqueria del Sol for lunch...only to be highly disappointed by the long long serpent of ta line streched out into parking lot. Hung over and craving....some good TEX-MEX food fast....I quickly remember that Sundown Cafe wasn't to far away and served exactly the same recipes. Alas! They are closed on Saturday and Sundays....are they crazy? When else do folks have time to linger and enjoy such fine TEXMEX delicasies. Get with it Sundown and capitalize on all that business Taqueria del Sol has over in West Midtown!

Sundown is now running like Taqueria Del Sol, so you do stand in line to order, but once you order the food arrives fast ... the food is generally flavorful, the turnip greens and shrip corn chowder are both stand outs. Unlike the sister location, the Taqueria off Howell Mill, with service that can only be called surly at best, the staff at Taqueria Sundown is down right cheerful in comparison .. hi George. True, if the line is long, the wait to order can be daunting, but that's more because people take to long to order than due to the efficiency of the staff. Considering that the two of us can eat a good meal at Sundown and leave full, usually for under $20, i think this place is a deal.

Upon arrival, you stand in a line to order. If you do not know ordering procedures, the owner and/or manager make you feel like an idiot (sit at the bar and you get to hear how critical they are of their paying customers). You can't be seated without ordering first, even if you bring your grandmother with a walker. It's very difficult for parties >4. The food can be inconsistent. If you ask them to cook the chicken tacos more, they make you feel like an idiot again. If you want another drink after you are seated, you must order it at the bar again (as the wait staff/manager/owner rudely tells you). If you stay too long at your table or the bar, they rudely ask you to order more or leave. This place makes me feel like a second-class citizen.

Pros: Variety of tequilas

Cons: Rude Service, Mediocre Food, Unpleasant ambience

The food at Sundown is great for sure, but the Margaritas that they craft will put you in Nirvana. The Texas Margarita is the signature concoction, blended perfectly with Premium cuervo, grand marnier, and their special margarita mix. A friend of mine who normally doesn't like margaritas loves the ones at The Sundown Cafe.

This is not a "Mexican restaurant" but a celebration of southwestern flavors. Everything is fresh and tasty. Try the Anaheim chile relleno appetizer (in season) and the corn problano chile chowder. Or how about "Eddie's pork" or the best carne tampequena in the city.

I don't know why Sundown is listed as not friendly to kids. My two boys go often and love it.

Don't let the dumpy decor fool you - this is a GREAT place for tacos at lunch. Not your "typical" taco place either - fish tacos, fried chicken tacos, BBQ tacos with cole slaw, etc AND you must have a bowl of their incredible corn & shrimp chowder!

At night the menu is innovative old-mexican with a southwestern flair. You will definitely want to try both lunch and dinner here - completely different experiences (and not to be missed!).

I take clients there and they love it. Its the best for a quick outing in todays markets. No one has time and george take good care and give personal greeting when you walk in. He make my clients feel great and great service all the time. If you don't like eating there you don't like the type of food stay away for the good folks. Its different and good.

A nice lunch alternative to Taquiera del Sol for those of us who live and work more on the east side of town. I've never had a bad taco--they're always stuffed with quality meat and filling. Though the deck doesn't overlook the best street in town (Cheshire Bridge), it's one of the few places on Cheshire that has a deck. Highly recommend it for a quick lunch.
