I was excited to try Chops since I've heard wonderful things about this place. Service was great. WE started with a bread basket....just ok. Then I had the lobster bisque, which a friend has raved about, just blah to me. Then at the recommendation of one of the folks I was dining with, I ordered the surf and turf. I wasn't expecting my surf to be fried, and my medium-well steak was way overdone. While is was seasoned perfectly, I couldn't enjoy it. I didn't send it back because I was there for lunch and had limited time. My mac & cheese side was overrated and so were the mashed potatoes. My friend ordered the scallops and I was shocked that they were battered as well.

Maybe I'll give them another try but I'll stick to Capital Grille. I've actually had better food at Longhorn and Ruth Chris . Price doesn't always dictate quality.

When other reviews mention Ruth Chris and Long Horns while writing a review about Chops as a long time customer I am insulted. Best steaks in Atlanta......period!

Was approached as I walked in and told that what I was wearing was not appropriate attire for the restaurant. Was wearing nice button down shirt with cargo style pants, and my wife was wearing a sweater and slacks. My son is 5 and was wearing what all 5 year olds wear. Saw on the website that the restaurant was supposed to be "upscale casual", however was then informed at the door after making a reservation the it was "Business Casual" which apparently includes a tie and jacket. I wear equipment every day in afghanistan that is more expensive than this guy's entire wardrobe and he has the nerve to say he won't serve me and my family. What a way to treat a Vet. Do not go unless you are trying to impress your date with how much money you are willing to waste for no real purpose. Ended up going to Ruth's Chris Steak House. Had a GREAT waiter, great food, awesome ambiance. Chops is for suckers.....

This is my go to spot when I have a special occasion or guests in town. Service is first class. Food is excellent; especially the lobster. Comfortable atmosphere; not stuffy at all.

This is one of my parents favorite restaurants. Yes, the food is pricey, but the restaurant is as much about the experience and service as it is about the food. It's always a treat to go to Chops, you know you will be well taken care of!

This is a very upscale restaurant that I would reccommend to anyone that loves fine dining!!! The food is sensationable... The dishes are expensive, but who cares gas is nearly $5.00 a gallon so why not pay good money for good food and great service!!!

I had a business lunch at Chops recently (we ate upstairs - I think Lobster Bar isn't open for lunch) and it the experience was flawless. We had crabcakes (which were so full of crab meat - almost no breading) and lobster bisque to start and steaks for main course. All of the steaks were cooked perfectly to our specifications. The servers were impressive because they provided everything we needed before we could even ask - a great advantage when you're trying to have a meeting. Usually, I wouldn't get dessert at lunch, but the creme brulee piled high with gorgeous fresh berries was well worth the exception. All in all, it was a great experience and far exceeded all expectations. Chops is the first place on my list of great lunch (and dinner, I'm sure) spots!

Recommend making reservations, or you could wait some time to be seated. Took my husband there for his birthday dinner and it was very good. I had told the reservationist beforehand that it was his birthday and everyone from the host, servers made a note to mention "Happy Birthday" to him. We tried the house special lobster as an appetizer and it was very good, with wonderful sauces. I had a crab chowder which could have been more flavorful - not to thick, though and that's what I prefer. My husband had the ribeye, I had the pan roasted chicken - and they were both absolutely delicious. Dessert, we had rum raisin bread pudding. Also very tasty.

I give this two thumbs up! Attentive service, delicious food, a bit pricey.

I have dined at Chops a handfull of times over the past year and each time have been very impressed. The staff was friendly, the steak was prepared exactly to my liking. Our waiter was an expert in wine paring, and made our experience very enjoyable. Hands down the best steak house I've been to in Atlanta.

Chops, like the other restaurants in the Buckhead Life Group, has always been the standard in its niche! My husband and I celebrated my birthday there recently, and on all accounts we thoroughly enjoyed the experience...from the server, to the time it took for the meal to arrive, to the food itself and of course the atmosphere, we couldn't have been more pleased. When we tell others that these are some of our favorite restaurants, the comment we most often hear is that they tend to be expensive. For us, it is all about value, and we truly believe we get that at Chops! The portions are generous, so plan to go hungry!!!

We've been to other Buckhead Life restaurants & expected better. From the beginning it was a little iffy as the host was a bit rude - even trying to make the reservation had me on hold for almost 10 minutes! The server was pretty much inattentive and when he was at the table, he did one of those "how is everything" and basically walked away before you could tell him. The assistant, Chidi (sp?), was great - he filled up everything and got everything we asked for, plus he had a personality, which the server was severely lacking. APPETIZER: lump crab cocktail. It was delicious - 2 different sauces - #1 was regular cocktail sauce that I could buy at Kroger, #2 was a pink brandy sauce with a bit too much mayo, but it was still tasty. SALAD: Caesar salads were very lack luster. ENTREE: filet and the surf & turf with filet & their specialty of the flash fried lobster tail. The lobster was chewy and lacked flavor. We ordered the steaks medium, but they were definitely on the medium-well/well side - not much pink at all, and it was DRENCHED in very salty au jus, that tasted a lot like soy sauce. I didn't send it back, but I probably should have (and I hate being That Customer). SIDE: creamed. It was really, really good! It had a hint of nutmeg in it, but when I asked the server, he said he didn't think so but he'd check. He was at the table another 5 times and kept mentioning that he hadn't checked and he never did. DESSERT: chocolate toffee crunch pie with coffee ice cream. It was more like a flourless chocolate cake than a pie, but it really doesn't matter what you call it, it was VERY good! The denseness of the chocolate with the smooth coffee ice cream and the little bits of toffee was heavenly.
NOTE: after contacting the manager, he did apologize and offer a complimentary dinner, which wasn't my objective, but it's nice that he responded so quickly. I don't believe I'll be going back even so...

Cons: Steak & Lobster (bad since they should both be the specialties)

It was a disapointment for me... Very crowded place with no sign of "fine dining" establishment they claim to be. Food was just OK. Their "signature" fried lobster tail wasn't that good at all. Crab cakes had slightly harder crust then they should. Steaks were good though. Waiters' uniforms were old and not very clean looking but service wasn't bad and staff was attentive. Overall, wasn't worth the money and definitely, not a place to take your date. I am quite sure we won't be back.

Well once again the quality of a Buckhead Life restaurant was dead-on. We had reservations at Bones, to celebrate my girlfriend?s birthday but due to a water main break they were not seating any new customers, which was terrible especially at 8:30 in the evening and no backup plans!
So we headed on over to the nearby Chops!
Best idea ever. Right from the onset, the wait staff was courteous, and very attentive. (Ask for Daniel who was our server). We were seated promptly even though the place looked very busy and we did not even have reservations.
Now getting on to the most important part: - the food: The food was very good. I had the swordfish steak and my girlfriend had the 8oz. filet and it was cooked to perfection.
A must-try try is their creamy Vidalia onion soup. (It was on the soup of the day list, so it could be a seasonal thing)

Our server even had the pastry chef inscribe happy birthday on the dessert at the end.
All in all a great save to an evening, which was heading towards a boyfriend being sentenced to a fine evening at the "dog-house"!

Thanks Chops!
(A happy and might I add relieved boyfriend )

The food was not bad, though I don't think it was worth the price. For money like that, I'd recommend Blue Ridge Grill. And, at Blue Ridge Grill, at least you'll be getting consistently attentive and friendly service. My guests and I found the waiter to be somewhat condescending and not especially attentive.

We were out for dinner with 6 of our employees from a Marketing Firm out of Birmingham, AL. The food was great, the service was great, and the drinks from the service bar came out fast and cold. The cocktails and wine came out excellent and AFFORDABLE. I had one of the best Felit's in a long time! And a GOOD TIME was had by all!

Service was good, but the food was overpriced. For the money you can eat at Houston's twice. Tables are too close together. I spent about 2 minutes with the waiter for the next table with his butt about a foot from my face. We won't be going back. We give it about a 31/5 on a scale of 10. Not worth it.

The food is quite good -- one of the better steaks I have had, and the service is acceptable. However, this is one of the smokiest restaurants I have been to in years, even across the restaurant from the bar. My hair and clothes reeked of cigarette smoke when I left.

As a non-smoker, I enjoyed the food but won't go back.

My Dad was in town for the night and wanted to celebrate his birthday at a steakhouse. We went to Chops (even though I was leery of it after reading some bad customer reviews). It was amazing. Yes, it was expensive...but it's a steakhouse. What do you expect?! My Dad and I shared a $40 Porterhouse and I even took some home with me. The thing was huge! And it was so tender we could cut it with a fork. The lobster app. was delicious as were the green beans, spinach w/mushrooms, and loaded baked potato. I didn't think a baked potato could be exceptionally good, but this one was the best I've had. Ignore the bad reviews, and make sure you look at the date on them. Some of them are 4 yrs old so it's pointless to even read them.

We have been looking forward to a nice dinner at Chops to celebrate our anniversary and were so let down we have vowed to never go back. The Escargot were served in jumbo mushroom caps and were lost in the presentation, the actual escargot was about the size of a dime. The flash fried lobster taseted so gritty and lacking any lobster taste that it was left on the plate after about 3 bites. The steak was very good, but we could cook that at home just as good.
The service was very good, which was the best part of our "experience" at Chops.
We have decided for our next anniversary we will cook a nice dinner at home.

We have been to Chops before, so we took a frienc for her birthday today. The resaurant wasn't overly crowded, so we hoped for a great lunch. It was a terrible DISAPPOINTMENT. The service was extremely slow and the food was as bad. My wife's steak was improperly cooked and full of grissle. I had the grouper sandwich, which ranks among the worst I've had--and I love grouper sandwiches. We had to ask for condiments more than once--like a simple thing like ketchup for fries--not a big demand. Service was not attentive at all. Also, we ordered onion rings--which we thought would be served as an appetizer, but were brought with the entrees. In general, I'm so disappointed, I don't know if I'll return. Management needs to be attentive--I thnk they know when they are not up to par because we were never even asked if things were to our satisfaction.

Chops is a steakhouse, one of the best (if not the best in the southO I have ever had the opportunity to enjoy. Steaks are fabulous as well as steak tartare. Have been there with my kids (teenagers) who acted responsibly and were treated as adult patrons. If your kids don't know how to act in an upscale restaurant, don't take them.

Getting seated on time (and keeping you on the reservation list) is a problem. Called a month ahead of time and got there only to find we were not on the reservation list. Had reservations another time and still had to wait 30+ minutes for table.

Service on the otherhand is impeccable. They are great!!

Waited 1/2 hour past reservation time. Seated in side room next to paint-chipped walls in a banquette that sunk down way below table level. Food was decent, but not any better than a low priced chain restaurant. Service did not make up for the mediocre food. A disappointment. Definitely will not go back.

Chop's is always a classic. I have been here numerous times for business and pleasure and it has never been anything less than perfect. You can't go wrong here. The signature fried lobster is phenomenal and you can't go wrong with steak. Drinks are equally as good. The martini's here are my favorite - they have tiny bits of crushed ice floating on top making them extra cold.

What a dissappointment! The only thing that was decent was the actual steak, even thouh it wasn't cooked properly. The rest of the food was far below average and overpriced. The seat in our booth was broken and rattled around every time I moved. Chops' biggest failure is its service. Our waiter had absolutely no interest in making the meal enjoyable and neglected our table for a larger party. It took 15 minutes for him to take our order after being greeted and I could barely understand his mumbling over the loud background noise.

Every time I dine at Chops it is fantastic. The service and food are always impeccable. It is nice to know I can count on a first class experience every time.

Pros: Service, Steak

.

Its expensive , but for those who make the money check it out. It was always a place for taking dates on birthdays, Definately Not Cheesy at all. Theres no telling who you may run into, ELTON JOHN, or the Owner of Home Depot.
Suggestion...

Get the Lobster... But everything else is great to.

I go to this establishment at least 1 time a month. It is a treat whenever I go. The ambience is out of this world.....try the Lobster Bar for a more intimate setting. The food is exsquiste and the service is what a clasic dining experience should be.

Went to Chops to celebrate my child's graduation. Had not been there before. Was disappointed, first, by the waiters' jackets. They were worn, ripped, and stained; not indicative of fine dining. When our food was delivered, my daughter discovered a live snail in the garnish on her plate. When summoned, our waiter looked at it, showed it to several other waiters, then disappeared. When he eventually came back with another plate, he muttered something about "telling the guys on the line to wash the greens better." That was it; no apologies, no visit from management, nothing. In addition, one other steak at our table was cooked incorrectly; it was replaced, but the side dishes were cold by that time, and no one offered to warm up or replace them. Very disappointing for any restaurant; a disaster at one as pricey as this.

Pros: great service, great food, all around great

Cons: , in New York.

Our waiter was horrible. He made rude, innapropriate comments throughout the night. He forgot to incorporate the gift certificate into the bill and when I kindly reminded him (which I shouldn't have to do) he huffed away and made another inappropriate comment. The food is great but because of the experience I had with my waiter, I will not be returning.

This is my first time in Atlanta and I asked the concierge at Sheraton Atlanta Hotel and he recommended Chops. I am from Dallas Texas so I know steak.
Service was excellent and the Steaks were so juicy and flavorful! The steaks were complimented by a glass of Robert Mondavi 1999 Cab! My servers were Dan and Dennis and they suggested the wine.

My meal was amazing!

Chop's is definately nothing to write home about.

After hearing the incesant reviewsof my fellow workers and friends, I finally decided to give the place a try. Perhaps the fact that it was the chrismas holidays but the ambience and noise level led me to believe I was in New yor's grand central Station.
The "Perfectly Aged" steaks were not so perfect. Capital Grille still has the edge, and the Asparagus, the size of tree trunks, tasted like bamboo fit for a panda.
The table wobbled, causing half the wine to be on the table cloth and the service not worth a 15% tip.
Will return only if I have to.

I went there with my fiance' and called ahead for a romantic table and was reassured one. The table was terrible and we had people crawling all over us the entire night. The waiters all had attitudes like we were doing them a favor by being there. There was an error on the menu which happened to be on the items my fiance' ordered. They charged us $6 PER shrimp. Thats for EACH shrimp. The waiter agreed it was worded inaccurately on the menu but would not adjust our bill. We had to go through about 3 people to make it happen and was about to the point of embarrasing. Bad experience, food wasnt bad. Just wont go again or recommend it. Many better places in my opinion.

I took my wife to Chops for our anniversary and enjoyed excellent service. My wife had the Filet Mignon and I had the Rib eye steak. Both cuts were great and fell apart in our mouths. We enjoyed our server and he gave us great service. We ordered the Creme Brulee for dessert and were surprised when they included it free with our meal as a anniversary gift. It had the freshest berries I have ever had and was truly wonderful. This is an excellent restaurant with good service and great food. Give it a try tonight!

My former boyfriend, with whom I am still friends, took me to Chops for my birthday two years ago. The food was exquisite; we had Blue Pointe oysters, the surf and turf, sides of creamed spinach and mushrooms baked with asiago cheese. For dessert, he treated me to my first creme brulee, which was served with fresh berries. Everything from the service to the food, the ambiance to the wine was absolutely wonderful. Gentlemen, if you want to impress your ladies, treat them to an evening of wining and dining at Chops! It will prove a lasting experience for the two of you.

Had to send our steaks back twice. Seems they were more interested in how THEY thought they should be prepared than the way we wanted them.

Way overpriced as well - have had plenty of steaks at Longhorn as good or better, and for 1/3 the price.

A friend and I recently decided to have dinner at Chops. It was absoltelty a wonderful ecperience. The food was positively great, and the portions were most generous. Our waiter was superb, friendly, and courteous. I only wish I could remember his name, because he deserves special recognition. The atmosphere was fantastic, and I would personally recommend Chops to anyone looking for a great place to have dinner.

The food was good but the service was pretty poor. Our waiter didn't spend more than 30 seconds at a time at our table and the hostess didn't provide a wine list. The only thing that saved the service for us was a manager that checked on our table throughout the night.

Operating on two levels, this establishment deals in both steaks (upstairs) and seafood (downstairs) in completely different spaces. On either level, fresh oysters make a grand starter. So too do the crab cakes or the luxurious lobster…
