In Short
The decor makes plenty of references to the Big Easy, capped off by a roaring, appreciative suburban crowd. The fried seafood is the safest bet, followed closely by the catch of the day and the boiled specialties. Pappadeaux's mild exotica comes in the form of gator tail and whole boiled crayfish. The massive portions, long on spice and flavor, beg for a doggy bag.

Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen is a great place for seafood. We have been several times and enjoyed our visit each time. If you enjoy oysters, this is the place to go.

Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen

by Debbie J. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 399

Lots of cajun seafood choices here ! I like the shrimp dishes and daily fish specials. There is usually a long wait and the waiting area can get very crowded. Have a cocktail and relax. The food is worth the wait.

Fun place, friendly staff, excellent food!

by Anonymous

We came to Atlanta for a conference in Marietta and I was told by friends to visit Pappadeaux Seafood kitchen while we were there.
I am really glad we did! We went to the Windy Hill location, which was kind of difficult to get into the parking lot, it is kind of hidden although the building was very plain to see, we couldn't figure out how to get in the lot!. Once we got there, the building and surroundings were just beautiful! The parking lot was full, which is always a good sign. We went to the bar first, and had wonderful martini's. They were cold, and very large for the price. We got seated in about 35 minutes. The food was fantastic! We had the blackened shrimp and crawfish fondue which was to die for on the appetizer menu. I read a previous review, and took their suggestion on getting the fondue and glad we did! It came with crusty toasted french bread. Yum!
For dinner, I had the best catfish I had ever eaten. It was so fresh tasting. My friends had the grouper....we all shared tastes....the grouper was so/so....the Talpaia with the shrimp and crab sauce over it, was absoulutely fantastic...very fresh tasting also. The meal came with dirty rice...it kind of looked like a basic rice, but was tastey. The service was excellent, the people could not have been more friendly! We will definitely go back next time we visit Atlanta.

Great Cajun

by Gavin W. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 359

There is always a wait at any Pappadeaux in Atlanta. It's pretty big, has the ambience of a hip bar, and can seat large parties pretty comfortably. They serve all sorts of Cajun food here, but the dishes I've ordered here have been mostly of the fried variety. Fried catfish, popcorn style crawfish, fries, hush puppies, you name it, they got it. It's pretty good, but the wait can be daunting.

MY FAVORITE RESTAURANT

by sw72769

I lived in Atlanta Metro area for 7 years and this is my favorite restaurant!!!. The food is EXCELLENT and the portions are hugh. You MUST try the blackened shrimp and crawfish fondeau it is to die for. Another favorite is the fried soft shell crabs. I have never been able to find another restaurant anywhere where I can get soft shell crabs all year long. I can't wait to visit Atlanta and this will definately be one of my first stops. I always order 3 each of the soft shell crabs and fondeau two of which I bring back to NJ with me. I WISH there was one in NJ/NY/CT!! Also the SWAMP THING is delicious. I have eaten at all the locations in the Atlanta Metro area. The Alpharetta location is my least favorite. Friday and Saturday evenings are extremely busy so be prepared to wait 30-60 minutes. But the food is well worth it!!!

Pros: excellent food, generous portions, reasonable prices

Cons: long waits, service slow at times

Great Seafood Just Over the River

by gregtreadway

This is a fine restaurant experience. Good food and good service. If you're going on the weekend evening then you might want to make a reservation. The atmosphere is awesome and you won't break the bank. Perfect for Mardi Gras since the theme of this seafood heaven is that of the French Quarter. I recommend anything on the menu that is blackened. It'll give you that Louisiana flavor. This will be sure to become one your favorite eateries right away.

Jacked Up Service urban service!!!!!!

by veronicawrig62

Yesterday my co workers and I went to Papa Deaux for lunch and the following happened. For some reason I started to cough really bad and requested a glass of water from our waiter. Instead of getting me the glass of water, he proceeded to keep telling us the specials of the day. I had to run across the restaurant to the bar to get a glass of water so I wouldn?t choke to death. The bartender asked if I was ok and I stated no. The bartender quickly gave me a glass of water and I returned to my party. We ordered our food and waited over 40 minutes and heard nothing from anyone. Finally when the food came the order was wrong and our waiter could care less. After one of my co workers requested a manager did we get some type of response? We received 30% of our bill but, I have to say this whole experience has turned me off to Papa Deaux?s immensely! Please tell your wait staff if you don?t want to be there, stay home.

Pros: Great food when you can get it

Cons: Jacked up staff

Excellent Service... went above and beyond for us

by hmonem

My wife and I went to Pappadeaux tonight and had a great experience that we wanted to share with all.

I have a dairy allergy that keeps me from choosing larger chain restaurants because of their menu inflexibility. It's just hard to get cooperation when asking servers to make sure my dish has no cheese, butter, cream or milk. Tonight at Pappadeaux, not only did the server do her job in communicating my special order, but the manager also came over to our table to confirm the allergy and did a personal followup with the chef. Upon returning, the manager informed me that the rice in my order had butter and got me a potato substitute instead.

As an appetizer, we ordered the shrimp cocktail. We had a greek salad (no cheese). I had the tuna and my wife had the peppered shrimp and we loved both dishes. My wife and I got to enjoy our meals whole-heartedly, without worries about surprizes in my meal. And by the way, the food was excellent, even without the buttered rice.

So thank you to our server and the manager for going above and beyond the level of customer service we normally get at large establishments like Pappadeaux.

You guys are the best -- we will be sure to come back when we're in town again!

Pros: Service, Taste, Ambiance

Reservations for a party of 22

by tc2980

The tables were reserved at 6:30 P.M. (a week in advance) but my party still had to wait an additional 20 minutes to be seated (not sure why, although it was clearly explained over the phone if we?re late I?ll lose my reservation) However the FOOD was GOOD and the 2 waiters were AWESOME. While we waited for our food the restaurant felt cold and one of the waiters noticed and brought out white chef jackets to wear :) how is cool was that? Now we?re warm and ready to EAT thanks for accommodating the Jeffries.

Pros: Easy to find, good food, friendly waiters

Cons: Busy, Pricey, VERY difficult and time consuming if you want the waiter to split the ticket

Friendly waitress. Wonderful crab & shrimp sauce over fish.

by berryfield

We called ahead at 7 PM on a Tuesday night for reservations at 8:00, and they said you have to make reservations 24 hours in advance but they would give us the "next available" table when we arrived. When we walked in the door, we heard the hostess tell someone there was a 30 minute wait, but when I gave them our name, they told us they would have a table soon. We were seated within 5 minutes! I noticed a lot of out-of-state tags in the parking lot, and it is right off I-75. I ordered the Pontercherain (choice of fish but I got the salmon) with shrimp & crab sauce, and overall it was delicious with the sauce although the salmon itself was bland. I asked about substituting asparagus for the rice (love my veges!) and the waiter said that was OK, but we found out later that there is a surcharge for substitutions. The waiter went and checked the menu for us after we got the bill and found that the asparagus is normally $5.95 but a substitution order is $3.95. I don't think she intentionally misled us. She checked on the pricing on her own after we asked about it. She really was friendly and pleasant and made the evening that more enjoyable. A stuffy waiter can ruin a restaurant for me. She also kept a close eye on my husband's water to refill it often, take away dirty plates, checked back with us after the meal arrived. We split the Greek salad for one which was plenty for two. We could have *easily* split my salmon dish. It was two 7 oz pieces of salmon! I noticed that a lot of "heavy set" folks eat there. It must be because of the generous portions, but I would rather pay less and have smaller servings. We split a key lime pie, no coffee. So 1 salad, 2 entrees, 1 dessert & water to drink came to $63 plus a $10 tip. A little expensive for us on a regular basis but OK for once in a while. It was noisy, but a big dining room. Ask to sit on the closed-in "porch" overlooking the water fall spout. Pretty view.

Pros: Attentive waitress, atmosphere

Cons: pricing on substitutions & no bread served with meal

A good time

by ailurophile

After a long, noisy wait - it was Saturday night - we were seated in the back room. This was a relief because it was so loud in the bar area we could hardly carry on a conversation. The service was fantastic and made the entire meal. Our waiter patiently answered our questions even though it extremely busy. He even threw in a free dessert just because we were having fun with him. The tenderloin, garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus were nothing special but I had such a good time at the place I'd go back again to try something else.

Pros: service, parking

Cons: , loud

Mmmm Mmm good

by tokennrg

On a packed night for Valentines Day we were finally seated for dinner. The service was excellent. Despite the place being packed the wait staff worked as a team and the service never missed a beat, the drinks were never empty and there was always someone around to grant your every request. The food was outstanding and really not too pricey for all that we received. The portions are large so come hungry.

Go on Wednesday: all you can eat lobster

by brythonic

Other then the lobster everything else is Ok. There flavor is not quite cajun (their from Texas or something) and not quite bland. It's alright if you don't have to wait to long and are looking for a nice boring meal in a good atmosphere. I am from New England and this is about the only place in the south that I can get my fill of lobster ($29.99 on Wednesdays only - get there early).

Always Good Seafood

by BelAnn

If you want to be certain your meal will live up to your expectations, you can always go to Pappadeaux. It is a chain and I really do not like to take our out of town guest there only because so many frequent Pappadeaux in their own town.

Great food

by missesquire

Pappadeaux's food is ALWAYS,ALWAYS great. I am not sure if the people leaving reviews have ever eaten cajun food, in Louisiana, if they had , then they would know the food is authentic. Since they probably have not, then their reviews are probably based on the inept "stuff" that is passed off in Georgia for food!!!

Pros: great food, good service, parking

Cons: noisey, long wait

Try the Crab cakes!

by otternam14

Absolutely the best crab cakes I have ever had, and I have had quie a few. The food is good, the setting is excellent, and my only complaint is one thing: why in the world do they not take reservations on the weekend? I would go there twice as much if I could actually get in without waiting 2 hours. Change this and I would give it an 8 or 9.

Pros: great "cajun" food, lots of parking, good bar

Cons: very busy, no weekend res., loud

Only in Atlanta

by rompoet

Only in Atlanta would people think this restaurant chain serves great food. But then, people in Atlanta think that The Varsity serves great food. I have been to this restaurant twice, since every restaurant can fail once in a while. On both occasions, when I asked for something prepared a certain way, I was told there would be an extra charge (grilled is more than pan-seared or deep-fat fried???). My feeling is that if the restaurant is going to charge me for something that world-class restaurants in Chicago or DC or LA would do for free, then the restaurant is probably microwaving pre-packaged food or reheating frozen dishes. There is nothing authentically Cajun about this place, neither decor nor food. Your reviewer was kind in stating that this restaurant was above Red Lobster. Reminded me more of Long John Silver's!

Pros: easy to find, large parking area

Cons: way overpriced, mediocre food, weak presentations

Great food, loud atmosphere

by lanafolsom

Papa's food is top notch...my suggestion (and I've tried most of the menu) is the blackened Mahi Nicholos!!! The crawfish combo is also a very good choice. The dining area is large and often very noisy...if you care to socialize with your dining company, ask to be seated in the small room in the back.

I give it a D

by mannarinod

I was not impressed. I asked to have the salmon grilled with the sauce left off and they told me it would be $2.00 more. They do not give you bread with the meal and charge you 1$ to order it. I would prefer to eat at a restaurant that does not nickel and dime me to death. Place was also noisy and service was average.

NOT IMPRESSED

by edj24

I TOOK MY HUSBAND THERE FOR HIS BIRTHDAY. WE WERE NOT IMPRESSED. SINCE I GOT HERE EVERYONE WAS SAYING GO TO PAPPADEAUX, BUT IT WAS A WASTE OF MONEY. WE HAD THE SEAFOOD WHICH WAS VERY BLAND AND NOT WHAT I EXPECTED. THE BEST THING WE HAD WAS THE ALLIGATOR FOR AN APPETIZER. THAT WAS VERY GOOD. I HOPE THE CREOLE FOOD IS BETTER THAN THE SEAFOOD.

Pros: GOOD SERVICE, GOOD PARKING, PROMPT SEATING

Cons: PRICE, FOOD

Pappadeaux has the best cajun and seafood bar none!! Every restaurant has its specialty item(s), but here you will find that everything on the menu is a specialty item. From the appetizers to the awesome greek salad to the main meal and then the desserts...not a chance of disappointment. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. (even if you don't like seafood!)

No slaw or hushpuppies and still GREAT!

by big_bill

The fried food was excellent; as good as you will find on the gulf coast. Service was fast and friendly after the wait to get a table; and well worth the long wait. Only drawback was the lack of hushpuppies and slaw; a slight shortfall that I'm sure could be corrected.

Not an easy thing to impress me with Seafood... tasted the best on the Atlantic Coast from New England - to Hatteras - to Florida! If you want the best in Georgia - stop here Pappadeaux. Only draw back, be prepared to pay the price for the best. Food here is not priced for the faint hearted! Good to eat at on special occasions even if you are on a budget. It is worth the expense!

Pros: Food Taste, food appearance

Cons: Expensive

by sinergy

This place is THE BEST!!! I would go weekly if finances allowed. It is kind of pricey, but worth every penny. Authentic Cajun food at it's best. I felt as if I was back in New Orleans again. Definately worth the investment for a date, I have taken several here, and they always love it. Great atmosphere although it can be loud at times. Regardless of the VERY FEW IF ANY downsides, it is worth going anyways. Enjoy.
