Wuxtry is like a condensed Athens version of my favorite record store in New York. Extremely knowledgeable staff and a rightful place in Athens' music heritage.

Even had it not been a key part of REM's forming, Wuxtry would be a great record store. Like being inside 'High Fidelity', this is a classic indie music shop with a highly knowledgeable staff, almost all of whom are working musicians in some up-and-coming Athens band or another).

Wuxtry records in downtown Athens is a local favorite, has been around forever it seems, and offers an incredible array of vinyl from the oldest classic rock to the newest, hippest groups you?ve probably never encountered. The staff and service, if any is needed, is somewhat proud and pretentious, but generally, you know what you?re looking for when you enter the door. I?ve purchased new needles for my record player there and bought some great, nostalgic tunes for my dad on special occasions. There?s a small little cafe and second level seating attached, although it?s affiliated with the OK Coffee hut and not the music store, where it?s cool to sit, sip a latte, and review your purchase while watching the towny locals and parking meter cops cruise the streets. So if you?re a music junky who doesn?t mind the attitude of a local, hipster staff, definitely check out Wuxtry?you?re almost guaranteed to find whatever it is you?re hunting.

Pros: wonderful selection

Cons: pretentious staff
