2 Stars: Great food, MEDIOCRE SERVICE (by MichaelForbes)

I found this restaurant coincidentally when I took my wife to the bakery store nearby. We decided to give it a try last weekend (without reading any previous reviews at City Search). It was a quite busy night for them, and I got pretty good impression while I was entering the restaurant because it is well-decorated. Yet, nobody even bothered to greet us; a lady was busy on the phone, and the other lady looked so overwhelmed with lots of people waiting. When it came to the meal, I had to admit that the food is great; the Spicy Catfish and Salmon Curry were cooked to please the customers. However, the service was horrible; I had to flag many times for empty glasses of water. The smile I got was when the server brought the check to our table. The worst thing was when we left the restaurant; the hostess was just there seem busy doing whatever without even looking at us. I don?t know what rates to give this restaurant, especially compared to Tamarind for its Thai Cuisine. Just keep it in mind that they do serve good food, but don?t expect you to be treated nicely and properly.

1 Stars: Completely awful service (by kjosteen)

While I am writing this comment, I do still feel bad about the meal just delivered to my door tonight. My family has been a loyal customer of Thai Chili for about four years and there is no doubt that the food is top notch. We could be categorized one of regular customers for pick up and delivery, and never had any problem before until tonight. The person on the phone (I can?t tell exactly whether is a man or a woman) couldn?t get what I meant to order, everything just seem complicated to him/her. Besides, I was completely bothered that he/she kept putting me on hold. It seemed like it?s a busy night for them, and he/she just couldn?t focus on taking my order. Finally my order was taken, but by the time I got my meal and opened it, it was A TOTAL MESS!!! That person hardly got my order correctly which never happen before when I placed orders. My order might be little bit complicated, but when I placed orders before, the lady who used to answer the phone always gets it right. Tonight, I was really upset and felt bad that we had to trash all the meal and went out for fast food instead. I called Thai Chili to speak with the manager and was told that the manager was off on Sunday. It was a complete disaster; they shouldn?t hire a person that could not understand customer?s need. Honestly, I don?t think we?ll ever order again from Thai Chili.

1 Stars: Very displeased (by melissagylenhaal)

Place an order for pick-up on Valentine?s Day and was told that my order would be ready in 15 minutes. When my husband came there, it wasn?t ready but the lady told him it is not going to take long. As a matter of fact, he sat and waited for another 30 minutes. I truly understand that Valentine?s Day is normally busy, yet the person who spoke to me on the phone should have been able to estimate the time instead of just say 15 minutes and made us wait for that long. I do feel bad since we ordered take out to avoid the crowd and have our Valentine?s meal at home, but I made my husband waited so long for the food.

5 Stars: Best thai in Decatur (by smithvicky)

We chose this restaurant because my friend recommended me. The prices are reasonable, great service, and excellent thai food. Our server was very friendly, polite and attentive, as well as the management on hand. She went around several tables, including ours and check if everything was to our satisfaction. We ordered the Spicy Lamp, it was superb. It took a while for them to cook but well worth it. The Salmon in green curry sauce was impeccable. I really enjoyed the food as well as the service. I plan on returning real soon!!!

5 Stars: My favorite place to dine (by reddelious)

I've been to many of the Thai Restaurants in Atlanta but always find myself returning to Thai Chili. The food is always great as well as the friendly service. I love Padthai noodle, it's like comfort food to me. The goodness of soft noodles, sweet , with a squeeze of lime, it's perfection! Prices are pretty typical for Atlanta. My other favorite dish is the Jumbo shrimp curry (it's really big shrimp) and the curry is smooth and creamy, delicious. I don't usually think of dessert at a thai restaurant but the fried ice cream sounds interesting to me so I tried it and it was really good. I couldn't figure out how they made it though but you have to try it for your self. Always Great food and friendly service.

1 Stars: An absolute waste of time (by keitajikara)

My girlfriend and I love Thai food and Thai Chili is always listed on top of our lists particularly when we have any occasion to celebrate. Sadly, our last entire experience was a disappointment. Being in the restaurant on a late Sunday night, we expected better service. Our server, however, seemed to have no interest in taking care of us. No one greeted us as we entered and no one smiled, there was no rapport apparent among the servers, and our server, who never introduced himself made us feel kind of stupid with his flat affect as we attempted to be friendly customers. His vibe was like "just place your order & eat your food 'cause I could care less." By the time after we finished ordering, we were still water-less. What made us decide not to come back was when the server handed the bill added with 15% gratuity to my friend. That was such an embarrassment to me as the host, especially since we we were only 4 people. It made me seem like a person without any proper guide of tipping. I was wondering if the gratuity was added because of of our race or simply because of the risk of not getting the decent tip. When I finally confronted him, he didn't even care and all his reply was either yes or no. The thing I want to ask the management: is it a policy of the restaurant to add 15%gratuity to every table without any prior notification? Beware of their service!!!

1 Stars: Horrible!!!!!!!!!!! (by harrisonwillards)

Came on a Friday night, wasn't very busy but they seated 4 adults and my baby at a 4 seater table with a chair on the end that was extremely uncomfortable because we bumped our elbows against each other. The unbelievable thing was, there were still some of empty tables around us which no one was ever seated at the whole 1 and half hour time we were there. At first, I didn't want to think that they discriminated against us for our nationality, but probably they did. We ordered soup, appetizer, and 4 entrees. The masaman rib and the soft shell crab were phenomenal. All in all, the food was decent nothiand flawless.
Yet, the service was terrible where they seated us and the server noticed the fact that all the food wouldn't even fit on our table--plates were coming off the edge, but he didn't even bother apologizing for how uncomfortable we all were (not to mention that he hardly understand English). Finally, he showed his attitude when the bill came and I only left 10% tip for the poor service. He seemed to be mad at me, and in his broken English he created a sentence that I, at least, should leave 15% tip. What the heck? Is that the restaurant policy to ask customer about the tip? The management should understand better how to manage and supervise your employee.
I would never recommend nor go there again to give even a cent to this business.

5 Stars: great food, excellent service (by vichugo)

I dined at Thai Chili with my friend last night, the place was quite crowded but we were seated right away. I had short rib masaman curry which was excellent. My friend had basil scallops, the scallops were huge compared to other restaurants. The spice was right. This is the best Thai food I have ever had. My server was very attentive, he even suggested the Thai Temptation which was excellent. It has three flavors of ice cream with fried banana and raspberry sauce. It was very yummy!!!!! I'll definitely be back again.

5 Stars: Great Experience! (by shanemontgomery)

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Thai Chili in Toco Hills. Every aspect of my dining experience was outstanding. We were greeted by the maitre'd in a friendly way and quickly shown a table. The ambience is relaxed but very elegant at the same time. Very nice table decorations and the furniture and fixtures were of high quality.

We were waited on by a dark-haired woman named "Judy". She was obviously Thai, which lent greater authenticity to our experience. Although her English was not perfect, she understood all of our questions and took time to explain things very clearly. She was extremely courteous and professional.

The food arrived in a very timely manner. I might add that the restaurant was moderately busy but that did not prevent the service from being excellent and the food arriving timely. It was outstanding. My friends were good enough to let me have a bite of their orders and all were stupendous. In my experience, it is rare for a Thai restaurant to have great food throughout many entrees. Yet Thai Chili seems to have achieved this.

Our waitress Judy periodically checked up on our table but was not the least bit pushy. My friends made various requests and she cheerfully attended to those items. To be sure, the entire staff seemed very professonal.

The parking is very convenient right in front of the restaurant and it is easy to get in and out. This is truly the best Thai restaurant I have experienced in Atlanta. I could not possibly recommend it more highly!

2 Stars: The absolute worst dining experience ever (by patriciacornwell)

Went there on a busy evening night with few friends and were seated at the main dining room. We simply enjoyed the atmosphere, which was the full extent of the good. We waited for almost 20 minutes for a botte bottle of wine and water. After about 40 minutes of waiting, the appetizers came but not all of them. Some items from orders were missing and one friend's order was completely missing. We only followed-up on the completely missing order, which took another 20 minutes. It took forever after our original order and after several inquiries, when finally our main dishes came. 30minutes after receiving food, we were asked if everything was allright and i honestly said that it wasnt. However nobody aplogized for the terrible service. When I heard a table behind us wanted to talk to the manager/owner, the solution seemed to be simple, which they were given discount. As a matter of fact, I came to this place to experience the good food and the great service, not the discount. I almost spoke up about what occured to our table, but finally decided not to when I heard the manager/owner was yelling at employees in front of customers.
Honestly the food was good, especially the special short rib in masaman curry. I could have finished eating the whole portion, but was very distracted by the slow service. In the end, service was bad and extremely slow. If they didn't include 18% gratuity on my bill, I wouldn't of paid any tip and just handed our secondary waiter some cash under the table, since he seemed like the only one working there.

1 Stars: Very disappointing / Mediocre Service (by michaelevans)

We always be loyal customers to Thai Chili due to its consistency in bringing authentic Thai food to please us. However, my good image about Thai Chili is completely gone when we ordered delivery two weeks week. I and a couple co-workers were seriously craving some good Thai food. Thai Chili happened to be in the area so we ordered delievery. It took the driver more than the expected delivery times (45 minutes) to get to us, so I decided to call. We' ve been told that the food is on the way, so I thought it's probably gonna be another 15 minutes which is fine for us. Then after an hour we haven' t got our food, a friend of mine called again and been told that the driver got problem, but should arrive soon. The person on the phone was so impatient and seemed like really want to hang up the conversation while my friend still trying to ask for something. We became so upset when the time reached almost 90 hours and we still didn't have our food. What the hell happened? We tried to call many times ever since but we couldn't reach anybody and the line was just busy. When the food finally came, all were cold and dry and tasteless. I meant to call for a complain to the manager the next day, but more than 5 times I called I just been told that the manager was on the floor talking or serving customers. What attitude was that? I am also a customer and i deserve to correct the problem with the manager, but the ignorance seemed clear to us that the management is terrible. I will never again order from this place. Its good reputation had almost come to an end. Please do not waste your hard earned money on a place gives your patronage no value. This restaurant doesn't deserve your money or your time and you will not be a valued customer even if the had made huge mistake.

5 Stars: Still At The Top Of The Thai Game In ATL! Basil Lamb Chops Are Unreal! (by jaymaygm)

Today, a couple of older friends wanted Thai, and it's really hard to find a restaurant open on Saturday's for lunch. But one of my group suggested Thai Chili, and in we went. It had been several years, and the menu, had not skipped a beat. This was my absoute fave at onetime, before the others came to Midtown. My loss. We were the only people dining, and the place has been fluffed up nicely. Only the dinner menu is available for lunch on Saturday's. I was somewhat put-off with the prices for lunch. But the food was pure Thai heaven. Great ingredients, and quality. We split a couple of orders. Their Bail Lamb Chops, without a doubt, is one of the best in the city. Perfectyly cooked. And the heat from the Jumbo Shrimp Massaman Curry, I can still taste, as I write this review. Absolutely delightful. Service was very prompt and cordial. We will be back for dinner. This is one old friend, I will not forget again. Thai Chili is still at the top of the game.

5 Stars: Nice Surprise! (by weenfreek)

First off, I?m not from Atlanta, I live in Houston... I was in town for a wedding, and this place was right by our hotel. We were hungry and jet lagged, and hopped in the rental car and drove, saw THAI, and stopped. The staff was nice, polite and attentive. I'm never too harsh on staff, because unlike a lot of folks that complain about service, I've waited tables and worked in food service, as has my husband, and we know what it's like to wait on the a-hole customer. However, despite this disclaimer, I found that I didn't have to make any excuses. I do sense that there was some sort of language barrier, but I honestly think that could be a good thing in an ethnic restaurant (wouldn?t that say something about authenticity?).
Ambience was nice, clean (actually a pretty nice bathroom), and neat. Nothing too over the top.

Now comes to food: Prices were about average for Houston Thai at dinner, not too expensive, and I HAVE paid more for a good curry in Texas. Portion size was good, enough for a couple helpings of the dish and one to share. However, I have to say that it is probably the BEST red tofu curry I've EVER HAD. My hubby got the beef, and his was also very tasty, though the beef was a teensy bit more well done (or tougher) than I would have liked. Both had nice complex flavor; they were well blended and balanced, not too sweet, decent amount of kick, though it was a bit less heat than I'm used to (or really, that I prefer), and there was no skimping on the quality of ingredients. My husband loved his so much, he told everyone there that it was the best he'd ever had.... and honestly, his really was the best red beef curry I've ever had too, despite its flaws.

We love Thai food, and have eaten it in many states. Although I cannot vouch for consistency, I would have to say that it was the best curries we have ever had. I hope you get that same experience.

Excellent Thai food in decatur. The pad thai is wonderful. If you like it hot, they can make it. Excellent lunch value -- portions big enough to share if you get an appetizer.

1 Stars: Unpleasant Experience (by meredithhayes)

There is no doubt that Thai Chili is well-known for its great authentic Thai Food and also friendly service. I have come there many times and never had any complaints before. Yet, my last dining experience was awful due to the horrible service. I was with my husband at a late lunch, and as soon as I was seated, the waitress already given such an attitude. She took our drink order and then just stared at us while we looked over our menus. Her english was terrible and her tone was rude. She took our drink order and then just stared at us while we looked over our menus. Her english was terrible and her tone was rude. We asked if they had olive oil, and she replied immediately "No, I don't know". I understand that her english was awkward, but she could have asked someone else for help instead of telling me that she doesn't know. Then she didn't come back to check on us so we had to flag her down to refill my empty water. Finally she was impolite, and when I asked for my food to go, she gave me a look that could have hurt me. We are not going back for a while and hope the management solve this problem immediately.

5 Stars: Great Experience! (by prbuck)

I have dined at Thai Chili many times. The food is consistently excellent. I have tried many different dishes but my favorites are the Masaman chicken and coconut soup. Delicious! The service is equally good. Servers are polite and attentive. The decor is very attractive and prices are good. The whole experience is outstanding and keeps me coming back.

2 Stars: Pathetic food and service (by colinsilveira)

Thai Chili is definitely not authentic Thai food. I went there with my colleagues from work. I would say that upon seeing three Indians, the smirks and the service levels went for a nose dive. We tried the spring rollls, chicken satay and chicken larb gai as appetizers, which were not so bad. For entrees we tried the catfish curry, chicken curry, and mixed seafood with basil. All those were mediocre and lacking depth, complexity or flavor. The curries were very sweet and could have been prepared by a layman with cocunut milk out of a can and thai curry paste.
The waitress was amazed when we asked for four plates and to be served family sytle. This prompted them to add the 15% tip to the bill even though we were a party of four at the table...a first for me after spending 11 years in the US!
I would not recommend this restaurant where the food is below average and the service is even below that!

2 Stars: Good food - bad service (by kunnikunde)

The Thai Cilli place serves very good food. I am a regular customer to that place. Recently me and my friend ordered tea after we ate deliciuous veggie fried rice. Since we almost had our stomach full could not drink all the tea by each us so we ordered just one tea and asked for extra cup so we can share it. The waiter told us he has to charge for two tea for giving extra cup. We told you use to server one tea for two people why today change. I asked waiter I want to talk to the manager and complain. I was told manager is not inside. We asked for managers name so I can later talk to him. He refused to give managers name and rude in talking. I decided not go again even though they serve good food.

5 Stars: Great food, excellent service (by tk1)

This restaurant is a must try if you love Thai food. The menu had so many unique items that it made for a tough time deciding on a main course. I finally decided on the basil scallops and was blown away. If you are a lover of spicy food, I would highly recommend this dish. My wife had the Jumbo Shrimp Masaman Curry and was also very pleased. The service was friendly and prompt and the food was excellent. We will definately be back.

1 Stars: bad experience (by ambybumblebuns)

when my friends and I got there, the hostess was busy doing whatever so we had to wait for like almost 5 minutes, but the place looks really nice. I had the green curry with tofu....the portion was kind of small and the tofu tasted sour. I notified our waitress, and she gave me an attitude, when i asked her if i could exchange for something else. when i did get another dish, she sort of slammed the plate down on the table! I wouldn't recommend this place. The food and proportion is not worth it, and the server was very impolite.

4 Stars: recommand (by Xiaojie Q.)

This Thai restaurant has some spicy food. On the menu, there are some peppers next to the names. I have tried the one with 3 peppers, (3 is the maximum) and it was really hot. I also liked the coconut chicken soup, with a lot of taste of coconut. It's quiet, clean, and the people are nice.

4 Stars: Delightful (by maryjanegoldbert)

We decided to try Thai Chili after getting little bit tired of Tamarind. We went there on a lovely evening, yet we had trouble finding the place. We're wandering around Briarcliff until my husband suggested to call. The person spoke on the phone was trying hard to explain. Few minutes after, she called again if I'd found the location. She even promised to let the manager call within 5 minutes if we still had difficulty to find the location. What a sweet attention. When we arrived, we're greeted fully with smile. One of the waitstaffs still managed to say sorry for her poor direction. Her explanation wasn't bad, though. As soon as I walked into the main dining room, I was amazed by an authentic Thai decor and felt like I've magically been transported to Thailand!!They combine friendly service with outstanding food. The duck panang and pad si ew are among the top

5 Stars: Best thai food (by foodies99)

this is my favorite place for thai food. They have the best Lamb I ever had and my daugther loves the pad see u noodles. The service is friendly everytime I was there, they don't seems to mine when we bring the kids. Sunday crowd is mostly families. I order take out sometimes and it's as good as eating at the restaurant. Take out is faster than delivery though.

1 Stars: the service is horrible!!!! (by vanessatheo)

I ate once there in April and I would definitely not come anymore. I had Ostrich Panang for myself, which I rated average, and my husband had the Basil Scallops which was better than mine. The food is not really that bad, though. Unfortunately the service is suck.

I remember that we were served by a woman with short hair who has no attitude at all and impatient. Her service is incorrect and her English was terrible as a server so that she could not give us any proper explanation about the food. The most horrible service was she came and gave us the check before even asking if we want to try the dessert.

What a poor management to hire such a fool server!!!!

5 Stars: best Thai IMO (by freakerdude)

this place is worthy of all of it's praise, by both critics and patrons. The basil spring rolls, Pad See U and Spicy Pork were all great. All dishes have a heat scale to let you know how hot it is in advance. Prices are average and an excellent value. The service was friendly and helpful. Don't let the location in the strip mall turn you away, just give it a try.

5 Stars: Fantastic (by clemish)

After having take-away from this inconspicuous restuarant a few times, we took some out of town friends to dine here. The menu was spectacular, more diverse than the take-away menu.
Each dish arrives beautifully presented with lovely carved flowers and butterflies from an assortment of vegetables.
The food was excellent.
Corkage was also very reasonable.

4 Stars: GREAT SERVICE! (by themecca)

I ordered the Beef Basil dish.....UGGGHHHH!!! The beef was extremely tough and tasteless. The sauce on it was actually decent and I would have just ate the rice with the sauce...but after three bites the sauce was gone. The waitress checked on us, as they had at least five times before, and asked was everything okay. I told her that it actually wasn't, and that I didn't like the tough meat. She automatically apologized and asked if I wanted something else instead. She didn't miss a beat...My next dish was the Broccoli and Shrimp Flat Noodles....I'm going back to get that again today!!!!! IT WAS GREAT!!!!

2 Stars: Don't believe the hype! (by sunrae64)

This restaurant is NOT good! The food is mediocre at best, and for what it is, it's not even a good value for the money. Surin is MUCH better. Also, the ambiance is sadly lacking. Do yourself a favor and pass this place by!

5 Stars: Chill place for Thai (by erinbehan_citysearch)

Thai Chili puts those trendy little Virginia Highland Thai places to shame. Whether you go for something expensive, like lobster panang or something "standard" like massaman curry, your taste buds will thank you. The staff at Thai Chili make it spicy and tasty, a distinction many Thai places miss. The patrons are a nice mix of low-key and high-class, and they're all here for one reason: to enjoy the great food and atmosphere for which the original Thai Chilie has always been known.

5 Stars: delicious! (by jmsmcdaniel)

I was introduced to this place and expected "just another" Thai place - I like a number around town, especially in the Va. Highlands area, and figured this would be another one that had good food, but wasn't unusual - I was wrong. The Tom Kha Kai was above average, and the Salmon Curry (in Green curry) was amazing! My girlfriend swears by the chicken in green curry, and everything I've had is great. However, the one thing that tops it all is the Spicy Catfish, which may prevent me from ever trying another Thai dish again - it's so good that I won't try anything else now. Sad of me, isn't it?
