My night at Rays was terrible due the average food and the poor service. Our waiter was a sarcastic fool. The food was nothing to rave about and I feel that Rays is one of those places that tries to survive on the past. Do not waste

it was not my first time dining here, but probably will be my last due to a poor service and quality of food. it started when the service first approached our table and asked if we wanted some water to drink instead of asking would you

Came here for a business dinner. The ambiance is very nice, would have liked to have sat out on the deck, but it wasn't open. The oysters were so smooth! The scallops were a large portion and were pretty yummy. Would definately come

I have been a patron for many years, both before the renovation and after. The last time I dined there, I overhead Ray berating the manager in front of anyone who would listen. We have no idea what happened and don't care; we shouldn't

I have been going to this resturant for over 15 years.
The food is very good, the renovations done recently are very tasteful, the trio (Jazz) is always good music.
The service is the only thing I would write as a mini problem. The staff is very professional however, the time it takes to get served just depends who you get as a waiter or waitress. People can be very critical on these reviews, but I think Rays has consistately gotten better in all areas. I would recommend Rays to anybody. I have the Salmon Oscar with whipped potatoes and it was devine! The Osyters on the half shell....DON't order!! They are so small you need glasses to see them. And they are 20 bucks!!! Wait for Appalachcola osyters to come back in season!!!

The only good thing I could recall about it was the atmosphere. The food wasn't really good and it took our server a lot of time before he served it.

We had a few very pesky flies - we complained to the waiter and he said the door was open or had been open but didn't offer any remedy. I had the lobster roll sandwich on a brioche roll which was good but would have been better if they hadn't breaded and deep fried the lobster. I've had the lobster roll in London at Fortnum and Mason's and they just use chunks of lobster and that's what i envisioned when I ordered i t. Way too many French fries accompanied the sandwich. The flies continued to plague us throughout the meal.

We just returned from dinner at Ray's on the River. Although the restaurant wasn't full, our party of 6 was seated in a too-small booth. We ordered an appetizer and then our dinner. And then the wait began. We waited, and then waited some more. Our waiter came by to tell us the food was coming up soon. And then we waited. The manager came to tell us the food would be up soon, apologized for the wait, and said that they would serve us desert on the house (which they did). My husband and I had seafood platters, at a price of $32 each. The seafood was average, certainly not worth the price. We don't think we got a good value at all for the money, and won't be returning. We wouldn't recommend Ray's on the River.

Be careful when using your debit or credit card at this establishment. After enjoying the sunday brunch, I was presented with a $76.88 bill. I decided to pay part of the bill with cash and pay the remaining portion with my card. I gave the bartender (we sat at the bar) $50 cash and had her take the remaining $28.66 off of my card. She brought a receipt for $26.88, I signed it and the episode was done. Or so I thought.

About 2 weeks later while reviewing my bank statement, I noticed that my card had been debited for the entire $76.88. Okay, understand what happened here. The bartender took my cash ($50) ran my card for the remaining portion($26.88) then cancelled the transaction. She then reran the transaction for the entire amount ($76.88) on my card and pocketed the cash. Not only is this dishonest, it's also illegal.

After I discovered the erroneous charge, I immediately went back to the restaurant to have the situation corrected. I spoke with the manager Pat Dillavou who smelled like he had been drinking, It was 1:30 in the afternoon. He was initially dismissive about the situation, but with the evidence right in his face he had no choice but to concede.

What I find to be so disturbing about the situation is that he acted as though I was the one who was wrong and trying to be deceitful. He went out of his way to try and explain how something like this could happen, but he could never explain how I signed off on a $26.88 receipt but my account was debited $76.88. Needless to say I will not be patronizing this restaurant again.

This is one of those restaurants where EVERYTHING is good! I'm a very picky eater, never have liked fish much, but at the advice of my date we ordered the raw tuna for an appetizer. I was brave and faced my fears and tasted this appetizer I was sure would be fishy and gross and... it wasnt.....I could tell the fish was fresh because it had no fishy taste and went down so smooth! (And trust me, I was waiting for that fishy taste to hit...) Whether you are eating fish or steaks, the food here is incredible fresh. I ordered a steak which was cooked perfectly and came with mouth-watering mashed potatoes. My date ordered the lobster which was perfectly golden with a asparagus as the side. Everything on the menu is famous, especially the horseradish crusted grouper. That dish is known to the locals here in Atlanta that have dined at Ray's on The River. A window seat is a must for this romantic setting as you will look over the beautiful river and the sunset! Highly recommended and will not disappoint!

We celebrate every aniversary at Ray's! And any other occassion we can think of! Ray's has the best crab cakes you will every eat and excellent rib eye steak. A beautiful view of the Chatahoochee River. Sunday brunch is best in town for a reasonable $25 per person.

We went to Ray's as a Holiday Lunch. The service left quite a bit to be desired. Routinely, the waitress had to be tracked down to fill our drinks. The restaurant was quite empty, so there was no reason for her to be so slow. There was a fly buzzing around the table. I can understand that in spring, summer, or fall, but in the dead of winter?? When I said something to the waitress about the fly, she just shrugged like it wasn't her problem.

Along with the poor service, the food was nothing to write home about. The crab bisque was more like a stew minus the chunks. Bisques are supposed to be a thick soup, but this was way beyond "thick soup". I make much better at home without even an effort. This was not just my opinion, the other person in our party that ordered it said, "Yuk" on the first spoonful. It was so thick, we could have done one of the Dairy Queen moves and turned the bowl upside down!!

I've always been of the opinion that you should let a chef do what they do best, but that was a mistake at Ray's. The trout was dry and the spices were seriously overpowering on the defenseless, little fish. Oh, and put the emphasis on "little". That was one of the smallest pieces of fish I have ever seen served. It wasn't even both filets, there was just the one side of the fish. I'd expect that if the fish had been bigger, but this was really small.

We spoke to the manager, who was very personable, but otherwise extremely useless. He asked what he could do to fix it, but did nothing. He said he would remove the waitress, but she was back anyway. Normally, any restaurant that I've been in that has had the serious problems we experienced at Ray's has always OFFERED something, a dessert, a reduced bill, etc. Many have even put a reduced bill without asking me, "So, what do you want?"

On a positive note, the blue cheese dressing on the salad was very good.
Overall, the entire party felt very ripped off, and we won't be back.

The location really is great. Its right on the water (although there is essentially no outdoor seating as the restaurant is set back from the water, with a small garden that you can walk around inbetween the restaurant and the water. Inside the bar had a great Jazz area.

I ordered the steak and it was quite overdone. My wife got lobster and she loved it though. The sides were good, but nothing special and the service was top notch.

It is pricey, probably not worth the price, but the atmosphere should impress if you are gongi no a date.

Horrible . . . Absolutely disgustingly Horrible!! There were 7 of us - three couples and a single woman. My husband from the first moment told the waiter we wanted separate checks. When the first course came, the waiter asked ' who ordered what'. The salads got all confused. We had to wait for bread and were told 'they were making more'. We had to ask for water. When the appetizers were through, no one cleared the table and when the main courses appeared again, who gets this?, who gets that?. And we still had dirty dishes on the table from the appetizers. The attitude of the help was 'we don't care.' Now, mind you, we had several restaurant and advertising people amongst this group. Our daughter and son-in-law own and are the Photographers for FLAVORS Magazine. Another young lady works for the Sunday Paper and formerly had spent 20+years at Creative Loafing. Her husband owns "The Flying Biscuit'. And yet another lady owns "The Entertainment Guide'. We WILL be in touch with the owner and our friends.

One of the entrees had three flimsy pieces of asparagus as a side order which cost $8.00. When we spoke with a manger, he said, 'oh'. No one came to the table to ask if we were satisfied. There is much more as to how poor the service was, but in the end we all had only one bill. Not separate bills as we requested. We all had many different prices of meals. But, in order to alleviate us having to decipher who had what, the three men just split the bill three ways. We ended up paying $25 more than we had ordered just to accommodate the evening. WE WILL NEVER, EVER go back to Rays again. And, we will certainly follow up tomorrow with more complaints to the owner who is a very good friend of one of the gentlemen at the table.

My co worker and I went to Ray??s on the River after work several days ago. I just love their views of the Chattahoochee River. However, the service was only fair. The wine was great; however you get a little more then a quarter of a glass of wine for $15.00 a glass. At Houston??s I get double the amount of wine I was give for $11.00 a glass. The service was fair. My main request is to pour the same amount of alcohol your competitors pour. For the amount of money I spent they would have to make some serious change for me to come back.

We were here the first week in March. This was my first time at Ray??s, although I have know about it for years. The food was excellent. Perhaps some of the best I have in Atlanta.

We had reservations, but still had to wait about forty-five minutes before we were seated. The bar area where we waited was nice and the time flew by. However, I was still a bit perturbed that we had to wait so long. The extended wait interfered with our plans for the remainder of the evening.

We had the seafood tower for four to begin. It was great. Filling but not to much. I had the steak . It was also excellent---as good as any steak house I have been to.

The atmosphere, overlooking the river, was exceptional. It was very relaxing.

The main problem I had was the service. Our server was preoccupied (or perhaps had to many tables). It took about fifteen minutes just to order drinks.

It appears that each table has a "junior" and "senior" server. The "junior" servers were young guys who would have done a much better job if the "senior" server would have allowed them to. It was obvious that the "senior" server was trying to impress each table. He ended up doing just the opposite. He was slow, not attentive to our needs, and got in the way of the other servers who were much more efficient. At one point the ??senior? waiter was very rude to the ??junior? waiter and interrupted him when he was answering some of our questions about the menu. We ended up tipping the "juniior" waiter separately in cash.

I would go here again, but make sure I did not have the same server.

Ray's is a great place for a romantic dinner of drinks after work. During the week, they even offer 1/2 price appetizers which are amazing--the shrimp is delicious & they are absolutely huge. They aslo have phenomenal martini's! The ambiance is also great with live jazz music & the view of the river is the perfect setting for drinks on a pretty spring afternoon. Last time I was there, I think that I saw Patrick Dempsey & Jett McCay having drinks at the bar...wow!!!

Yeah, "OK" about sums it up. I have to say that I went for lunch, so take that in to account. I have a feeling this place shines during dinner service, so I'll gladly revise my review if I go back after 5pm.

The place itself is great, but a tad bit sterile. It's not welcoming at first glance - more like a nicely decorated OR. I prefer warm colors, fabrics, furniture, etc. and this place was visually, literally, a sea of grey and hard surfaces.

I sat at the bar and my server/bartender was very attentive and kind (even though he talked about how much he loved Bill O'Reily and Shaun Hannity). Regardless, he was on top of things and service was top-notch.

Started with the fried green tomatoes which were very tasty and quick - they literally came out about 2 minutes after I ordered them. Makes me think they were zapped or premade? They didn't taste like either, so it was fine with me.

Moved on to the special which was fish and chips - delicious. The cod was flakey, light, tasty. The fries were crispy, housemade, gone.

Got out for less that $25 which really surprised me. I thought it would be much more expensive, so kudos! But, like I said, not sure what dinner would be like.

Overall, good experience, although it felt old regardless of the age of the young hostess, server, bartender, etc. It's just one of those established places, i.e. City Grill, Bones, Chops. Maybe it has a jumpin' bar scene at night - I don't know - mature men and younger women mingling in a soup of possibility?

Bottom line - I'd go back. Glad I tried it and look forward to giving it a whirl for dinner.

Pros: Good service

Cons: OTP

I made reservations on Open Table and put in a special request for a corner table and that we were celebrating an anniversary. They were running behind on reservations by 20 minutes. Then we got our food. The calamari was not fresh, and the portions of food were entirely too big. Then the vegetable of the day, broccolini, was so salty I couldn't even eat it. I ordered the $58 lobster - and it was good, but the vegetable should have been perfect for that price. The service was quite good, except the valet, who passed gas in our car...but the food is below average and overpriced for the quality..\

I would recommend Rays on the River to anyone. The place is beautiful - the minute you walk in the front door. You just know its going to be good. You will be greeted by a girl named Heather, you'll know her once you meet her. She will light up your experience. The lounge area is such a great place to unwind from a busy work day.
Along with the pleasent service and smiling faces, you'll find yourself, going back for that "One favorite dish".
If you havent tried Rays on the River. Try it . It will turn your Restaurant experience -into a good thing.

Based on the other City Search reviews we were prepared to have a delightful meal. We intentionally went at a late lunch hour (2PM) to avoid the crowds and the higher prices of the dinner menu mentioned by others. We were deeply disappointed. Despite being assigned two servers, the overall service experience was terrible. No one offering to refill drinks, bread basket that was requested but non existent during our entire meal. It finally arrived after we had finished our lunch (and after our experience we had no intention of ordering dessert so we munched on the bread then). In trying to watch calories, I expressed my dietary restriction to the waiter who suggested the spaghetti squash as an alternative to the mashed potatoes. It arrived drenched in butter and I had to move my crabcakes (tasty but about the size of a half dollar) to my bread plate (which of course was clean because there was no bread). The asparagus (all two spears) was wooden-tough. My husband, who does not need to watch calories, had fried shrimp and fries. The fries were burnt and stubby. The cole slaw at the local grocery store was better. The entire meal was under-sized, uninspired, and over-priced. Believe it or not, the service was what really got us. Our two servers walked by our table a few times, never offering to replenish drinks, deliver the requested items, or notice I was not enjoying my meal. When I spoke up to have them replace the spaghetti squash, I received the same item, floating in butter in a bowl. We gave up. We finished our meal and paid the $45 bill. Never again.

Pros: Lovely view of the river

Cons: SERVICE, FOOD, LACK OF CONCERN ABOUT BOTH

Oh my, I had a great first experience at Ray's on the River for my 32nd bday. The river view is a must. It was nice to look over at the view (the landscaping & natural beauty of flowing water) during our excellent meal. All the seafood was truly fresh quality, prepared to perfection, and worth the money for a special night out. Our server was attentive to just the right amount. One of the managers came by, checked on our experience, and made sure to wish me a happy bday. The valet guys were also great offering to take a group photo so that one picture person would not be left out.

Pros: Ambience & food

.

The atmosphere is very nice at Ray's. This is part of what you are paying for. The food was great. The service was just ok. It seemed like we had three different people waiting on us. One waitress seemed like they just brought her in off the street. It certainly didn't match up with the atmosphere.

The food was great. Prepared just like we ordered. The portions were as expected. The Mahi special I ordered was excellent. We would eat here again but only on a special occasion. It is fairly expensive. Be prepared to spend at least $80-100 for two.

Great restaurant for dinner!!!! Ambience is nice, food is great, service was prompt, location right on the river. For a couple expect to pay $70+, not including tip, but its well worth it, the 8 oz filet mignon was the best steak that I have had in or around Atlanta, make sure you get sauteed spinach along with the filet mignon, it comes with creamy mashed potatoes that melt in your mouth, the restaurant manager is always on the floor so that makes the waiters stay on top of things, great place for first dates, taking your significant other out for birthday, or anniversary (romantic atmosphere).

When arranging my reservation online, I mentioned the one year anniversary of me and my girlfriend and how I would like a wonderful view of the lake if possible, and Ray's on the River delivered. When we arrived, we were escorted to a booth that had a fantastic view of the river, and, from our arrival to our departure, we were wished a happy anniversary by no less than 3 different individuals from the restaurant staff, including the hostess and our server. The food--particularly the 8 oz filet mignon with mashed potatoes--was absolutely delicious, and we were pleasantly surprised by and extremely grateful for the free chocolate cake given to us to celebrate our special occasion. Thank you, Ray's on the River, for a memorable night!

What a huge disappointment! My husband and I went here for a special Valentine's Sunday Brunch. Only a few Omelett choices, the meat on the buffet wasn't cooked, cold chicken, overcooked mussels, bland desserts, should I go on??!!!! Oh yea, and we left $72 poorer!!!

Hello everyone! I took my wife and my daughter out to Ray's looking for the same service we got before but was upset my med. well 12oz. filet was served burnt and med. rare. Waited over 10 min. to get the waitress to the table had the filet reordered while my wives got cold as we waited for mine to be cooked again. Finally lynn our server brought it out it seemed to be cooked right but i believe they microwaved it because it was grainy like a sirloin. By then it was late they were closing and here comes lynn with desert we did not order and it was a praline strawberry desert which before this, we asked for a desert menu. We told her we did not want that. I over hear lynn g. tell her manager that she tried to give us the praline that was left over in the freezer but we declined and had cheesecake. Just horrible service and food we waited forever for drinks and everything still paid 55.00 for my filet, desert was free, wow 7.50 free for two hours of my time to eat for valentines day. I hope this review helps your decision on a nice evening with your significant other. Happy Valentines ladies!!!!

We had the most incredible time at Rays on the River. If you haven't seen the new design you are missing out--- its really beautiful and the views are awesome. The food was mouth watering and the presentation was impressive. I had the parmasan scallops and my wife had a steak...both were awesome. The chopped salad is also great...and the crab cakes are a personal favorite. The service was excellent and our waiter even recommended a great bottle of wine. This was a really fun night with great food!

Food is good--mainly seafood with 1 or 2 steak options. Prices are high--but you can tell that the moment you walk into the entrance! Ambience is more centered around a romantic evening, or perhaps a business meeting, not a good place for very large groups or for small children. Best on the menu?--Fresh Berries and cream for desert!

Had dinner with friends on a thursday night - no waiting for a table which is always a plus. The new interior is great. Very contemporary, very posh. The place was on the dark side, so would be great for a date. The views are awesome - make sure you get a seat in the lower level by the window. I had the crusted halibut. It was a bit dry and somwhat flavorless. I had to add a lot of salt and lemon. For desert we all shared the brownie sundae. It was very "cakey" - i prefer "fudgy" so i was dissappointed. But the creme brulee and and fruit were excellent! I'm surprised Citysearch ranks it "$$". I don't think any entrees were below $25 so this can be a pricey meal considering a lot of the entrees and sides are a la carte. I was more impressed with the ambiance than the food.

The new Rays is OPEN for business and it was excellent. The menu had many options with the majority of choices leaning towards seafood.

I parked in the non-valet area, but valet parking is available. The restaurant has tiered seating so most diners can have a view of the river via the floor to ceiling windows.

The restaurant was romanticly lit with candles and low-lighting. The waiter offered a mini-pocket light to help with reading the menu. The new restaurant has a "California" feel with sleek lines, floor to ceiling doors, lighting and windows. An impressive wine display is in the waiting area - great marketing decision on the part of the owners.

I had the Parmesan Encrusted Scallops on Lobster Risotto the evening I went and it was excellent. Tender scallops and the risotti was a meal by itself.

Highly recommend the new Rays!

We LOVE going to the Sunday Brunch at Ray's but in an effort to provide more and more variety they now have the buffet area so crowded it is difficult to enjoy.... We really enjoy the food and the view but service and quality has declined, noticeably in the past few years. This was always quite a treat but we are looking for a "better" spot. Try it once to form your own opinion but we remember the "better times", so perhaps we are biased. Make a reservation but remember, that is just a guideline! I do not think we have ever had to wait less than 30 minutes, even with a reservation.

Rays on the River has a wonderful variety and caters to everyone. Precisely meaning they provide meals from chicken to steak to fish lovers. The setting is a mix-of fine dining and relaxation all rolled into one. After a long day at work I was able to enjoy my food and environment set on the River. Ray's has a wonderful waterfront view. I suggest even sitting on the patio permitting that the weather is not too cold or hot. The wait time was alittle excessive but that means people can't get enough of this restaurant.

was enjoying my meal with my wife. When a large gentlemen almost falls on our table. Knocking over our wine glasses. He had a very strong smell of alcohol and glazed over eyes. He tells us in a slured speech that he was the owner and would pick up the bill.
then the manager "bryon" comes over later and says he doesn't know anything about the matter.

good restaurant.

Heard the food was good but never got to try it. Waited close to an hour but never got a table even with a reservation. This was a week night. Don't go here if you have more than 2 or 3 people if you want to be served promptly. Went to Buckhead to Bones and had no problem getting a seat. Won't be back to Ray's.

Rays is by far, hands down, the best brunch in Atlanta! I have dined at several other places who charge more and there is no comparison. They have a vast selection-great for picky eaters as well as those who like to try it all. You must try the Brie in puffed pastry-it is so rich and delicious and not something I usually see at a brunch.
The only cpmplaint I have is it took 15 minutes to get our O.J. but the fact that they keep a nice flow to the buffet line (i.e> no waiting and long lines) made up for it.

I am going to keep this short as I am not going to strain my brain remembering everything that went right or wrong. I went with guests from out of town and 2 kids 5 years old. Location great! After the wait we were sat and the kids given menus. Asked for crayons as the kid menus were black and white with animal characters and were told they do not have crayons though the kid menu is obviously for coloring. Server came to the table after awhile finally got us water. Could not answer questions about the wine or about the salmon app. I prompted him by asking if certain things were served with it. The service is slow and disjointed. The food was good. the menu is like a rip off of mccormick and schmick. He added some wrong things to our bill and we had to point it out. Anyway. I think this place is better as a place for cocktails overlooking the water than a nice dinner. Not impressed, but certainly not the worst place in the world. Might go back for snacks and cocktails at the bar but that is it .

My wife, kids and I went there for an early dinner. Not too much people in the restaurant. The view is astonishing- nice Chattahoochee River view with a great walk after dinner along the river. Although the site-location and view were great the food was not matched. Basically I was expecting the food to be of the quality of the view for the price. Why not?-
