We have been Charter customers for ~6 years now--not by choice. Originally there was no choice, and now we need the cable modem for work (I don't think there are other choices for high speed yet in my area). Charter has on more than one occasion tried to bully us into higher rate packages an in some cases deliberately misled us. For years we had the premium service, HBO, Cinemax, Cable modem, etc. We were paying ~$130/month. Every time we tried to downgrade, they said it would cost us more to do so b/c of set-up fees, loss of special rates, etc. Finally my wife spoke to someone with some integrity there and he informed us that we were being charged all of our items a la carte--meaning we were not getting any discounts for bundling all services.

We now only receive basic cable (20 channels), cable modem and subscribe to Netflix.

I have not had any problems with their technicians (when they show up), they are usually independent contractors. But the phone operators are in my opinion on the whole untrustworthy and unscrupulous. Be careful and be firm about what you want when dealing with them.

For many years they were charging us a cable modem 'rental fee'. when we called finally to have it serviced/replaced, they told us that we had over the years paid enough to buy the (out dated) equipment. So they would no longer being chargin us rent for it. Big (sarcastic) thanks, Charter!

Although we have to use Charter where we live, I must say that I personally haven't experienced any problems thus far. They supply us with our cable and phone service and we're pretty satisfied with them.

If you have a choice, don't pick them. We didn't have a choice. We have had two different technicians come to install the hd box, but both times were not right. However, the technicians were on time and friendly.
