The Marietta Museum of History offers its visitors more than you would think. The Museum has four galleries that is sure to appeal to everyone in the family. The Homelife Gallery provides visitors with numerous vignettes and temporary exhibits. The Military gallery has an extensive collection of firearms and explores the military from the American Revolution to the current conflict in Iraq.
The Andrews Bedroom shows what a hotel room looked like in 1862 the night before the Great Locomotive Chase, which started in Marietta. The General History gallery explores the history of Marietta and Cobb County. Do not forget to look in the Museum Store for great gift ideas all year long.

From the moment we stepped into the Marietta Museum of History, I was engulfed in the feeling of layers of time. The museum is located in the pre-Civil War Kennesaw House, at one time an important hotel back in Marietta's resort days. Many people claim it is haunted, since, like most large buildings of its day, its basement was used as a Civil War hospital. The displays naturally include Civil War artifacts and replica uniforms. But I also loved the dream kitchen of the 1940's and other home exhibits through the years. The staff here is very friendly and the visit is definitely worth the inexpensive entry fee.

PROS: Great location, friendly staff, interactive exhibits in some areas
CONS: None

Our visit to this tiny museum found us amazed at the amount of historical things could be packed into this small museum, but not only is it fun to browse, through the three galleries, there are tour guides and voluteers willing to answer your questions. My favorite was the Homelife Gallery including vignettes of rooms from times past. Like any Georgia museum, you must also have Civil War memorabilia.. this one is no exception.
