made an online purchase from Dirt Cheep Music for a Michael Kelly Patriot Glory w/ hardshell case.\r
\r
I'm from Ontario Canada and the instrument I was looking for was unavailable anywhere locally. To keep the review short, let me just say that my being from Canada complicated the transaction greatly, but Aaron Rathbone and his staff gave me some very personal attention to make sure the guitar made its way to me. The guitar itself had some issues, but since it was shipped direct from the factory, it had nothing to do with Dirt Cheep. Even so, they were very concerned with making sure I was happy, and they looked after every detail until all issues were resolved. \r
\r
The things that stood out most to me were:\r
1) Excellent prices\r
2) Attentive, personal service\r
3) Open and honest communication, and very quick responses to emails and questions\r
4) A willingness to ""make it work"", no matter the challenges involved.\r
\r
I would highly recommend Dirt Cheep Music for any of your musical needs. They really make you feel like you're the #1 customer.\r

Steve was friendly and helped us get everything for our boys while saving us money at the same time. I felt like we didn't just make a sale, but built a relationship. His Passion for music included great tips on how to help our kids excel and develop a better bond with them. I will ALWAYS come back for all my family's music needs.

I recently went to Dirt Cheep Music with the idea of purchasing a bass guitar to learn. I had been to Jackson's music, but the owner was very rude, so I walked out and did not buy anything; but at Dirt Cheep Music, I walked in and was greeted by one of the staff who asked what I needed. I replyed promptly that I was looking to learn bass guitar and I needed a starter kit. The employee John Rathbone was very patient and explained everything I needed to know and other possible options. I did buy a bass and amp at the store and I am very pleased with my purchase. Great store!

I've made two major instrument purchases here and they were great! They have great prices and I really felt like I got a lot for my money. If you need help understanding how to buy something, they're honest and will make sure you get what you need and won't try to sell something too expensive. I grew up in a family of musicians and although I'm not a pro, I did learn some things hanging out at music stores with my dad. These guys are clearly very well suited to help the professional's needs as well.

I loved working with Dirt Cheep, we bought a Bass Instrument from them. My children are in band & orchestra and they are helpful there. I will definitely go back!

I've shopped at Dirt Cheep since I bought my first guitar in 1993, and have always loved the store. The staff changes from time to time (what store doesn't?) but the atmosphere remains comfortable. I prefer to shop with a local business instead of one of the monster chains, so Guitar Center is not for me. This place treats you well, and the prices are terrific. You can buy new or used at the same price or lower than the big chains.\r
\r
I do want to address the negative comments in the other review about the M-Audio Uno, because it looks like this guy registered on every search site just to post his nasty review... LEARN BEFORE YOU BUY. Not every person that works in every music store knows how every piece of gear works with YOUR equipment. Any time you deal with electronics you run the risk of incompatibility, as you should know since you're an IT professional. Don't blame the music store, or the guy behind the counter who plays guitar while he talks (gasp! in a music store?!?? you can't play guitar in a music store! that's outrageous!!!!). I have to defend these guys, they're the most trustworthy place around town. Ask anybody, and do some reading before you make an electronics purchase. \r
\r
Every single one of my experiences with this store have been positive. I get a great deal, good advice, and am treated fairly. What more can you ask for?

Do some reading before you make an electronics purchase. If you are so knowledgeable about computers and MIDI, why did you buy an incompatible cable?

On November 24 I bought a M-audio Uno (USB to midi adapter) on advise from this store to connect a Yamaha keyboard to my pc..\r
Once home I installed it and have been trying for hours to get this device to work with my keyboard, without success.. After reading a lot on the internet (Amazon was very helpful in this case!), it appears that this device combined with Yamaha keyboards indeed has problems. (Not saying the device is bad, just not compatible!)..\r
I went back to this store to tell them about my findings. I tried to tell them and advise them that this M-Audio & a Yamaha keyboard (no matter what model) has problems together.. They did not want to hear it and worse yet, they tried to throw a couple of hard terms about midi in it, hoping to confuse me. When they noticed I had also a lot of knowledge about midi devices, it got quiet and the owner(!) started arguing that all midi is the same and that what I told was nonsense. Perhaps I should also mention that he did this while playing a guitar and not looking at me!\r
Another fun part he brought up, that it must be my pc?s hardware/software? To bad for him however, I?m an IT professional so I knew 100% sure it was not my pc.\r
When I finally got done with him, I had to explain my story again and again!, to 2 more people who work there (guess one cannot handle a customer with knowledge??)?\r
This is definitely a store I will NEVER go back again after such treatment. C'mon.. from what I have found on the internet about +/- 60 people who have exactly the same issue with this M-Audio Uno and a Yamaha keyboard. Are they all wrong and is this rude person in the store right? I'll let you decide!\r
For all Yamaha users out there (and also others): I discovered a very good USB to midi adapter to use is the UX16 and cost the same.\r
Dirt Cheep Music? They won't last this way.. Perhaps selling DIRT might be more in their future!

Pros: Are there any???

Cons: The employees and owner's attitude towards customers

Are you:

1. Short on cash?
2. Knowledgeable on your instruments?
3. Unable to go on without starting a garage band?
4. Giving up on your dreams of a rock star and want some money back?

This is the place for you. Dirt Cheep buys your old instruments as well as offers several for sale. There are few places where you can buy a $100 Fender, and even fewer places that will take the beat-up guitar you and your buddies smashed when you got drunk and pretended to be The Who.

PROS: Great prices, buy backs galore!
CONS: Selection limited to the remants of Joe Rockstar's broken dreams
