The Scene
CosmoLava's vibe is less eclectic and more composed than that of Midtown's other houses-turned-lounges, but that doesn't mean it's any less crowded. The well-preened 30-something patrons squeeze in and spill out on weekend nights, giving their business-casual attire an extra press. With the main room half occupied by the polished curve of the bar, the space fills up as quickly as its glasses. An outdoor patio offers breathing room. Weekends feature, appropriately, house DJs.

The Draw
The lounge acts as a transition zone for those looking to dip their toes into Midtown nightlife. With well-mixed drinks, including a couple dozen varieties of martinis, and a notorious pickup scene, there's a good chance you'll find the liquid courage to meet someone new, and maybe take on a neighboring dance club.

Key Points

  • 6 Environments w/ Outdoor Deck
  • 3 separate DJs & Dance Floors
  • Corporate & Private Events,VIP

The Inside Scoop

  1. The Extras - Cosmo Lounge has a sister lounge, Lava that is only a bridge walk away. If you like dancing more than casual cocktail sipping, visit Lava.
  2. What to Drink - Along with the signature cosmopolitan, there's a menu of almost 30 martinis.
  3. Look Good - Sign up for the online newsletter and get free cocktails and admission on select nights.

Awesome place!! Shnasty crowd..

by mandygballs

We went here for my 22nd birthday. Me and 7 of my friends dressed up. It was really easy to find, right off of west peachtree street and parking was every where. I read some where before we went that you could find some where to park for free, but we had two car loads and following so we just kind of picked one of the lots to park in. Parking is 4 dollars and hour or 10 for the whole night, we split parking. Once we got to the door we decided to enter in the lava part. We got our ids checked down below the steps and then walked up to the steps and apon entering a female behind a desk takes your 10 dollar cover. (covers differ so check the website cosmolavacom to see what it will be for the night you plan to visit) once we walked in there is a bar not even a foot away so we got 6 shots poured in under 2 minutes and the bartender even bought mine since it was my birthday! (not creepy either he didnt even ask whos bday it was just said one was on him) so then we decided we just wanted to walk around for a bit and scope the place out. so like a train we walked down stairs to the dance floor. It was lit up pink and was playing a little bit of top40 rap and some reggae ton which was kind of fun but i realized I needed to be drunker. We walk up to the bartender close by, a cute blonde, and I ordered grey goose and pinapple. It was 9 dollars and came in a teeny rocks glass. !! My friend got a taller glass for 8 bucks, vodka redbull. My other friends got vodka tonics, again in tall glasses and theirs were 6 dollars. So go for the vodka tonics! If you want a cheap drink. After the drinks we walked around some more. Upstairs was the patio and a vip room. there are three levels and its easy to get lost. the girl downstairs didnt have any budlight lime but there are a few bars on the patio too maybe two but i know for sure one its a teeny like, beer tub type bar and she has beers and some liquor but she was sort of a b*tch. the girl downstairs thought my friend was joking when she asked for a s*x on the beach so she didnt make it and my friend stood there waiting on her to make it and when she realized she wasnt kidding she laughed. My friend didnt find that funny. her s*x on the beach tasted awesome though. but, we went up to the vip room, the only let so many in at a time and have it roped off with a bouncer. It was tighter space, like partying in someones attick. Very cool. they played like "hips dont lie" shakira song, and 50 cent, its your birthday... you know...standard songs you dance too when you shwasted. so then I decided I needed to be drunker. ha. my friend bought two shots of jagermeister and two vodka tonics for 26 bucks, (i know yall will appreciate the prices, i always wonder how much drinks costs everywhere) and anyhow, i started just buying beers. at 4 a pop and you can control how strong ur drink is because, well, its a beer! and there was a photographer there who took 3 pictures of us, he was very friendly and talkative. TONS of singles are here, that of course wasnt for us since it was ladies night but everyone was trying to talk to us. A lot of sweaty italian men go here, its very diverse. The only thing we did not like about it is everyone there seemed to be about 28 to 40 years old and that just was not our scene. This place is so amazing and great, we just wish there were more attractive, young people here. We stood out like a sore thumb. GREAT PLACE, bring lots of money if you plan on staying all night. We left after an hour to go to east atlanta where the drinks are cheaper and the people are more fun!

Pros: CRAZY cool ambience, good music, dim lights, bad a$$ patio

Cons: 10 dollar cover, pay to park all around (4 dollars an hour)

pleasantly surprised

by sashababy

i didn't know what to expect at my first time at cosmolava-was it two places, or one? but after i got in and figured out the layout i got a sense of what each place was and how the places were different but also all seemed to flow together. It's not as pretentious as some clubs in atlanta can be, and the drinks were very reasonable. the music was all the top 40 stuff my friends and i like dancing to, we really liked the upstairs area and stayed there pretty much the entire night. the bartenders were friendly and we never had to wait long for drinks so we were very happy with this place overall. we will def. be going back!

Impressive staff/service, great drinks, good prices..Part 3

by MrsBraveNDawgFan

As mentioned before, one of the attractive things about CosmoLava is the number of different bars between the two clubs and the music selection. Now, granted I am not the biggest fan of house music or top-40 remixes, the three DJ's between the two clubs generally have something to offer for everyone. For those who don't want to dance or lose their hearing in the process, the deck and upstairs patio provide a nice escape if you can secure some real estate. The patio, from what I could tell, was the busiest area in both clubs. On a hot, humid summer Atlanta night you would think that the comfort of AC inside would be the most desirable place, but, truth be told, I could hardly tell if AC was even on when I went back inside to Lava to get our drinks. Cont....
The crowd was diverse, with a good mix of 20, 30, and 40-somethings both male and female. Everyone, for the most part, seemed to be enjoying themselves and the pretentious attitude that littered the midtown club scene years ago seemed non-existent.

Overall, all of our group had a great time and we will definitely come back.

The pros: The staff, especially Mike and Lauren, who really added to our enjoyment and entertainment for the evening with their service and personalities. A clean bar and great drinks. The aforementioned club layout and music selection.

The cons: The lack of air conditioning in ANY of the rooms. I realize it is hot, crowded, and a club...but some relief from the humidity outside shouldn't be too much to ask. Preparation...it was odd to say the least to have a computer guy working behind the bar at midnight on a Saturday, but the systems might have crashed that evening and it might not have been avoidable.

Impressive staff/service, great drinks, good prices...Part 1

by BraveNDawgFan

Last night (7/12) my wife and I met up with several other couples after dinner at CosmoLava. We parked across the street in the large, well-lit lot ($8) and noticed that a handful of party-goers already seemed to be enjoying themselves out on the deck. We arrived shortly after 1030, noticed a line at the Cosmo door, and decided to enter upon Lava and eventually make our way to the deck or inside of Cosmo. Most people do not realize that entry at either place entitles you access to both clubs. At any rate, it had been 4-5 years since we had been in there but we always had a good time and expected nothing less even though we have settled down. The cover charge for the two of us was $20 which is about the norm for the Crescent Street clubs, and the door guys greeted and welcomed us with a smile.

Once we got in I noticed several renovations that the owners have done to the Lava side of the club. Adjacent to the main bar are two huge "lava" lamps that add a significant amount of flair to the already impressive bar. To the right there appeared to be a "VIP" section that was roped off and occupied by a group of 20 or so people. Two smaller, albeit still huge lava lamps marked the corners of that room. In talking to one of the bartenders later that evening I was told that the room was available for private parties and for those wishing to receive (and pay) for bottle service. Not my scene, but it is a nice option to have for those who want to be secluded. Cont..

Impressive staff/service, great drinks, good prices..Part 2

by BraveNDawgFan2

We made our way to the bar and I noticed that the two bartenders were quickly taking orders and making drinks as fast as they possibly could. Having worked in the service industry throughout and shortly after college, I have no problem waiting a minute or two for a drink if the place is busy...and it was. I was impressed how quickly they managed their areas and manufactured drinks. Moreover, I suspected that the cause of delay was a guy running back and forth working on the computers rebooting and trying to fix the systems. What an inopportune time for repairs or service..

Mike was the first bartender that served us, and I recognized him from years ago and from another establishment in Buckhead. He apologized for the delay, took our orders, got our drinks, started us a tab, and again thanked us for being patient. Given the fact that the computers were down and he was busy doing several things at once, he remembered all 6 of our drinks and even my name for the remainder of the evening. I usually have my reservations about starting a tab and leaving my credit card AND drivers license at a bar, but when I did not have to tell Mike my name the second time I came back it definitely relieved my worries. I am sure he was frustrated with the computer being down and the "techie" guy in his way but he handled his cool professionally and well-mannered. If he was frustrated, I never would have known. Kudos to that. His counterpart, Lauren, also made and served our group a round of shots later in the evening. She was equally as charming and they seem to compliment each other extremely well.

Great bartenders

by lovinlife1971

I always have the best time at Cosmo/Lava. The bartenders are great and friendly and the people that party here are not pretentious like some of the other clubs in the area. My drinks were really good and not overpriced. I will continue to come here again and again.

Great bartenders, Great atmosphere

by PartyPrincess2

The atmoshere is great... great people and great bartenders.. especially Jessey... she took care of me and me entire group of people on the night of my birthday, and when she was busy, Mike stepped in and made sure that we were taken great care of. They are also not over priced like most places. They have awesome music and drinks.... it is by far the place to be on the weekends.

Pros: Great late night place

Cons: Not soo great earlier in the night

If you want a good time, stop here.

by LaughterLover

Whenever I want to go out and have a fun time or I have no idea where I want to go, this is the place I know to go. Great looking people and fun bartenders are the norm here and fun is a non-stop. When friends come in from out of town I always take them here, and they nor I are ever disappointed. I was here for New Year's and it was my best in years!! I also like the fact that the people who go are like me- looking for a great time! Look no further for a great time in Atlanta!

Cons: People

HOT HOT HOT

by kelly182

First time was last saturday night. I had to pay to get in and was worried at first and annoyed at the cover charge, but once inside I went straight to the bar. Was again shocked at the price when I ordered shots but watched as the bartender really hooked us up with strong drinks, so I got what I paid for in the end. They were fast too and didn't have to wait. There is also a huge outside deck which has its own two bars. By the end of the night it was a little crowded but still didn't wait long for drinks. The music is different all over the club and you can pick what kind of night you want to have, I loved the deck and the scene outside. Next weekend I will be there!!! This is a must see bar in Atlanta, cant get better then a club inside and outside deck with great music and hot people, all for one cover charge!!!

Pros: drinks!

Cons: none

The ONLY Ladies Night Bar

by sandy22

GREAT BAR!! I only had to pay $5 to get in on ladies night and then had an awesome time at the club. Its a perfect blend of the club and bar. When I got too hot dancing inside I went out onto the open patio and cooled off by one of their many bars. Plus this was the place to meet people and actually be able to talk on the patio (where the music was not so loud). The patio had great bartenders and I never waited to get a drink. Definitely the new place to go on Friday nights!!!

Pros: the outside patio

Cons: music was too loud inside

2 Clubs in One!!!

by Lydiaaa

Cosmo/lava is a great club scene in Midtown. It's 2 clubs in one...$5 cover gets you in both places. I esp. like Lava...its dark, has cool house music, plus a little alcove upstairs which is really fun. Always crowded w/ 20-somethings on the wkends...this is a great 'last' place of the night to dance and hang out until closing time.

Pros: Great last place of the night

Cons: Can get crowded, have to wait in line sometimes

Great Friday, saturday, and for Special events

by MikeMalkasian

Cosmo / lava is my favorite bar/club in Atlanta. I go there more often than any other place. it has something to offer every type of crowd, and is perfect for when you have out of town guest, and are not sure what they are into. They can chill outside on the Patio, dance on ether dance floor, go in Lava for a classy atmosphere, whatever, it's there. I have a VIP Card. My guests and I get in free, with no line at anytime on any night. You should ask one of the awesome and hot) bartenders (my fav: Lauren, Jessie, or Glen) how to get signed up.

I personally like the main bar at Lava the best, have never had any trouble getting a drink, and always see people I know. As a five year veteran of Midtown Atlanta, I would strongly recommend checking it out.

Pros: VIP Card, No wait for drinks (7-10 Bars throughout), Hot Single Women, Friendly Bartenders

Cons: I have to work M-F at 8AM :(

One of the best all around clubs in Atlanta

by kramerlaw

Lava/Cosmo has a little something for everyone. Outside patios, several dance areas, VIP section, etc. Good crowd, especially Saturday nights -- and very hot bartenders. Pretty good spot to pick up, and it's always a good time. I've been going for years.

6 thumbs down

by jusbeinreal

I guess if you dont mind hassling with bouncers sufferering from little man syndrome, overcrowded areas, and thieves, then you would love this place. That's right...I said THIEVES! It was my first time going and I was not aware that you could not wear baseball caps inside. They offered check my hat in up front and after asking twice, I was reassured that it would be safe and I could come back to get it on my way out. I was wondering why they gave me no ticket. But oh well... no problem! 45-60 minutes later when we were ready to go...you guessed it...they couldnt find my hat. They pretended to look here and look there...to no avail. I asked "so what...im just SOL?"...and a young lady replied "I'm sorry". Are you serious??? I would have to be knocked out and carried in before I ever go back.

Pros: none

Cons: dishonest pushy employees

Love it!

by stacidoesitupbig

I grew up in Georgia but never went out to nightclubs here in Atlanta. When I moved to Vegas last Summer I got spoiled with the amazing nightlife having been back in Atlanta for about one week (yes I am aware that isn't a long time) I have checked out different places and this is probably one of the nicest so far. Also I love the crowd!

Pros: People are good looking, employees friendly, okay music

Choose elsewhere.

by crunchyj

I'm one to give businesses at least one try, and after three exceptionally disappointing experiences at Cosmo/Lava, I have vowed never to return. Here's some basic math: 1) I'm out $30 for a self-indulgent velvet-rope charade conducted by exceedingly rude bouncers and equally unclassy cover-charge cashiers; 2) Likely, I'm out less money spent on cocktails, as I preferred not to achieve retirement age while waiting for a vodka tonic; and 3) I arrived at zero in my tolerance for some of the clientele there, around whom you should tread carefully lest you want to be groped on the dance floor or shoved aside as they clear a path for their next drink (happy waiting). There are so many other restaurants and bars in the neighboring area to try--ones that don't have to pretend to be reputable and worth your time and money. Enjoy Midtown, but definitely skip Cosmo/Lava on your tour.

Pros: It's better than walking over hot coals.

Cons: Rude staff, more difficult to get a drink than pass the Bar Exam without studying, cover charge unnecessary given your return on investment

No drinks for you!

by tg30308

Expensive drinks, boring crowd, rude staff...yeah - i'll be back! NOT! Showed up relatively early in the evening and had to wait at the door. Why? Not be cause it was crowded, but because they wanted to give off the impression that there were actually people inside. Okay, so we got in after 10 minutes waiting - 20 minutes later - we had our drinks (now that's what i call prompt service). So after one round, we asked for our check. Unfortunately, we were unaware of how rude it was to only have one round of drinks when service is slow. Maybe they'll clean up their act, but I won't be back to find out.

Pros: I spent got out for under 10 bucks

Cons: Service was so bad I only had the opportunity to spend $10. Bar was empty, and staff was rude!

higher end bar and small dancing

by auxie

i like this place a lot! there is a VIP room up top with good dancing, but small dancefloor. there is the main level with the bar which is a great place to meet people and there is a bigger dancefloor on the bottom and everyone dances. what is really cool about this place is that they share a huge deck with Lava which means a ton more people!

Pros: always a good crowd!

Cons: cover charge!

RUDE!

by burgertroid

Been there twice. The second time the bartender refused to give our designated driver a glass of water, stating "I do not have time for water". We asked for the manager and she stood behind her rude employee and was equally as rude. We offered to pay for water and we were still refused. I will not go back! I e-mailed them to complain and have not heard back.

Pros: crowded

Cons: terrible service, rude and expensive

Oh so fun!

by heather_green

The first time I ever saw this place I was impressed. This is a great place to chill, enjoy the skylights in the upper lever, hang out on the balcony, or get your groove on the dance floor. Lava is awesome! The lights, drinks, and djs are unbelievable. Don't let the outside fool you because once you step inside you'll be amazed. I have to say the first time I went, there was a much classier blend of people than when I came the second time. It was about a month and a half apart. Don't know what is up with that. Good drinks, great dj's and some nice eye candy for the ladies!

Pros: Drinks, Inexpensive

Cons: Hard to find

Best place in Midtown-hands down!

by jigglesatl

First, I just can't believe I payed one cover for two clubs. In Midtown, I usually pay twice the price (Lava and Cosmopolitan charged a combined price of $10)at the other clubs. It was a great looking crowd, but didn't feel as snooty as other places I have been. The DJ's played a great mix of pop,hip-hop and house music. The back deck was the perfect place to chill after dancing. Then I walked into Lava (it's connected to it) and there were 3 more levels. The dancefloor was packed so I mainly hung out upstairs in the VIP which is perfect for lounging around on the couches with friends. Overall,I'd say it was the best experience I've had going out in a while and my friends loved it as well. We thought the staff was friendly, especially in the basement. We plan on making this one of our usual spots to go.

Pros: one cover, diff.djs all over, VIP room

Cons: slightly crowded

Pretentious Waste

by jetpilot

What a disappointment! Walking in the door, you're immediately charged $10 cover, and drinks are no bargain. The crowd was among the most shallow I've had the displeasure of speaking with. Adding to the problems, the bartenders and bouncers are rude and obnoxious. I've grown to expect many of these problems in Midtown, but Cosmopolitan has taken it too far. This is all unfortunate, as the place seems great at first.

Pros: Nice Bar

Cons: Expensive, Shallow People, Obnoxious Staff

What a change!

by lotus_girl

Coming from a college town to Atlanta, I was so refreshed to find Cosmo/Lava. I actually left the place NOT reeking of smoke. Both clubs had great music, very relaxed atmosphere, upscale. This is not a meat market.. .this is a great place to chill with your friends and just stand around if you feel like it.

Pros: two clubs in one, upscale, relaxed

Cons: crowded

by bda4au

We always have a blast when we go to Cosmo, especially when they have the doors open to Lava next door. It's such an upscale good-looking croud. We always dress nice when we go, but last week we noticed lots of people in jeans too. It's great to just hanging out on the outside balcony and the dancing inside is not too shabby either. Well worth the $10 w/e cover.

Pros: good croud, outside balcony, hot men

Cons: parking, $10 cover, long bathroom line

Buckhead invasion

by prettygirl7

If I wanted to be shoulder-to-shoulder with cheesy Buckhead types, I'd drive north. I don't know who told those losers about this place, but they should be shot. If you're looking for a relaxed, non-pretentious good time, go a block over to Leopard. This place used to great... I guess as with all good things, it must come to an end. One good thing... the bartenders are still great! The DJ could use some improvement though!

Pros: patio, great bartenders

Cons: over crowded
