This place is gold.
I've eaten sushi in Japan, Korea, LA, SF, NY and in many other sushi savvy places and TAKA tops them all.
Price and Friendliness are more than ideal.
But Taste and Flavor take top honors.
Try the tuna tartar appetizer, the yellowtail special roll, the super crunch roll, CNN roll, the tomago, the Unagi, the fried calamari... the fried banana ice cream. There are very few misses, if any.
Thanks TAKA!

This is the best sushi out there. Its not the most trendy place around. But you will know it??s the best for three reasons.
1.The food is great tasting. ( I am a big fan of sushi and have tried almost everything there is in the Atlanta area).
2.The restaurant is always full, no matter what day of the week? which means very fresh ingredients? very important when you eat raw fish.
3.Even though its not trendy, in the parking lot you will see plenty of luxurious cars.

Oh and the service is great!

The evening started out with an accident, but the waiter, the hostess, the colleagues, the chef, everyone on staff ... all made it up to me. For years, I have been visiting Taka and enjoying the wonderful culinary delights they offer, but tonight ... their hearts and their service were shining through. The evening was just perfect, even with the opps (wine spill).
I cannot encourage you enough to visit Taka for the culinary experience, the cultural experience, and the experience of superb service!

I grew up in Los Angeles but have lived in Hawaii, Seattle and am well travelled so am very picky when it comes to good sushi. Taka is as good if not better than any sushi place I have been to in the world. All of the fish is so fresh it melts in your mouth. The rolls are great but I don't fill up on them as the sashimi is so amazing. The toro hand rolls are the exception and i order one every time I go. I recommend sitting at the sushi bar and letting Taka order for you, he will never steer you wrong. The rotating selection of soups are all amazing. The "Healthy Body" vegetable soup is just the right amount of spicy with perfectly layered flavors. Taka, the other sushi chefs and the wait staff are all so friendly and attentive and are happy to make recommendations on food or Saki. I have never found any bad Saki on the extensive list that is organized by distilling style (I personally love any of the unfiltered Sakis). The deserts are also great with the chocolate mousse a particular highlight. The prices are reasonable for high quality sushi and are cheaper than a lot of the so-called high-end sushi places in Buckhead. The name, Taka Sushi & Passion says it all...you can feel Taka's passion for sushi in each delectable bite!

I only wish I didn't live accross the street because my 2-3 times a week sushi habbit is eating into my bank account.

Attention all sushi lovers, Taka is officially the best sushi in Atlanta. By far the freshest, best quality fish and perfectly prepared. Best appetizer is the Hamachi Kama (tuna collar). Only downside is they run out pretty quickly so I would suggest getting there early to ensure you get it. Good selection and variety of rolls but this is definitely more of a real sushi lovers place so be aware that their focus lies more on the sushi and sashimi. Prices are excellent for the quality of fish you are receiving. Limited seating so I suggest reservations. This is now the only place I will go in Atlanta. Nothing else compares.

Cons: Absolutely none!

Taka consistently has the freshest fish in Atlanta. I have been going to Taka's for 2 .5 years, almost every month. I have tried other restaurants, but none are as creative nor is the staff as friendly and attentive. Everyone that I have brought to the restaurant has become an immediate fan of the quality of fish and the experience. I would highly recommend coming to Taka's and experiencing The Best!

Taka is an absolute NOTZEE over the quality of his product! (The website wouldn't let me spell the capitalized word correctly) I spent many years in the upper scale food service industry and understand food quality. On Friday or Saturday nights the staff on the floor is sometimes spread thin. It honestly has little to no impact on my experience given the mastery of Taka's creations. The Uni ravioli is purely devine! Sea urchin wrapped in sea scallop finished with an exotic vinegarete. It's a mystery to how he always has the highest grade tuna available. Toro, chu-toro, o-toro! OH MY! While my wife and I live for the nigiri and sashimi, we can always bring friends who may not be as passionate or versed in sushi. Our guests always find lavish delight in the inspired roll selection and even cooked choices. Bring family, friends, or business clients with confidence. It sure beats the stuffy Buckhead alternatives and shows you have your finger on the pulse of the city. There isn't a sushi joint around Atlanta that compares if quality is concerned. If you shop at Win-Dixie you'll probably be happy with the other places intown. But for those who enjoy Whole Foods, Taka's is the only choice.

Pros: Intimate, friendly, inspired food, Impecable quality

Cons: Limited sushi bar seating

I love it at Taka. The sushi is among the best I've had and the service is quick and friendly. The environment is modest (not uber trendy like you'd find at Fune) but it gets the job done in an inoffensive manner!

Taka has, by far, the best and freshest sushi in Atlanta bar none. If you are looking for great sushi then look no further as this is the place to go. The only negative about the place, and for some people it would not be much of a negative, is the fact that it is a small, plain restaurant without any glitz.. When you pay the bill at the end of the night you are definitely paying for the great meal and not any of the extra stuff that other restaraunts give you like a DJ playing music or a very expensive conveyor belt. If you are looking for a hip place to lounge at than this is probably not the place. But if you are looking for a wonderful culinary experience than you should definitely give Taka a try because you won't find anything better, this is what sushi is supposed to taste like.

Recently went to Taka based on a recomendation that it was the best sushi in Atlanta. We found it to be quite good. They have an excellent assortment of specialty rolls. For the more commonly named ones - like spicy tuna - they have added their own derivation to the usual make up. We really enjoyed everything we ordered, including the fried banana dessert. Also - we sat outside in their little courtyard which was quite nice. The prices were low given the quality of food. We will definitely go back here before going back to MF.

I finally had a chance to try Taka after it re-opened with my wife. We have been back 3 times since. The Sashimi platter is great to share and the fish is soooo fresh. We have been to numerous sushi places around Atlanta, since we moved here 2 years ago, and we have to say, by far, this is the best place. We do not believe the rolls are up to par, since the rice was a little hard, and not flavored correctly. Perhaps it was a one night mistake on the sushi rice, but why eat the fish with rice, when the fish is so amazing anyways.

GREAT PLACE TO EAT. If your date isn't into sashimi, nighiri, or the rolls, don't bring them here, since the menu is not that comprehensive in other items. A litte expensive, but I would pay a little more for great fresh sushi than have stomach pains the next day with bad fish.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Given the Rating on Citysearch, my wife and I wanted to try this restaurant known for its sushi. However, when we arrived, it was abandoned. There was a sign on the window that basically said everything had been sold because the owner failed to pay around $13,500 in taxes.

Really would have liked to try it. Too bad.

I'm sorry but I disagree with the previous commentator. I have been going to this place since it has opened and it is still the best place for sushi. I have noticed that TAKA is not there any longer but the fish quality and taste is the same if not better. The appetizers, rolls, and nigiri were all very tasty and of great quality. There is a new Japanese sushi guy there who is very friendly and easy to talk to. The service was excellent and the hostess was wonderful as well. She is always friendly and helpful, and since I come there often with my family I know that she is not just "the hostess." Whether the head chef TAKA is there or not the food taste and service remains consistent....which in my mind is what a great restaurant should be!

Lobster Salad on Flounder Sashimi, Shrimp Spring Roll with Honey Lime Mayonnaise, Tai Sashimi Salad (red snapper), Copacabana Roll (scallop and mango), Snow Crab 100 Roll --- all were top notch. Tuna Tartare was nice, but I think it was not to our taste.

Nigiri - Live Scallop ($9/2pc), Blue Fin ($14/2pc). The price surprised me a little, but these were the specials and we had no complaints about the taste. Yum. All the prices seemed to be in line with a Buckhead sushi restaurant.

Service at the table was very attentive and either server would easily come to refresh our drinks or take plates if they saw something was needed.

My only complaint was that I had to wait ten minutes to get into the ladies room because the hostess was chatting it up on her cell phone in there. I discovered this after waiting several minutes. I knocked because I wasn't sure anyone would be in there quite so long. She popped open the door, looked at me, then said, "Oh. Sorry." Phone to her left ear. She then closed the door in my face and continued her conversation. I waited longer, then gave up and returned to my table. I thought she was a customer, but discovered when she came out *finally* that she was the hostess.

I've dined in at least 2-3 dozen sushi restaurants and may have found a new favorite. Creative combinations and the freshest I've tasted outside of an oceanfront location. We'll give it another try and hope that the hostess can conduct her lengthy personal conversations somewhere other than the ladies restroom.

This place is tucked away in Buckhead and you would never find it unless you were looking for it. The sushi was great! Some of the best I have had in a long time. I was not prepared for the prices, but it was worth it. The service was fair. We had to wait a while for our check to be delivered. Other than that, it was a good dining experience. I would go again.

I am a native NY'er. I do not usually eat rolls but went here when visiting a friend. Taka (named after the owner) is a culinary master. These rolls are delicious! Jamie is a terrific hostess. All the rolls can add up ($) but nothing more outrageous than NY prices. If you are are on a business expense account - you are SO LUCKY!

I've visited lots of great sushi places, and I am pleased to say that one of my favorites is right here in Atlanta, only Hump in Santa Monica ties. If they have it, try the blue fin. It was wonderful. The presentation is elegant, and the rolls are beautiful. I can not believe how many places are able to hawk poor quality cuts in Atlanta, but rest assured that Taka is real and really good!

Taka must be straight from LA, because it's the best sushi place in Atlanta! I've loved everything I tried there except for the eel, but that's probably my fault rather than takas. The presentation was nice - elegant. Service was wonderful; I felt like a guest in someone's house. I'll be going back.

If you come though, please leave your kids at home! They disrupt the atmosphere!

W O N D E R F U L fish! The toro melted in my mouth. The cuts are just perfect; there is no reason to have anything but the nigori sashimi, but my date loved the rolls. Definitely try the green tea ice cream. The place is quaint, and I thought romantic. It's quiet and enjoyable, understated in a tasteful sort of Japanese way. Definitely put this on your list when you want a place that artfully displays their wonderful creations!

I love this restaurant. If I'm in the mood for sushi, no place compares to Taka's. His is one of the few places I don't gag on my sushi because it's too big. Taka comes up with creative specials, although I love my usual dishes and have only tried the specials a couple of times - they were delicious! Flounder w/lobster salad appetizer is to die for. Grilled yellow-tail was so flavorful! Of course, don't forget to order the toro since he seems to be the only person in town that carries it - even though all the other places have it on their menu, it never seems to be in stock. Yes, the decor could use some sprucing up (along w/the desert menu), but I'm there for the food. If you've been to Japan you will know, simplicity is best.

ALthough I could have done without the parents toting their kids in, it was EXCELLENT. I recommend going later in the evening if you want to avoid the children. The chefs did an incredible job on all of the rolls. I also hear that Taka never keeps any of the fish over a day - that is why it is so FRESH!! My favorite - the salmon crunch roll! Service was great - it ws a full house, but food came promptly.

I like Taka. The place is a little devoid of ambience but the food is very good if you know what to order. For all those who dislike him, I urge you to venture beyond the americanized maki rolls and tuna nigiri which pay his utility bills. His menu and kitchen have far more interesting items which are just as good as the top sushi in the nation. The hamachi kama (a grilled yellowtail head) and sea urchin custard are amazing. His fish is always fresh and the service always attentive and cheerful. I am thankful to have quality so close by.

Taka is a nice lil' spot in buckhead. But I don't think it's worth a top rating. If you like more "americanized" sushi, this is probably the place for you. ....... The tuna and salmon sashimi are very good, everything else is pretty average.

Taka is a nice lil' spot in buckhead. But I don't think it's worth a top rating. If you like more "americanized" sushi, this is probably the place for you. ....... The tuna and salmon sashimi are very good, everything else is pretty average.

Pros: Inexpensive, cozy, good tuna sashimi

Cons: sushi choices

.

The nigiri was sliced rather small. It was still good. They are a little skimpy on the wasabi, so if you like this a lot simply request more. The ginger slices could be smaller, they were a little long and they didn't give out enough of this either.

It was a really good dinner at Taka. First of all, FREE PARKING was good for us and they have nice patio. We had a couple of appetizer and sushi.
Oh my god, Red snapper sashimi salad. The dressing is phenomenal. I asked the waitress what's in it. Taka use almost 10 ingredients for that dressing. Sushi was good and they have a lot of unique rolls. Thanks,TAKA. We will be back.

I love tuna. No more than tuna.
I never failed at Taka. They have excellent tuna all the time. If it is bad, they say that don't buy.
I like sashimi and they serve tuna with special soy sauce. This is really good. This is my heaven.
Thanks. Taka.

I had very tender toro first time at taka. It was almost like butter. The price was a little high but no matter. This place has a lot of fun rolls and very creative.

I go to Taka every month with fmy riends. They cahnged the color of wall and got new decor.
It was kind of dark blue before. And now, spring blue is there. Food is always good and very creative menu. I really like enjoying Taka's Japanese food. One of my friend doesn't eat sushi or raw fish and there is no problem. he tried Japanese pizza, okonomayaki or something like that. That's yummy. We are looking forward to see next menu. Thanks Taka.

Very creative sushi choices and friendly service. Sadly, the blue walls and plastic fish decor is more tacky than trendy. Still, if you're just coming for the fish, its fresh and delicious.

My wife and I have eaten at over 80 different Japanese restaurents worldwide. Taka clearly stands out as one of the best. Great quality, and very innovative. The Copa Cabana rolls are out of this world (Mango and Scallops, unusual and fantastic combination).
Service is top notch and very personable, interior is not too formal, nor as casual as a the typical Japanese. Overal relaxing and excellent food.

Interesting and unique menu options that change often. The menu changes regularly, and the fish is extremely fresh. It is pretty expensive though.

This was by far one of the best dining experiences that I have ever had. It doesn't get any better than this. The quality of Chef Taka's food was incredible. This is sushi and japanese fusion at its finest. Exceptional food and impeccable service in a quaint atmosphere. It doesn't get any better than this!

I went there thanks to an article that I am still trying to find out who wrote it. It is probably the worst sushi restaurant I have been in Atlanta. Don't waste your time and money!!

While there was nothing wrong with the food I had, it didn't hold up against other top-notch sushi places (won't name names, but one nearby and one in Gwinnett).

Prices were fine but the service was WAY TOO overbearing down to calling me Mr. C. as if I were an old friend. I'm just there for a meal, not to buy a car. IF I become a regular, then I'm comfortable with using my last name.

I didn't want alcohol, but they didn't offer good green tea like both mid-grade and top-notch sushi restaurants all over town, but leaf tea in a bag. I was a little surprised by this.

It seems this restaurant is trying too hard and is attempting to be something that sushi fanatics really don't want.
