I have had the experience as a parent of having my boys attend martial arts classes from two other schools. AMAI in Loganville far outshines the other two. I am so impressed with the instructors Mr. Brown and Mr. Parr. At each class I see that they pay attention to each student. They correct technique and form at every step. They are encouraging but at the same time let each student know what they can do to improve. Not only that but they teach each student in a way that works for that student. Sometimes they show the student with their own form and technique, sometimes they physically place the student in the correct form. No matter what I have always seen that they are respectful to the student. When the student fixes the form or technique the instructors acknowledge the correction has been made. The belt testing is taken seriously and there is no guarantee that a student will move up to the next belt. I have seen several students not make the next belt because they were just not ready. This type of attention to detail, respectfulness toward the students, expectation that the student perform to a high standard and a general kindness toward everyone is just what I want in a martial arts school for my children. We really could not be more pleased.

My son has been attending AMAI now for a little over a year and it has been a tremendous experience for him and our family. The instructors are GREAT and highly skilled. Having attended a number of martial arts schools of several disciplines myself over the years, I have found these guys to be top notch in all aspects of what they do. In regards to the poster below who complains about "deceptive" business practices, that has certainy not been my experience. When we signed up, we sat down and discussed options and costs very frankly and I have had nothing but positive experiences on that end. Anyone who believes this is a "belt factory" is simply not paying attention. To assert that these instructors don't care is ridiculous. I have personally watched Mr. Brown counsel numerous students regarding behavior at home and school. I have personally watched Mr. Brown, Mr. Parr, Mr. Sutherlin and Mr. Garner work with special needs kids to build thier confidence and self esteem. Mr. Sutherlin drove 60 miles and paid out of his own pocket to attend my son's first karate tournament when nobody expected it. He didn't do it because he didn't care! When my son didn't win, it was Mr. Sutherlin who consoled him and worked with him to make him better. It is Mr. Garner and his staff who offer FREE ladies and kids self defense classes. It was Mr. Garner, Mr. Daltro and Mr. Thompkins who trained our local police for FREE, with no publicity and for no other reason than they care about their community. I pay for my son to be there... I pay for extra classes... I pay for additional equipment...I understand this is their business and what they do to support their families and I have ALWAYS gotten my money's worth!

You get what you pay for at AMAI Karate :) My kids and I have been taking classes at AMAI for the last six years in Loganville. The instructors and staff are awesome and truly care about me and my family. Mr. Brown, Mr. Garner and Mr. Parr have tremendous skills and teach my children self discipline, encourage them when they need it, and detailed karate techniques...among other things. The staff has always been open to suggestions from parents if they have concerns about anything. We consider AMAI our second home and love taking karate there!

I am shocked with those comments. Why anyone would write such harsh things. My son is a proof of how great influence AMAI has on kids with attention disorders.. I took him to his annual physical yesterday and his doctor told him it has been a pleasure watch him grow and become the young man that he is now. After all the struggles we had in the past due to his ADHD, he is very well behaved and loves to help others. I Praise God for people like our instructors that care for our children!!!

AMAI has been one of the best things that I have done for my child and I highly recommend them. I signed up my son 2 years ago in their aftercare/camp program after a horrible summer camp experience at a local daycare. Not only has my child achieved two years of Principal's Honor Roll he has also grown to adopt the black belt mentality in all aspects of his life. He rarely gives me behavioral problems at home and he looks up to all the instructors there in the highest regards. When it comes to the instructors and staff, they are the best. They genuinely care about all the kids there and exert the perfect combination of discipline and encouragement. I give kudos to Mr. Brown for going above and beyond with my son the last few weeks and working with him to develop self confidence techniques.

My family and I are longtime members of this school, and we love it! We signed up our oldest two sons a few years ago when they were just 3 and 5 years old. My husband and I joined shortly thereafter, and now the whole family is involved in some way with this school. The instructors are all amazing! They teach discipline and respect in a way that is fun! I would follow these instructors anywhere, that is how amazing they are. The school has great fundamentals and a great vision. I can't imagine learning martial arts from another school. And, I can't say enough about the instructors or the school. Give it a try! You won't be disappointed!

My child attended the Camp Super Stars to do all the exciting things listed on the brochure. We were even planning to have him do the after-school program once the school year started. We could not have been more disaapointed. The camp claimed to help kids become "bully proof" but instead turned a blind eye to bullying. Bigger, older children were literally allowed to take my child's money and belongings from him and refused to help when my child told adult directors that other children were taking his things. We were told we would not be charged for the final week of camp since we pulled him out of the program, however, we were charged for that final week, and it has taken over two weeks to get our money back.

I lost 30lbs at AMAI Karate! I have been studying Martial Arts for 20 years and have never really enjoyed the overall "Gym" experience. However I have joined Loganville Family Fitness three months ago and was introduced to a Black Belt trainer there (Brian Thompkins) who also teaches at AMAI Karate here in Loganville and I haven't looked back. The workouts are all martial art related and I've dropped 30 lbs, gained plenty of muscles (some i never knew I had) :-) and have dropped my body fat percentage to under 10%. Not to mention gaining some real skills. I'm impressed with everyone's work ethic as they strive to be more than a martial arts school. I've seen 100's of schools across the country and I have to say that I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. If you want a great atmosphere, a great place for your family, or simply want to work your butt off. Give them a call. AMAI ROCKS!

My name is Don , and my grandson Nathan has attended The American Martial Art Institute since May of 2008. Nathan was a very high strung extremely active 7 year old. Because of this, my wife and I decided to take him out of public school and home school him. It just didn't seem fair to the other students in class when he would constantly act out and disrupt the class. Even at home, Nathan was disruptive and hard to keep on task. One day, I noticed an ad for the American Martial Art Institute. The ad explained how the focus of the school was not to just build "Black Belts", but to build "Black Belt Excellence " in all phases of life. This included excellence in school, self control and discipline. I took Nathan to a school tournament followed by a introductory lesson. Nathan was "Jazzed" from the word go. From the beginning of his introductory lesson where he was taught that you always show respect to adults by saying "Sir and Mam" to the realization that a Great Martial Artist is not only sound physically but also mentally (you must have a minimum of all B"s on your report card to test for your Black Belt) Nathan became more focused. We signed Nathan up in May of 2008,and many changes have occurred. Nathan returned to public school this past year, and I am proud to say that his last report card contained nothing but B's. (Nathan now says that he is better than that and is working on all A's). Besides doing so much better in school, Nathan is also becoming a polite, courteous, respectful young man. This has not been an easy task, and is still a work in progress. I believe these changes are a result of not only hard work at home, but primarily due to the positive role model instructors at AMAI. To not only Nathan, but to every child taking classes, Mr. Brown (head instructor at AMAI) is a HERO. His teaching skills are second to none, he is stern when the situation dictates it, but also caring and shows his love for the students every day. I am so glad that I chose the American Martial Art Institute as my grandson's Karate school, and for the changes that I have seen in my grandson and the changes I know are still to come, I say "Thank you, Sir"

Our family goal was to find a way to keep our anger in check. My son, 9, has had a difficult time at school because the coping skills we had taught him weren't working. After working with Mr. Garner, Mr. Brown and the other instructors, he hasn't had an angry outburst at school since last October and has even found the strength to walk away from fights, both physical and verbal. When his teacher and I had our parent/teacher conference I was surprised to find out that when she talked to him about his attitude changes, he actually told her "Common sense before self defense". I am so proud of the the work that these instructors have done and do reccomend this Karate school to everyone I meet.

Training is top notch, my son started Aug, 2008. After watching him for a few months I decided that I wanted to join. Started through a trial program back in Nov. 2008,signed my son up for the black belt course. Early in April, my trial membership was getting ready to expire, I really didn't think that I would be able to continue financially. Karate has been such a positive influence on myself and on my son, that I wanted to continue my own journey toward black belt. I recently joined the Master's program. My own story includes myself and my son developing healthy habits, like exercising and jogging at home. I also am trying to quit my tobacco habit (very, very, difficult). I now go to the gym 4 times a week and on average run 6 miles and use the resistance machines. Thank you MMA Karate for focusing me towards a positive lifestyle change

I completely disagree with that other lady's comment. We have two children enrolled and my husband. We have been taking there for about 15 months and have nothing bad to say. They are not the cheapest in town but I have looked at every single other karate school and they had the best instructors and the cleanest school. I would give them a "10" on professionalism. They did change names at the end of last year (to A.M.A.I. Karate) and I feel that was the best thing they could have done. I am even happier with the changes that Mr. Garner has made. I recommend checking them out. I did go to other schools before I signed my children up. I would suggest you do the same. Don't just take one persons word for it.

I didnt like the staff here, or the atmosphere. The children were undisciplined, running in circles and yelling.

One of the reasons to study karate is for the discipline it requires!

For a business, it was very unprofessional and a waste of money! I wouldnt recommend U.M.A.S. Karate Studios in Loganville, GA. You can positively fine a better school, which will require discipline at all times.
