Coffee is a extra that I cant live without, there are a lot of coffee makers out there, but this shop hits the coffee bone so hard.

Definitely not going back. The seating area was very overcrowded almost as if people were sitting on top of each other. I was there for an hour and a half. The waitress Ellie had only take one drink order and an hour after I didn't see her

I have never eaten here but i love there teas! and I don't even drink tea at home.I also enjoy their cheescakes, the place have a very cozy decor, it's slammed everytime I go, perfect for date night with your husband or dessert after movie night. I have never had to wait which is surprising as it's always busy! I can't review the food but based on decor, desserts, drinks and service it gets 5 stars from me.

I loved the taste of their food and their coffee selection. Everything was flavorful. The quality of service clearly complements the excellence of the food. I was definitely pleased when I left the place.

Maybe it was because I was just at Brio and had to rush through a lunch (due to an upcoming meeting) where my service was absolutely fantastic ... but I got to Cafe Intermezzo for said meeting and it felt like everything moved in slow motion. I was the ONLY PERSON on the bar side of the restaurant. Servers passed by every 5 minutes, talking amongst themselves while I waited for what seemed like an eternity just to get a water and finally place my order. Maybe my server had the entire back patio or something to serve, but at 2:30pm on a Sunday afternoon, where the bar staff out-numbered the people there... I just expected a little bit more. For no reason should I be tapping my fingers waiting on service when there isn't anyone there. I'll always recommend (and go myself) this little coffee gem, but I walked out incredibly annoyed. And after being a patron for some 10 years, I never thought I'd say that.

Went this Sunday afternoon place was nearly empty, explain to me why we could not get a waitperson to attend to us...

Service was horrible, like I said I guess water is expensive an dthe ice must be gold.

Food was average at best

Even to cash out was time consuming

Thank You is not a term any of the staff know how to use. I guess customers bother them..

Don't waste your time or money here

Always rude staff, always slow service. It's as if management trains them to be rude to their customers.
Tonight, my wife and I were having coffee on the empty patio and moved to sit near a fireplace. We were told by two different waitresses that two people can't sit at a six-top, even though there was no one else there.
I don't know why we keep going back, but after tonight, we will never return.

Went for lunch with a friend and the food was ok. Salads are very small. The dessers are another issue; they are fabulous. They have a large assortment. I say skip the meal and have cake.

Cafe Intermezzo used to be a great place to eat and have drinks with friends. Both the variety and the quality of the food seems to have decreased in the last couple of years. Service was never great except from the occasional GaTech waitress who didn't know she didn't have to care about the customers. Desserts are still an attraction, but believe it or not the service has gotten worse. On our last visit (and I mean last), our meals arrived at different times, the wine came after everyone was finished eating, and except for the obilgatory delivery of the order, we never saw our waitress again until she brought the check. Sorry to lose what used to be a nice place, but the negative reviews are closer to the truth.

I've lived in the Brookwood neighborhood the past eight years, and always take out of town guests to Cafe Intermezzo, for a late night coffee and dessert. I'm quite distrubed by a posting below, from a disgruntled former emplyee, SixF15Bear. It's the only review by this person, when you log-on their name. And I have written dozens of truthful reviews. The cafe is always packed after 10:00pm. So it's the lively place to be, and they have managed to hold their prices, even with this economy. I've personally met the owner, Brian Wilson, and what a caring, charming person he is. He welcomes everyone personally. The desserts are fantastic. And the selection is huge. We ordered a mammoth hot chocolate w/Nutella, with our dessert, and we were in heaven. Love the international music. Nothing else in Atlanta like this.

Pros: Great Desserts/Coffee, Cool International Music & Personal Manager!

Cons: Gets Super Crowded Late At Night!

NOTE: Suspiciously glowing 5- & 4-star reviews routinely bump off of the facing page truthful 1-star reviews. Comments such as "super clean" & "doesn't get any better" owner/manager attention are absolute LOL nonsense!

*2008 SUMMARY*: SURLY & LAZY waitrons; mine, an angry Eastern-European wage slave fresh off the boat. 2008 PRICE INCREASES on already-OVERPRICED, often CHILD-SIZE-PORTION bar/cafe drinks/desserts/snacks: You know, those oddball, tall-and-narrow, 6-ounce glasses filled with ice and 1 squirt of no-free-refills, not-even-alcoholic liquid (however, at $3.19, the six-ounce iced tea qualifies for free refills, but that's assuming your waitron ever reappears)...coupled with a plated $10+ handful of pasta...and an $8.48, 6-inch-length by 2.5-inch-arc of STALE-tasting dessert pie (last year, same item tasted thawed-from-frozen fresh). DIRTY, BLOWER/NO-PAPER-TOWEL BATHROOMS (for you and the ones who handle your drinks & food) are an owner specialty; filth on the unwashed, dirty-grout walls has been there a decade. (Note: Dessert & iced-tea prices include 8% tax.)

*SUMMARY OF MY 2007 REVIEW*: Listen to the SHILLS talk up this place! POORLY executed great concept; ATL's backward Southerners offer no similar 365-day/wee-hr spot that's not a drunk-filled diner. Saw R0ACHES there 3x in 2006. Waitrons SURLY/LAZY. Custs bailed, place usually dead. Owners lost $, so MIN DONE to fix things. Fix brings it back to history as MINIMALLY HOUSEKEPT, OVERPRICED bar/cafe w/tasty desserts ($7.50/slice); tiny, overpriced meals ($10/HANDFUL of PENNE & 2 thin slices of Amer-Ital bread, upcharges for more slices); big coffee/non-alcoholic/drink menu. BATHROOMS DIRTY: Decades-filthy walls; TINY-BOWL sink (can't fit both hands under faucet); no towels; seldom filled soap dispenser & cheapest-grade TP. SINK'S WATER FLOW TURNED DOWN: Save $, encourage help/patrons not to wash! A caring restaurateur should copy theme & BURY THEM w/CLEAN, EXCELLENT SERVICE & NON-GOUGE PRICES!

I guess I first became a fan of Cafe Intermezzo back in the early eighties, when a friend took me to Park Place. And having lived in Brookwood/S.Buckhead the last few years, I would only run in, and get one of those out of the world desserts to go, at the Peachtree location. But last week, a friend and myself decided to stop in for dinner. What a charming little cafe menu, and at very affordable prices. We shared an app. of Baked Baby Brie with almonds and served with a raisin-walnut bread and apple slices. Absolutely delicious, and was followed by a lucious Greek Salad for two, with Romaine hearts, tomatoes, Kalamata olives, red onions, and served with fresh French Bread. Before our entree's arrived, the General Manager, Michael May, stopped by our table to see if everything was going well. Normally you don't see management that early in the evening, but his warm hospitality only previewed the wonderful entrees on the way. For me, it was the Linguine Alfredo w/Grilled Chicken, and my date had the Italian Gnocchi, with mushrooms in a lemon-rosemary cream sauce, topped with parmesan cheese. It was all wonderful, and those prices. No wonder so many young couples were dining, at these affordable levels.. Of course the ending was the best. I had the moist Chocolate Almond Cake w/Marzipan filling. My date had the Bosco, a torte made with assorted fresh berries and a custard filling. And we both had expresso from the beautiful Cafe Intermezzo Expresso Machine, designed and commissioned by Brian Olson, the owner. And Mr.Olson, himself, personally stopped by the table, to make sure we had a most enjoyable experience. If you want to experience an Atlanta tradition, come here. It dosen't get any better.

I went this past weekend with my girlfriend based upon recommendations from friends. Being a chef, I am overtly critical of food and service and I will have to agree with some of the points of other reviewers. We ordered a watermelon salad(small but tasty), a small caesar(small, bottled dressing it seemed, no croutons, no parm), a shrimp scampi crepe (elastic crepe, obviously bought in, rubber shrimp, no seasoning...saying that, put salt and pepper on the table so I don't have to offend by asking for it), two cocktails(decent, but did I just pay for a bottle of that champagne?), a spanish coffee(excellent), and a cheesecake(good, but homemade? noooo.) Bill comes, I cough. Expensive. I've eaten better for less. We went early, service was good. Next day we stopped in for an after-movie drink. Sat at the bar and heard way too much from the servers up front(what'd you eat today, wanna play, haha, your mom, etc..) Not professional at all. My girlfriend ordered the same drink but different taste--I noticed the bartender pull out the same opened bottle of champagne(most likely from the night before..but didn't we already pay for that). Regardless, good company excuses a lot, so if you want decent drinks, get your friends together and try it, just don't look at the bill.

Cons: Price is unreasonable for the result

Usually I have the spicy tortellini and a slice cake after long night at work. I usually have a good time. The last time I went there, it took forever, on this non-busy night, for someone to serve me my bottled water. It took even longer for someone to take my entree order. so, while I'm waiting for someone to serve me, I notice something moving across the floor. I tried not to look because i did not want my night ruined even more than it already had been. I just had to look once again and it was a rather LARGE INSECT walking across the floor, Not only did a waitress see it, she stepped over it like there was nothing there. GROSS!!!!!!!!!! So i got up and left, but before I left the hostess asked why I was leaving so early and I told her there was a CRITTER walking across the floor. Nobody seemed to care... It's a shame.

I have been there off and on over the years. Their desserts are great. Recently I ordered a cheese plate and they brought out what looked like a Publix deli tray with chunks of white and yellow cheese. I expected a little better from Intermezzo. I looked at my date and she laughed. It has some grapes on the plate too. I nibbled one of the yellow ones and it was like Reagan free cheese, velveta, American cheese, and the white was like, white American cheese. I called the waiter over and said just take it back. He said I would have to pay for part of it since I tasted a bit of one of the white pieces and one of the yellow pieces. I told him that I also tried to eat a grape but they were sour. I pointed to the bit that I had taken back out of my mouth and had place on the plate. Long story short, they manager argued for a while, then submitted. As we were leaving, later, I went back to find the manager to thank him, yes somewhat sarcastically for having take the cheese plate off of the tab. He was in the office. One of the waiters said that the "Guy with the cheese plate wants you." I was standing right there outside the office door. The manager said, "What does that MF want now." (He did not use the initials.) He was face to face with me when he finished the sentence. I thanks him and have not been back.

I have never written a review before but after seeing first hand what so many people have written here, I felt compelled to share my experiences and opinion. Cafe Intermezzo is well known around Atlanta for it's poor service but we keep coming back for the great drinks and desserts, hoping it will get better. Unfortunately, quite the opposite has happened. What makes it so bad is it appears that management does nothing about it. If the manager mentioned in the prior review is the same one we have dealth with we know first hand how rude he has been to customers who have raised concerns while dining there. It seems it is more important to him to converse and play around with the employees instead of making sure that customers are being tended to properly and timely. I think because people keep coming, the thought must be that this behavior will get overlooked, but eventually people will tire of the bad service, bad attitudes, and all around bad experience.
Pardon the bad pun, but Cafe Intermezzo, Wake up and smell the coffee!!!!!

Intermezzo has good dessert (albeit WAY overpriced), but the service is so terrible and the management is so rude that I will not bother with this place again. I generally don't complain about slow or inattentive wait staff, so I wouldn't base a bad review on one bad experience. The problem with Intermezzo on Peachtree is that I have had slow and inattentive wait staff every single time I've been there (4-5 times). The last straw was when the waitress neglected to bring my date his food order, and then never checked-up on our table, so we ended up just sharing my food. I had experienced poor service at Intermezzo so many times, that this time I wanted to alert the manager. As we were leaving, we told the manager about our experience. He asked us to wait while he went to speak to our waitress. I thought that was unprofessional, and he should've addressed the waitress outside of our presence. Then, when he came back, he asked whether we wanted to purchase the food that the waitress never brought us. I told him no, we only wanted to bring the situation to management's attention. He arrogantly said "so what do you want me to do about it?" We were so offended by his remark, we just left. Because of the consistently poor service, and the insulting and rude way the manager spoke to my date and I, I will never patronize Intermezzo again. There are plenty of other dessert cafes in the area where I can spend my money...and considerably less of it.

Horrible customer service, inefficient and poorly managed. It is a shame that something as essential and fundamental as service, it is still so overtly sub par. To the person in charge of creating such an apathetic environment I must say, Sir you are a failure at management, walk away........

I have always been a big fan of Intermezzo until today. My mother was visiting from out of town and I wanted to take her to my (once) favorite spot. Before arriving to the restaurant I told my girlfriend that I was taking my mom to Intermezzo and she casually responded " hopefully you don't see another el Cocoracha". I laughed it off, though I did remember the last time we were there and we saw el Cocoracha. Needless to say after being there for only 15 minutes, I saw El Cocoracha in true form!! I immediately cancelled my order and asked to speak to management however what was most upsetting to me was that the manager tried to inconspicuosly step on el Cocoracha without letting the patron, whose feet el Cocoracha was hanging out next to, that she had unwanted company near her feet. Cafe Intermezzo please get your act together!!!

I would not recommend visiting intermezzo. what once used to be a bustling italian style cafe is now the most poorly managed establishment in the history of restaurants. My glass of crown royal xr, a $25 drink came with 80% water, and the other 20% was not crown xr. watered down drinks. not cool. we waited an hour for cake that never came to the table. HORRIBLE SERVICE.

My family was in town and we decided that after club and bar hopping in Buckhead to catch a bite to eat and Cafe Intermezzo was on the radar from my brother's experience from years prior. Immediately I was turned on by the the trendy, european cafe' look and ambience and there was no wait for seating. A few celebrities faces were in the place that night which made me feel like this was the "IT spot" to eat. Were else can you go and get gourmet coffee and omelettes @ 1230 at night! The omelete I ordered had spinach, cheese, mushrooms and tasted so good I almost ordered another one. And I came in no that hungry. 2 thumbs up! 1st class food and service!

I'm confused with this place. I used to love going there at night. But the crowd tends to be a little snobbish as well as the staff. The food was pretty good...I have only had their pastas... and I was never disappointed. However, I went to the Perimeter location and the service was HORRIBLE, they took almost 1 hour and a half to bring out the food and it was only two of us! But more recently I went on a Friday night and it was completely empty! I think Eclipse di Luna is taking their business. But the service was great and the food was out quick. So it's up in the air... I would say this place is like a box of chocolates...

What happened to this place? The food was never great but it used to be ok. My fiance and I went there last night for coffee and a piece of cake, but we decided at the last minute to get something to eat. I ordered mushroom ravioli thinking that it shouldn't be too complex for the kitchen to handle. My fiance ordered a grilled cheese sandwich. My ravioli was just horrible. All you could taste was onions, garlic salt and pepper with no trace of mushrooms at all. The sauce was gluey like it had been reheated in the microwave several times. It was completely inedible. It was almost as if whoever cooked it knew zero about cooking and certainly did not taste it before sending it out of the kitchen. My fiance's grilled cheese sandwich was ok, but honestly, it looked like something served up at Waffle House - Not that there's anything wrong with that, however at Waffle House I would expect to pay $3 for a grilled cheese, not $8 for the same thing with no accompanying side dish. Unless a pickle is considered a side item.
The tea I ordered had no flavor whatsover which I did send back to the server. Had I known that the ravioli was going to be as awful I would have kept the flavorless tea and sent back the food. I didn't have the heart to send back 2 things especially after the waitress told me that many things had been sent back to the kitchen that night, so one more thing didn't make any difference.
Come on Cafe Intermezzo folks! You're sitting on a goldmine - why would you serve such awful food! Also, train your staff. It always takes sooo long for stuff to come out to you. I used to love coming here as a single gal, but I've realized that I seem to now make a yearly visit to this place which always makes me remember why I only go there once a year. The service and food is awful, and even though the desserts are fabulous, its just too much of a pain to deal with the service and the growing potential of the place having gone even more downhill since your last visit.

I came one busy weekend evening with friends and sat in the patio and had a great time. Our server Zuri and Rachel was outstanding. We all love their happy energy and that was just what we needed after a long week of work, to see happy people...Happy holidays you guys...I will definitely return to see you all...

On Saturday I took my wife to Cafe Intermezzo after dinner. When we entered the restaurant, five employees were standing around the reception counter, talking amongst themselves for the first 30 seconds while we stood before saying "hello", "welcome", or any of the other common phrases that don't give customers the feeling they're more of a nuisance rather than the reason any service provider is in business.

When we were finally given a seat, the waiter was quick enough to get us a menu and take our order for two coffees and a dessert, and it took about 15 minutes before we had our coffee and dessert. However, he didn't come back and check on us for about 30 minutes. While one of the main goals of going to a coffee shop is long conversation, checking up on customers (e.g. how is everything, what else can I get you, do you need a refill on your coffee?) is still just as important. Why couldn't one of the five folks in the front help if our waiter was too busy, and is everything as expensive as it is to fund staff that just stand around and ignore customers?

I can go elsewhere to get good coffee AND good service, for a better price - my wife deserves better. The atmosphere is nice, but I cannot recommend this place.

I love this place because it is open so late! My friends and I have typically gone around 12:30 to 1 AM and remained until closing. Love the chocolate cake/cheescake combo that I have had there twice....I have never been disappointed with any of the coffee/espresso drinks. The atmosphere is fantastic! Candle lit and yet still bustling so that you have privacy while feeling like you are in the midst of something exciting. It would be very easy to have a romantic date here. The service is only ok...a little slow and sometimes grumpy but I guess I would be grumpy at 1 AM if I had to work. This is a must-visit spot for anyone living in Atlanta long term.

Went to Cafe Intermezzo the other night for dessert after a dinner night out. Dessert was the best part of the night! The tiramisu was great. So was my Irish coffee. So many desserts I had a hard time choosing. Everything looked so good. Service was a little slow, but we didn't mind becuase we spent so much time staring at all the yummy desserts!

Rodents and insects!!! my wife and I went to cafe intermezzo on peachtree last week when we noticed a large insect crawling up the wall near our table as if this did not disgust us enough I found rodent excretement in the corner of the mens room floor.even though the service has always been terrible and we"ve received cold coffee a few times we loved the pastries so we continued to patronize the place for a while but after this never again will we set foot near the place.better off getting cheesecake from the kroger deli than chance eatting food in a place with pest problems.

We stopped by specifically for some desserts and were not disappointed by the wide array of amazing treats in the cases. Staff were friendly and helpful in navigating all the options and listing ingredients. They had a ton of different options to choose from which was great since one of our party is allergic to chocolate. Service was just a little slow but the food was so good we didn't care.

Cafe Intermezzo off of Peachtree in Atlanta was great: Food, service, wait for seating, everything.

We went to Cafe Intermezzo after a movie and discovered they were still on an hour wait. But instead of giving us one of those clunky restaurant pagers, they had a very cool wait management system that I had to ask about because it really helped keep us at the restaurant instead of going some place else. They used a system by Queuent that called us on our mobile phones when seating was available. So even though we had to wait an hour, we didn't have to wait at the bar and window shopped around the local stores while we waited. When we were called (after about 50 minutes ofwaiting), we were at the other end of the shopping center but the system let us delay by 15 minutes. When we returned to Cafe Intermezzo they sat us at the very next table.

For being on an hour wait, the restaurant didn't seem that crowded but all the tables were full and everything was very smooth and easy to navigate. The server greeted us at our table and was very professional. We ordered drinks while we looked over a very well designed menu. The drinks were served within a few minutes and we ordered the cheesecake - A great late night treat in my opinion.

All in all, a great casual night out for my wife and I. Highly recommended for a dinner + movie + dessert night. And being able to walk around instead of standing in a crowded restaurant waiting for a table, really kept the evening going.

The setting is very intimate; the atmosphere is very tranquil which makes it perfect for conversation between you and your insignificant other. The pricing is reasonable and the service is great and they stay open very late which allows you to slide in a good dinner after a long day?s work.

This cafe is my favorite cafe ever. Doesnt matter if you go in the morning for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or late nite hangout, Cafe Intermezzo is the place to go. I've been to this place a dozen times and always have a good experience. The servers are nice, desserts and drinks are delish (plenty to choose from...yummmm). What else to say...I highly highly recommend this place!

I've been to Cafe Intermezzo a few times, and it is always a madhouse. Still, we were seated within 5 minutes. Unfortunately, the table was right next to the dessert cases. We had people's backsides in our faces the entire time we were there. It took our server a while to finally take our orders, but they came out pretty quickly. DH got a coffee liquor drink, which he liked. I had a good, fruity decaf tea. The portions of the drinks are generous. We ordered two pieces of cake, which we never got. Thankfully, we were not charged for them. As we were full from dinner, we chose not to pursue getting them. We won't be back anytime soon.

Cafe Intermezzo is open late, and gives great service. They food/desserts/drinks are very tasty as well. Not too overpriced... It can get real crowded during the weekends, and you end up having to wait outside for your reservation to be called, good thing there are heaters OUTSIDE! We live in the Brookwood neighborhood, and usually just walk over, and grab something to splurge on, to go. We walked in, and their sat Barbra Striesand and company. I had lock-jaw. I just pointed to the White Chocolate Cheesecake, and could not speak. We couldn't afford tickets to her concert, but we did see her up close and personal. That cheesecake, was the best I've ever had. Cafe Intermezzo is the standard for all deserts! Babs was in concert here the next night.

okay, this is a decent dessert place - dim lighting and cozy seating make for a good date atmosphere...maybe I'm a little frugal, but at $7.50 per slice, you would expect the dessert to be better than just "decent."

I first started going here in 1998, great then, but over the last few years, it has steadily declined to the point that I now refuse to go there. The last straw was when my wife and I went, we ordered drinks and it took 20 minutes to get mine, the waitress forgot to put my wifes in the computer, so another 10 minutes later, we both finally have drinks. we then order an appitizer and our food at the same time as to not delay our stay any longer than needed. After waiting almost an hour and 30 minutes, still with no appitizer and not even a visit from our waitress to explain why, we decided to leave after our drinks sat empty for over 40 minutes. Paid for our drinks and left. Will never go back, simple as that... Lots of my associates have had similar problems and have stoped going as well. Before you jump on me and say, "well, it's a busy place", this night was not, I'd say only 50-60% full...

The service is soooo bad, the place has gotten so dirty that I am uncomfortable eating anything from the kitchen. The desserts and coffee are still good, but I don't know how much longer I will continue to go there. Do you see how dirty the menus are??????

I happened upon Intermezzo when I first moved to Atlanta in 2002 and have gone with some frequency ever since. I will say the place is consistent in its inconsistency. Sometimes the food is excellent, as is the service. At other times, the food is okay and the service is atrocious. I had a run in 2005 where the service was consistently good, but the last time I went (February 2006), I was served by someone who was apparently sent home, and was only replaced when I complained to a manager. His replacement was also terrible, possibly because he had too many tables. All told, it was shocking, and I wasn't even comped anything.

The selection at the bar and the desserts are always top notch, as is the atmosphere. Anything else? You pays your money, you takes your chances.

Cafe Intermezzo is without a doubt the best place in Atlanta to get dessert. With two large dessert cases and a drink menu the size of a novel, there is sure to be something for everyone. The last time we went it was a Saturday night and we waited no longer than two minutes to be seated. The only draw back is that the drinks from the bar can get pricey. The dining room also gets tight whatn the restaurant is busy. Depsite all this, I would highly recommend it for a date, a group date, or just a grat rendevous point with friends.

Editorial from

cafe Intermezzo draws upon the European coffee and pastry house experience to define its atmosphere. But besides dessert, there are savory dishes, and the cooking is fair, with classic savory (as well as sweet) crepes. Reliably good…
