Steve Harvey said its the best fired chicken in the world and he is right. Rarely does the chicken sit around and the big boss man makes sure he has just enough to finish of the day. Still wondering about the old school cafeteria trays but once the squash casserole and fired chicken hit the plate it is like its served on fine china. Like any other soulful place you won't like everything but the traditional dishes are incredible. Get some sweet tea while you are there.

Great traditional southern food at a very reasonable price. The fried chicken is juicy and flavorful and the sides are so good you wish you could go back for seconds. I only wish this place was closer to my office or house. Then again, that would probably be bad for my waistline.

This was a great place to go when you know the money goes into the food, and not how the place is decorated. It was really good. The portions were just right. To anyone who says the portions are small, its because they must weigh 200 lbs +

Pros: good southern comfort food, huge portions, decent price

Cons: no parking, open limited hours, closed every weekend

Have zero idea why anyone would go here. We try new places for lunch all the time. Carver's beats this place by about a hundred stars. The side sucked and portions were small. The chicken was mediocre, at best. The tea was not good.

Cons: PARKING!!, small

Long time fan of Deacon Burton, I was sad at his passing a few years back. Along came Son's Place around the corner, with nearly the same fried chicken and sides. Whether he is the Deacon's son or not, this is real southern soul food.

This noisily convivial soul food restaurant is a bright spot in the gritty, industrial world of DeKalb Avenue. Preserving the spirit, recipes and popular following of the legendary Deacon Burton's, which previously…
