I stopped by this place while in Rome and I thought it looked interesting. I went inside and it was entirely empty except for a friendly old lady behind the counter who offered me a menu. One of the cooks in back brought me out a printed plain piece of paper with a menu. They had fairly low prices and the food I like to eat?? Southern cooking, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, etc. I looked around inside the place and it was completely empty and looked straight out of the 1960s, and was dark and lonely. I've got no problem with 1960s style when it's still bustling with people, but it looked so sad it almost made you want to cry. I looked at the inspection score to see if it was any good, as I thought I might stay anyway. The score was an 82 on the re-test, before that it was a 76. Having had several bouts with foodborne illness with restaurants scoring in the 70s, I decided not to stay. This place was probably a great spot 40 years ago, but the fact that it was empty and was a possible health hazard made me leave. The first thing they need to do is bring up that health score. Also, if they remodeled it, took the ceiling out and opened it up to the second floor into a mezzanine, and put some windows in the second floor front and let some light in, people might feel more invited and want to stay. I'd hate to see such a long-lasting establishment close down, but I won't risk illness to keep them in business. It is sad that the downtown Rome area has turned into such a ghost town.

Pros: Great location

Cons: Empty. Low inspection score.

If you?re in the mood for southern style veggies, look no further. If you?re on a diet, don?t look too closely. The Partridge Caf boasts excellent home cooked taste, but probably isn?t the best for watching the waist line. Still, it?s a very good value and pretty good variety from which to choose.
