We love the fajitas so much...it is so hard to decide which ones to get! I typically order the chicken and my husband orders the steak and we share. The cheese dip is to die for and I normally order an extra to go to keep in the fridge.

This is a fun place for sitting on the patio & drinking with friends. However, the food isn't the greatest. I am from Southern California where Mexican food is great so my expectations were high. The fajitas have good flavor, but the meat is overcooked. I prefer Chili's steak fajitas over these.

Or at least don't get delivery from the one on Ponce. A few nights ago, my girlfriend and I ordered delivery... appetizer and two entrees. Estimated delivery time was 45 min at 830P. At the hour mark I called to check on the status to make sure they had all of the information correct. I was told the driver had left 20 minutes prior and was on the way. At the 80 minute mark, the driver called and wanted to confirm my address. He was still 10-15 minutes away. After 10:00P, the food finally arrived. It was cold, soggy, and disgusting. We threw it away. The manager promised that he would credit back my card and to check back in a few days. Today they say they can't do that. When I said I was not going to ever go back to that restaurant, the manager told me to "GO TO HELL." It sure is an odd way to run a business. To be fair, I've never eaten in the restaurant. So, maybe that is a different experience. Based on the manager's behavior, I guess I'll never know.??

I come here as often as I can to get a cheap meal and margaritas. I usually order the chimichangas whenever I eat Mexican, but I've tried a few other items like the Fajitas and Enchilada's which are all good but they are not the chimichanga!

Anyway, I've never had a problem here. The service is always fast and courteous and my margaritas are always right on the money. The parking lot sits on a steep hill which is kinda weird but other than that this place is the best!!

I come here alot so that I can drink margaritas and eat for cheap. So far while living in ATL this place hooks it up on the tequila when it comes to serving margaritas. I usually order a Chimichanga or Nachos and they are really really good. To be fair I don't venture outside of my comfort zone with these items very much, so I might not be the best person to write a food review. but if you do go you can bet your money on the Chimichangas and margaritas.

I enjoyed it...ordered the Texas fajitas and cheese dip and it was fantastic. Server was very kind and it only took about 5 mins to get my food. Also, the margarita was a little strong for me, but I'm a lightweight, so most people would probably see that as a benefit.

I came in around 7:00 looking for a quick meal. The parking lot was a little small, but thats not really an issue. I ordered two of their Kick "A" Margaritas and was a little surprised at how strong it was. I was nearly falling out of my seat halfway through the 2nd margarita so my plans of getting some work done didn't really pan out. I ordered the Burrito Azteca that was quite good. Im happy it was a huge portion because i needed something that would soak up all the alcohol. My only complaint was that it should be spicier but thats the same complaint I make at every restaurant.

My server's name was Marilia and she was pretty cute and very nice. She made sure that i had a very pleasant experience and I'll be sure to sit in her section again next time.

My wife and two kids ate there last Sunday on our way home from church. This was a perfect choice for us as our bill for the four of us was only $35. I had the Texas Fajitas which were phenomenal, my wife had a chimichanga, and the kids were happy with chicken burritos as well as a cheese dip. The service was courteous and polite and the food came quickly. I will definitely be coming back to El Azteca!

I had hope since it looked like a dump the food would be good but no...The eye rolling waitress could not have been any more put out. The food tasted like it was reheated from from the week before. The margaritas are pricey and its all mix. Atlanta is full of great place to eat please take my advice and avoid this one. I see some positive reviews but trust me those writers must be the owners of "El Azcrappa" because the negative reviews are DEAD ON ACCURATE

Used to come here quite a bit for lunch with friends. Nothing stands out, but it's cheap-and-cheerful--a good place for a beer and maybe a bite with some chips and salsa.

I Love El Azteca! It is one of my guilty pleasures and I just adore their food! Not to mention their sensational margaritas! I think I have tried just about everything on their menu as I frequent there at least twice a month. some of my favorites: Fajitas, (all of them, steak, chicken, and shrimp) Tostagucs, Chile Rellenos, Burritos (they are a meal in itself) And the tacos are terrific too. Try the soup if you want something light, and the tostados are quite good too, I am not really a salad guy, but the tostados are how I do salad! The cheese dip is addictive and the service is excellente! Why aren't you there right now? I am!

I grew up in San Diego and went to school in Arizona so I know Mexican food! When I moved to Atlanta everyone told me a great place for Mexican food and a relaxed place is El Azteca on Ponce De Leon. I got a group together and this was a wonderful evening!

The portions are huge, the food is hot, fresh and made to order. The service is great and they let you enjoy yourself (not rush you) and have a great time. There is also a bar downstairs that I want to go back to! Our waiter was telling us about it since there is a separate entrance...I thought that was extremely considerate to the restaurant patrons that may not want to deal with the bar. Everyone ordered something different and we ended up sharing our meals. The portions are huge and are such a great value! Someone we went with had food allergies and the waiter was so accommodating to help out to make sure everything was prepared to our specific requests.

The margaritas we were told are the best and they are perfectly blended or are amazing on the rocks. FOREWARNING...the cheese sauce is to die for...this is truly a must. What I loved about this place is everyone makes you feel welcome, the food is great and even the owner stopped by to ask how everything was!

This place is perfect for comfort food. From the outdoor patio, plenty of parking and a huge menu selection! Also another huge plus...I just found out THEY NOW HAVE DELIVERY! The restaurant really cares about their customers and truly is a great place that I will keep going back to and planning get-togethers at!

I had went here for a freinds birthday, and was excited, I love Mexican food of any kind. When I got my taco salad it was soggy and had two peices of meet. The margaritas were all sour mix. And good luck getting an order in, in the first place. When it was time to close out the waiter was to busy to close me out. I went to the register to close out after asking him three times and was not serviced again. I finally got to ask the manager to help me and LUIS the server started to curse at me in spanish and threataning to beat me up and ki ll me in spanish. P.S. LUIS I know spanish. So in conclusion If you want poor service and bad food and possibly a fight with the staff go visit this place!

I love it!! Best Fajita's and Texas Margaritas in existence! Great patio! The service is always crisp and courteous. The best thing is when you've ordered a pitcher of Texas margaritas and you've downed the first one and snacked on some chips and salsa. Hunger hits and then the clouds break and here comes the waiter with a sizzling skillet of Texas fajitas. The iron skillet is overflowing with shrimp, chicken and steak all smothered in green peppers and onions. This usually draws the eye of everyone within a few tables who wonder why they didn't order the fajitas. But when it hits the table the sight and smell are a delightful. If you are on a first date fellas she will be impressed. That and a pitcher of Texas margaritas works every time!!!! I have to have it at least a couple of times a month.

Although my friends and I enjoyed ourselves in the begining, and we enjoyed the atmosphere, the food was overcooked. The security guard and the patrons below blocked the only exit of the restuarant and commented that he was the owner of the bar and he could do what ever the h@# he wanted. The patrons were outside of the bar in the street drinking which is illegal and he had no sign indicating that there was no thru exit. We watched cars go out of the exit the whole time we dined and it did not pose a problem. The toilet was broken and they did not have a sign indicating as so. When my friend flushed the water from the back sprayed her. I will not ever in my life recommend anyone to eat at that facility. Believe me when I say that that was the worst experience I've ever encountered.

I enjoyed the dinner and atmosphere... The problem the rude patrons downstairs blocking the exit. The drive is a one way... Why is the exit blocked? Why are there patrons drinking outside and blocking the exit? I will not waste my money at this place again.

I went to El Azteca last Sat afternoon with a friend and we dined on the patio. She had a steak quesadilla and commented on how good the steak tasted. I had a vegetarian quesadilla and it tasted just as good as other Mexican restaurants. The patio is great and all the umbrellas offer shade from the hot sun. The service was good and prices cheap. I'd give it a try!

The copious amount of margaritas being served explains the decent food rankings. I don't care about the service. I'm not interested in the ambience. I just want to know that I will be able to hold down the food that I order. The chicken fajitas are shockingly bad. We all like nice patios, but I just don't think the trade-off is worthwile.

When I went I got the fajita plate for me and my fiance and it was great. First of all it was enough for at least three people. Second it was packed with scrumptious shrimp, tender steak, and perfectly seasoned chicken. The onions and bell peppers were cooked perfectly. They include homemade guacamole, beans, rice, and three fluffy flour tortillas.

The El Azteca on Ponce is AWESOME! Everyone is super friendly. I love the fajitas and I recently tried the Cancun Special: shrimp cooked in spicy pico de gallo on a bed of rice. Dining on their patio overlooking the sights and sounds of Ponce is one of my favorite pasttimes, and the recently redone interior conjures images of old Mejico. Furthermore, chasing their world famous margaritas with a Tecate could be the world's best cure for a case of the Mondays, or any other day of the week!

El Azteca is by far the best Mexican food in Atlanta. My personal favorite is the chicken enchiladas, but everything is very tasty. And yes--the margaritaas are as good as advertised! The outdoor patio is great for when the weather is nice, and the inside has a laid back feel to it that is authentic and welcoming. The staff is very attentive and the food comes out quickly and hot. I highly recommend El Azteca for any and all occasions.

Great food, I have issues coming up with enough words to properly praise the food quality. The firedchicken chimichanga with the white cheese sauce drenched over it is absolutely to die for. It is not too expensive, and provided you go during the week it is pretty peaceful. On the weekend they have a live mariachi band and people who offer to take Photos and sell roses.

Message from El Azteca

Open since 1992 our El Azteca restaurant has become a cultural icon on the east side of Midtown. We serve authentic Mexican and Tex-Mex flavors with gracious portions that are fit for any appetite. Our patio dining area overlooks Ponce De Leon in the beautiful Virginia Highlands and we believe in serving great Mexican food.
