I've been trying to call Salon Pennae for the last two days at tel. nos. (404) 745-4981 and (770) 593-2727, but no answer or it rings so long, I get a fax signal. How can I get in touch with Danny?

I'm not 100% sure, but I heard Danny and DeMaris (formerly of Too Groovy) are both now at Salon Penna'e (located on Ponce De Leon). Again, I haven't confirmed this yet, but plan to check it out this week because as we all know excellent, reliable hair stylists are hard to find!!!

I have been going to TOO GROOVY for about 6 years, and 4 of them have been with DeMaris. I was sorry to see him leave. Does anyone know where he is? I would like to continue to get my hair done with him.

I called Too Groovy to make an appointment with her but the receptionist told me that she is no longer with the company and she was not allowed to give me her forwarding info. What kind of mess is that!! I dont want to get my hair done by anyone else. Parissa is great on color, cuts, and she is very real and down to earth. Please help!!!!

The Stylist I've been to are great - Parrissa, DeMaris, & Danny - but the customer service at the front desk is AWEFUL. Reminds me alot of the the type of service I use to get a NSEYA....look what happened to them. I would recommend going to Barrons of London in Buckhead (Diana Pagan is my stylist). She does naturals gets you in and out and the staff at that salon is friendly & professional....and the prices are reasonable.

This is THE place to go if your hair is natural and you are looking for the best treatment for your hair. I usually get my hair steamed my hair for maybe fifteen minutes and that leaves my hair silky soft, my only concern was the high heat of the blow dryer. I often tell my mother this is where i would get my hair done for the wedding.

Never again! Let me start by letting you know up front that if they cancel your appointment-your best bet is to be a psychic! Even after I showed & read the CONFIRMATION email they sent to me(not the cancellation email)to the "receptionist"- not ONCE did he apologize,& not once did he offer to reschedule me. When I made my appointment, they told me I was already in the system since my first & only visit to this salon in 2007. It is NOT my job to update their system & they never asked me when I made the appointment. They insisted repeatedly they sent the cancellation, even though I'm standing there READING what they sent to me. He says:"We also called you on Tuesday."-3 days b4 appt- and only once did they email me. So, I verified the number they called - it was wrong! I STILL haven't heard an apology, and I STILL wasn't asked if I'd like to reschedule. I went through hell getting there to be received as though it was MY fault that they cancelled! At a minimum, they could've scheduled me with someone else and let me decide if that's okay. Once I got home, I called to speak with a manager. I was given the "receptionist"! Turns out he was the so-called asst mgr,Jamal,& he proceeds to tell me he checked their outbox & they sent me the cancellation. REALLY??!! Is that STILL all I get to hear as the PAYING CUSTOMER who was actually going to make this a WEEKLY VISIT?! Black salons need to get it together! A real biz would've been glad to see my loyalty in returning after 3 years.CLEARLY, they have ALL the business they need...in THIS economy.

My appointment was for 6:00. However, when I arrived I had to wait approximately 45 minutes before being called.. I must say that my time is very important and I did not appreciate the wait. My hair is relaxed and was washed and blowed dry... not good for relaxed hair. Well, by the time I was a through, I must say the style was nice, but my hair was hard and felt dry. Not soft and silky... I was not impressed... and with the $55.00 price tag decided that this was not the salon for me. I will continue my search for a good salon... with good customer service.

Please be advised that Natasha is not you're stylist!! AWFUL would be an understatement to describe my experience with her. She is very unprofessional, inconsiderate and heavy handed. I suggested that she take it easy on me and she totally ignored my suggestion and mumbled a derogatory response. A couple minutes later, she burned my scalp four times. I politely advised her that my time with her was up and proceeded to management. Manager/Sybil was very professional, understanding and apologetic. She referred me to another stylist within minutes. Let me just say "Sybil saved the day". I will be returning to stylist/Salentia or Sarentia (spell check please, her station is upstairs) in a couple weeks?yippee~

First let me say that I am VERY particular about my hair. The condition of my hair, the way it is handled by a stylist, the way it is cut...are all very important to me. I made a decision to discontinue my use of relaxers because my hair cannot handle both relaxers and color (color is becoming more important as gray hair continues to show up). I read about Too Groovy and decided to call for an appointment. I asked the receptionist to refer someone who was good at cutting hair. She gave me a list of stylists and I chose Parissa. Let me just say that my 1st experience was wonderful! I had steam therapy and a hair cut. I walked out of the salon and as soon as I arrived at my next destination, the compliments began...one woman even guessed that I went to TOO GROOVY- WOW! My hair bounced, behaved and had a natural shine that I'd never experienced. I've been back once more and the compliments continue (while on vacation in Miami a caucasian woman even took a picture of my hair to go back and show her stylist!). I don't usually write reviews but I know how helpful they can be. Take it from me (a clients who is hard to please) that Parissa at Too Groovy does a great job! I now have standing appointments with her. The salon will tell you that all of their stylists do a great job but I am not one to have different people doing my hair each week. I plan to have some color in the next few weeks so I will write an update afterwards. I hope this is helpful :)

I went to too groovy last night, as a last minute appointment. When It came time to comb and dry my hair, I thought I was a rag doll. Natasha was rough, which made my experience not pleasant at all. I ask her to be gentle, but it didn't appear to make a diffence to her. I'm not even going to repeat her response.
As a positve, she is a great sylist, just need help in the customer service department. So if you're tenderheaded, don't choose her.

Too Groovy salon exceeded my expectations! I'll just rattle off everything I loved about it: 1) The shampooist greeted me on time; 2) Everyone in the salon was friendly, approachable and professional; 3) My stylist, Parissa, didn't push the steam treatment even though I thought I might need it - she had enough integrity to tell me my hair was healthy enough without it; 4) Parissa is a wizard with the scissors - she gave me EXACTLY the cut I asked for; 5) Every client I saw had a head of healthy hair (short or long) and now I do too! I only wish they had a location in Dallas (where I live) but until then, I'll be visiting Atlanta every 3 months or so to get my 'do taken care of. Kudos to Too Groovy!

Cons: I don't live in Atlanta :-(

I don't care what anyone says, I LOVE LOVE LOVE Too Groovy Salon! I asked someone where she gets her hair done and she said Too Groovy in Atlanta. Her hair was beautiful! Healthy, shiny, and full of body. I don't live in Atlanta, but based on the look and feel of her hair, a road trip was definitely in order.

I decided to make a transition to Natural, and not have any relaxers in my hair, to allow it to grow, and get back to really being healthy. Once I heard Too Groovy was a slaon that specializes in healthy, natural hair, and doesn't have perm on the premises, I immediately called to book an appointment.

Since I don't live in Atlanta, I called for directions, when I got turned around trying to located the salon. The receptionist was very friendly, and professional on the phone. Upon arriving, I was immediatley greeted with a smile, and water while I sat in the lobby for my stylist. Natasha.

Natasha and I briefly talked about the state of my hair, before going to the shampoo bowl. This was THE BEST SHAMPOO SERVICE I have ever received! Natasha really made sure the products deeply penetrated my scalp, and she didn't do a quick 10 minute wash (like I'm accustomed to) She took her time to massage my scalp, and ensure my hair really soaked up the products.

After shampooing she applied several conditioners on my hair and sat me under the steamer for 20 mins. My first time experiencing a steam treament, and now I'm on a mission to find someone in my city that uses it!
After rinsing the conditioner out, and blow drying and trimming my ends, I ran my fingers through my hair and was amazed. My hair felt like a Cabbage Patch Corn Silk Doll's hair! I was impresed at how straight, but great it felt.

Because my hair is growing out from a short cut from last July, it is kind of in the "in between stage," so I will say that I wasn't WOWED by the style once complete, but my hair felt AWESOME! Natasha was a professional, courtesous, and attentive stylist. She talked about all of the products she was using on my hair, and how they would benefit my hair. I was very impressed with her and the attention she gave my hair. She wrote down a list of the products she used on my hair for me to reference later.

I am trying to figure out how I can budget to go to to Atlanta to go to Too Groovy every month!! I have not been this happy with my hair at all this year until I went to Too Groovy!

Pros: Professional, Courteous, Knowledgeable Staff

Cons: they aren't in my city!

I've been going to Too Groovy Salon every week for almost a year now. While I started going for the professional atmosphere, I continue to go because I finally realized how important my hair is to me. When I started at this salon, I had a perm which I??d had all my life. Some months and years with my perm were good with my hair growing well but there would always come a period in time when I would suddenly have a bout with breakage. Was it my diet? Was it because I??d been wearing my hair pulled back? Was it because of stress? I never knew the reason but I??d always feel that sinking feeling knowing how long it was going to take to get my hair back in shape. In comes Tehira who showed me the benefits for me of going natural. At the beginning I fought with her, never wanting her to cut too much of the perm. I even argued that this ??natural? business which in the beginning I called ??nappy? was a game! And then, it happened. I finally saw the beauty of my natural hair. I saw my edges fill in, I saw my hair get thicker, I saw my hair beautiful and manageable when it??s wet and I feel the feeling of no longer worrying about breakage. So, if you want a quick do, go anywhere. If you want a real change for your hair and how you feel about it, go to Too Groovy. The stylists there are funny like Courtney, quiet like Tehira, sophisticated like Lavonne, skilled like Danny and sassy like LeShon but they all have in common that they truly care about the condition of your hair. You may not been in agreement but your hair will always be the better.

Well.... I read reviews on all the websites about this place. They were all great ( of course )

I was told this by the stylist and receptionist...

" Girl, get it cut off, get you some bamboo earrings and a headband and just rock it like that !!!! "

If you need more reason to not go.... read further

They try to make you rock the afrocentric look, even if you are not comfortable with it.....I have NEVER cut my hair before..Natasha did at Too Groovy. And it was ugly.
She cut it bluntly all the way around and gave me a hydration treatment all for a wopping $65.00 ??????
She know she wasnt right , hiding when it came time to give me the bill

AND....Courtney came over to me when it was time to decide to get it cut and put the pressure on me, askin me questions like " how old are you? Why you hard headed you shud just get it cut?
They not as classy as they claim to be....

After numerous years of severe hair issues resulting from relaxers and color, and a recommendation from a family friend to try going natural via Too Groovy's magical touch, I gave them a try. I called Monday morning and was able to get a next day appointment at my time of choosing. The salon is easily accessible off of Ponce and has street as well as validated garage parking. The salon is beautifully decorated in ultra chic and trendy decor which adds to the great atmosphere. The staff readily greeted me when I entered, my stylist was waiting for me at the receptionist desk, and I immediately felt welcome. I really like how she did not immediately begin doing my hair eager to rush me out and took the time to consult with me, explain the natural process, and ask if I had any questions. The shampoo was great, with the chairs being almost upright so you don't have to strain your neck leaning backwards. I opted for a hydrating steam treatment to help with my breakage/shedding/lack of moisture problem. The style came out great and it is a huge improvement from when I first arrived at the salon. Gradually, I will cut all the relaxed hair off. Something I noticed was how EVERY client that was in there had beautiful, long, luscious hair. I had to ask my stylist do they do extensions or is this the real deal. She assured me healthy hair is their speciality, they don't do relaxers or anything, and that with patience my hair can look like that too. Now, while I do think they are over-priced and a strain on my student budget, I am going to give it a few months and see if I see some results. The service was excellent and if I had to have a con, it would be that a lot of the stylist had multiple clients at one time and would go back and forth betweent the clients meaning you or the other client would have to wait 15 minutes or so back and forth until she got caught up. This could be solved with better appointment setting by the receptionist and the stylist sticking to schedule or calling and telling the next client she is running behind.

I've been a client for several months now at Too Groovy (Lenox Location). I scheduled a permanent color six weeks in advanced and on the day I went to my appointment the receptionist says, "Oh I meant to call you, we don't have the color in for your appt". If you schedule a color MAKE SURE they have it at this location. No one called me in advanced, that could have called me to spare my time and gas driving to the Buckhead location. I really felt as if they didn't care...its like the mentally is.."We have so many clients, so deal with it." I'm debating if I should continue to go there because this incident made me feel like just another head of hair....to them.

UPDATEI would no longer refer this salon.> I went back for my second appointment and was not happy at all. $85 is too much to pay for hair that does not last a few hours. I also found that many of the staff were very cold and detached from the customer. I have since found out that Too Groovy has changed owners. It appears I went during the transition period. Robin who started the salon went her seperate ways from her partners and now has a new salon off of I-20 and BLvd.

_____

I was referred to Too Groovy by a co worker , her hair always looks fabulous. I have transitioned from relaxer to natural hair and I had been looking for salon that was into natural hair. Although, my former hair stylist tried to accommodate my change to a chemical free style, my hair was always dry, dull and lifeless. I would get my hair done on Friday and by Sunday it was done for.My appointment was with Natashia I did not have to wait, she was very professional as was the receptionist. I got the color, conditioner, trim and style. I could not believe how my hair looked and felt. It looked like I had I just had a relaxer and the shine was incredible. It is now Wednesday and my hair still looks great. I have gotten many complements this week. But most important to me, my hair looks and feels like my old hair again.

My friend Betty and I visited Too Groovy shop on Tara Blvd in Lovejoy. A great location with plenty of parking. The staff is friendly and warm if yoy live in the area or if you don't mind the drive (30 minutes) give them a visit. What a great experience, Sir Elliott did our hair on a rainy day. (my husband loves it too). I have a perm and was really surprised how soft and silky my hair is. Betty has natural hair and it did not revert back in all the rain. This was our first trip we can't wait for the next visit.

My experience was with the Love Joy location, the customer service from that from front office staff is Horrible. The experience I had with my stylist was ok, but the front office experience put a bitter taste in my mouth. They would probably benefit from some customer service classes, becasue they are operating on customer NO Service. With the state of the economy and there being 5 hair salons on every corner maybe one day they will figure out that they have to satisfy the customer. Might I add there also seems to be no Love between the front office and the stylist.

I will get my tressess taken care of else where before I deal with their un professionalism

I called Too Groovy Salon and Spa in Midtown after reading the great reviews and hearing the same. I explained to the receptionist that I had naturally curly hair with color and needed someone who could really do well with curly, fine, colored hair. She recommended I come in and have a consultation with SHEENA who is known at the salon for doing great hair but most importantly GREAT COLOR. I met with her and felt very comfortable with following up with a hair appt. SHEENA did not dissappoint me! She was able to match my roots to the exact shade it needed to be. My hair was washed, well conditioned and styled. She did a great blow-out and flat ironed it to perfection. I am sold on "Too Groovy"!

I loved it here! A bit pricey but worth it in my opinion. Sheena was great in letting me know what i needed for my hair. I have lived in Atlanta for a little over 2 yrs and have been natural for about 3, this place is great for me and my hair! Go see them, at least until your hair is where you want it to be.

I started going to Too Groovy (Lenox location) in July 2007. At the time, my hair was very damage around the hairline and shedding big time. Now, with the help of Deanna (she is great!), I am getting a lot of compliments from women and men, black and white! With not having a relaxer since May 2007, my hair is at its best!!! I would have never thought about not getting a relaxer, but Deanna has proven to me that I really don't need one for my hair to be healthy. When I leave there, my hair is just so bouncy and lively. My hair has been through a vacation to the Dominican, hot Atlana weather and still is bone straight WITHOUT putting a relaxer in my hair. I am looking forwad to not having any relaxed hair, so I can do the natural wave and loose curls that my hair is capable of doing!

I am VERY picky about my hair and made an appointment with Robin (owner) after reading her profile on the website. I was told that Robin is no longer accepting new clients due to her reduced work schedule, so I took a chance and booked a service with the first available stylist. I was nervous b/c I did not have a referral, but Terry ended up doing an amazing job! I love my hair and now go bi-weekly to have my natural hair straightened! Everyone is VERY profssional, and services start on time. From start to finish my service was 1.5 hours, and even with the steam treatment I was out just before 2 hours. I believe you get what you pay for!!

I think I finally found my hair niche. I have been to over 15 salons in Atlanta since I moved here in 1999. Some salons specialized only in African American hair and some specialized in Caucasian hair but did African American hair really well. This salon has won my heart b/c it is completely African American owned and run like a well oiled machine. I am always out of there in under 2 hours, everyone in the salon is pleasant and they're not pushy at all trying to sell you products although they only sell top of the line Bumble and Bumble, Design Essentials, Chi, etc., and if I can't get in with my regular stylist they don't mind me switching up from week to week and I don't mind b/c everyone in there is really good. Also the atmosphere is quiet, clean and spa-like with soft music, hot herbal tea and water if you so desire.

Let me say that I have had a perm for the majority of my life (since 5th grade) and I am trying to go natural because of how beautiful the texture is of the other women in the salon that already are natural. My hair looks so healthy and full and feels so light without a perm and I know it's going to be the only way to get the color I want. I've seen nothing but great results from other people. It's only been about 12 weeks for me but usually I'm a every 6 week perm kind of girl. My hair looks beautiful and I'm getting way more compliments now than when I had weave down my back.

I know that Too Groovy is a little pricey but it is worth it to me to finally have a healthy head of hair. I'll be able to space out my visits more when I'm completely natural and not so worried about it breaking off.

All I can tell you is that if you don't believe me just go visit the salon for a consultation and watch all the beautiful heads of hair you will see leaving the salon- it's amazing!

Also the Spa leaves nothing to be desired. I got a prenatal massage and it was wonderful. And Kelly that does nails is awesome.

I moved to Atlanta after Hurricane Katrina. If you know anything about New Orleans, you know hair is a priority! I struggled to find a salon that would satisfy me. I went to three different salons in the Atlanta area. Too Groovy was the final selection. I was ready to drive to New Orleans every other week to get my hair done. I work around several celebrities and teens daily and looks are very important to my line of work. Too Groovy was the place! At first I thought the prices were a little high, but it was worth every penny. If you need a salon to do it right the first time, Too Groovy is the place. For all of my friends in New Orleans, you will not find a place that can handle you hair like this one!

I love too groovy. As a brown girl with natural hair I often struggled to find someone who could give me a nice bouncy press. Well this is the place. I am in and out in no less than 2 hours every time... a little pricey? Yes, but you get what you pay for and Too Groovy is worth every dime.

I called to confirm two separate consultation appts. I had scheduled at this salon, and was told each time that they couldn't find my appt. in the computer. Thank goodness I checked before driving all the way down there! So, this was the last straw, I will never try them again. FYI - I had a hair consultation last year for a different service and had to wait forever and ended up seeing another stylist who squeezed me in. Beware if your time is important to you 'cause apparently it's not to too groovy!

I enjoyed this salon as it was the first I had visted in about a year. I have a natural and found it hard to find a salon that would take the time to style my mane.

I loved the fact that I was seen within 10 minutes. I was greeted and made to fell comfortable.

I have been twice. The first experience was great. The second was good. I am cheap so the please take this with a grain of salt. I paid over 85 each trip. Not bad for a shampoo, and a press which rocked. I was sharp.

Best shampoo girl: Enchantcha (sp).
she gives your scalp a great massage.

Very professional but not snobby.

This place knows how to do hair. I had to get my hair don for a weding and they knew just how to do it. They made it look so great that even my friend asked me if she could get it done. It was great because the people who worked there treated me so nice that they even gave me a great discount on my hair style.

I really enjoyed my expereince at this salon. If you have natural hair this is the place to go. Robyn was the sylist that did my hair, she really did an excellant job of talking to me about my hair as well as going over products that would work with specifcally for my hair.

I also like the atmosphere. While waiting on Robyn, the receptionist offered me a goblet of juice and placed aromatherapy around my neck. I really felt as though they provided first class service.
