Absolutely amazing, as always.
The thing my husband and I marvel on when we're here is that Bacchanalia doesn't just do one or two or six things to perfection... everything is a homerun! We tasted 14 plates last night (5 course dinner for each of us, plus the in-between-course yummies) and every single one had the perfect texture, perfect temperature, perfect appearance.
Our favorites were: crab fritter, grilled octopus, NY strip, lobster app, pumpkin churro, gruyere puffs and warm chocolate cake. Mmmmm!

This restaurant is great. As soon as we arrived, we were taken to a table without waiting a single moment. Upon seating at the table, a menu is presented. The server asks if there are any questions and then lets you have a little time to decide what you want to order. This is a prix fixe menu, so your whole meal is ordered before you get a course, so that the chef can time your meal impeccably. Between courses, "gifts from the chef" were presented to me, and these could be anything from the most ethereal cheeseball to a bright asparagus soup that wakes one up. It should be pointed out that wile this restaurant has 5-star quality food, the atmosphere is not pretentious at all. I felt as if I could put my elbows on the table and savor the food without worrying about having to conform to a strict code of conduct. The waiters are attentive but not obtrusive, so one can focus on the food and not annoyances from waiters. Initially, I did not think that I would like the cheese course, but I loved the strawberries with stochionno cheese and truffled honey, so, yes, this place is that good! And, at the end of the night, the restaurant gives you a souvenir so that you can savor the tastes of bacchanalia for at least one more night: a freshly baked baguette from Star Provisions!

Pros: Crab fritter, charcuterie board, fish courses, service

Cons: Kind of expensive

We had a great experience at Bacchanalia. The food was exquisite. The chef sends out these dinner favors from gourmet cheese balls to
rabbits liver.

I did the 4 course pre-fixe. The crab fritter appetizer was the highlight of my dining experience. A pure delicacy. Main course was the lobster. While good, I wont yearn for it like I will for the crab fritter. I think the onions were a turn off for me. I went with the buffalo cheese and fresh tomato varietals as a 3rd course. Above average good but not the best I've had. For dinner I had the Ellijay Apple something which was very good as well but I could have used more ice cream. All in all the food was very good, but I think they earn their reputation by their service which is the best I've ever experienced. They had a team of people in rotation that was perfectly there and not there to meet our desires.

Epilogue
Also sampled was their oysters with caviar sprinkles. Very nice though for oysters, I recommend Aspens in Acworth. They have to have the best cheese selection in Atlanta. We did some cheese pairings from some selections of over 20 cheeses from a zoo's worth of animals. I've never been a liver fan...and that's no different for Bugs...though paired with whatever they put it with was good. Lastly, I wasn't impressed with the architecture. The experience and the food definitely warrant the price.

Pros: Best dining experience in Atlanta

Cons: Not cheap

We ate here for my birthday. It did not disappoint at all. Yes, it is pricey. However for the 4 courses, there were many little courses mixed in. You can also opt for the wine pairings for each of your dishes. Everything was so fresh and good.

i have been here several times, both on dates with my husband and with groups of friends. it is a very special dining experience. the service is impeccable. the food is decadent and clearly made with love and skill. yes the portions are small, but they are very rich, and i can never eat it all. in addition to the courses you order, they serve all sorts of little surprises between courses. the last time i was there, i jokingly asked the waiter if he was trying to hurt me by serving me all the food. he didn't get my joke, but i left feeling ill from all the butter. i think it's too rich for me!

Pros: special, decadent, romantic

Cons: don't feel well after so much rich food

I ate here last weekend and it does not disappoint. It is very pricey, for most of us a special occasion only meal, but worth every penny. The portions are small, but with all of the amuse bouche between each of the four courses, you will not go hungry. Mention if you are there for a birthday or anniversary, they will give you a little miniature cake which is just adorable.

The figs and parmesan with honey and balsamic was the best part of my meal, but by then I was almost too full to enjoy it

I will never understand why they moved from the previous, quaint location to this trendy industrial area but the food remains as one of Atlanta's best.

We had heard great things about this place but were greatly disappointed when we finally went to eat there. The wait staff was rude and snobby, they tried to rush us through out meal and when we complained we were told that the chef decides not the customer! We wrote a letter to complain about the service and were told that although they were sorry we felt we had a bad experience there was nothing they could do!

The experience was so bad that I cannot even remember the food!

This was one of my favorite restaurants before they move. The ambiance is sooo different. It used to be in a charming home and now it's a somewhat hard edge room with an adjacent store. But the food is still good and you wouldn't be disappointed.

The taste, the flavors, the fresh ingredients - not many chefs like these in this world. ( Not a metaphor.)

Flawless, unobtrusive service. Accurate, invisible help.

Interior is Swiss bank smart, clear, efficient.

Location - who cares.

Price - you get what you pay for. Value - the other way 'round.

We went here for our 5th wedding anniversary a few years back. I am just now writing a review because I have always read reviews when I am choosing a new restaurant, and they have been very helpful to me. I was taking my husband out, so we didn't discuss price before hand (I already knew what to expect). The food was very good and well prepared. My favorite was the crab cake fritters we had as appetizers (drizzled with an Asian source). You were really able to taste the freshness in each course, and the wait staff was outstanding. This restaurant has a cozy atmosphere, and is great for couples looking for privacy. When the check came at the end of the evening, my husband was a little shocked but never said it wasn't worth it.

I spent way too much money for average food. The best thing I had there was pea soup (a gift from the chef!)
Save your money and palate.

i will most definitely coming back to this restaurant. The service was awesome, superb, flawless and so was the food. The chefs was unbelieveable, they make the MOST unimagineabe heavenly food ever. Sooo friggin' delicious.. I might sound a little too much here.. but seeing is believing. if u're in town and crazy for french cuisine (even if u're not crazy of french cuisine) u've totally got to try this place. i promise u wont get dissapointed. The place has a really good ambience too. Good for a little romantic dinner or a little business meeting. and i think the price is very reasonable for what u gonna get here. i dont even think its pricey at all. Overall my experience with Bacchanalia was 1000% satisfied.

A memorable experience! I had the wine tasting menu and thought it was a bargain compared to the prices you see in NYC for similar style, and not necessarily as good, dining. The food was absolutely wonderful, fresh and presented beautifully; the staff was friendly and attentive; the wine choices were very enjoyable but "safe." The oysters topped with lemon sorbet and osetra were the absolute, over the top, best oyster preparation I've ever had. Fresh, icy cold, briny....the bomb!! The duck, the cheese course, the desert were almost equal. I adored all of the "gifts" that arrived at my table; a goat cheese gougere, a shooter of cold soup, light as a feather ricotta dumplings with shaved truffles (OMG!,) buttermilk pannacotta, cookies, chocolate. I dined alone and was made very comfortable; if you ever dine alone you know how weird and rushed the waitstaff can make you feel. For the naysayers who reviewed before me, clearly, you don't know fine dining so stick to Applebees. Bacchanalia is the ONLY reason I'll ever go back to Atlanta.

great service and fantastic, unpretentious food in a relaxed yet formal atmosphere. Bacchanalia is all about good ingredients made into something great worth eating. The only criterion being that everything tastes fabulously delicious and boy does it! Try it! Don't be put off as we nearly were - this restaurant is about showcasing food not people. A visit to Bacchanalia is a truly special and positively unforgettable experience, not to be missed. Go and enjoy!

Finally got there. Made reservations weeks in advance as suggested and thank goodness we did based on how crowded it was for a Tuesday. It was indeed superb dining. No question. Probably the best waitstaff I've ever experienced. All courses beautifully prepared. All wines were delicious and the pairings were excellent although I think the choices were safe (my hubby disagrees with the safe thing so take it for what it's worth). Only one caveat to the whole meal. Each time a course was served two of us received our dishes but the third person had to wait. The wait was noticeable enough that I'm writing about it. Odd considering the exceptional staff, not to mention quantity of said exceptional staff. All that being said, this was a delightful dining experience and one that anyone who enjoys fine dining should run not walk to. One last thing. I was a little surprised at the very casual dress of some patrons. Dressy on a weeknight may be a bit much but a jacket minimum and a optional tie for gentlemen was totally appropriate. This is some of the finest dining in Atlanta. Let's show it some respect!!!!!

Bacchanalia is consistently one of the most honored restaurants in the city, and after dining there for the second time last night, I can truly say that this reputation is more than deserved. Everything from my wonderful service, including the gracious hostess and server, to the delicious food made my Valentine's dinner superb. Looking at some of the comments below, I can only wonder if these people could have eaten at the same establishment, or simply have incredibly bad taste. In addition, since when are personal attacks on members of restaurant staff acceptable in food reviews? I go to Citysearch to read about the food, atmosphere and service at restaurants, not to read catty remarks about peoples' appearances. Again, Bacchanalia is amazing, and I will definitely go there again. Qmfb520, maybe you should check out T. G. I. Fridays: I hear that the food is pretty cheap and all the hostesses are skinny high schoolers, so it would probably be more appealing to your taste.

I had a nice experience, but I don't think it is for everyone. Only one dish (my first course) was outstanding. The rest was very good and the restuarant has a lovely atmosphere. I liked the little samples they brought out between the courses. I'm just not sure I would choose Bacchanalia over other restuarants that I like in Atlanta and it has nothing to do with the price. The end result was a good nice meal, when you were hoping for something that would be great.

Our experience was overly disappointing in more than one way. Our evening started with an overly snooty hostess who may have spent just a bit too much time sampling the sweets from the attached bakery. She certainly did not appear to have the money to have achieved that size from eating in the restaurant itself. Speaking of the restaurant, it is nice but does certainly not stand out as superior to many other in the city which are often much more reasonably priced. Service was slow and un-knowledgeable throughout the evening. I was certainly amazed by the fact some other customers there seemed to have been repeat diners - I guess thinking that wearing a jacket to dinner and paying a high price makes it a good meal. I will definitely not be a repeat customer. There are too many other options offering better food, more attentive service, and a more welcoming greeting at the front door.

I was in town for business and couldn't resist a 29 Zagat rating. I did the 4 course tasting menu ($68) and the entire experience was splendid! Between the impeccible service, fantastic attitude of everyone working there, the energy of other customers enjoying their meals, comfortable yet sophisticated ambiance and flawlessly prepared food, it felt like a bargain...I live in LA and may be over- accustomed to pricey meals, but this was worth every penny and then some! I HIGHLY recommend the blue crab fritter and the warm chocolate cake. There are included extras (like the pre-dessert orange smoothie) that were great surprises too! The menu changes daily so I am sure there are always new things to try (I am told there is about a 90% menu turnover from month to month)If I have to pick on anything, the third course (cheese) was just okay, the bathrooms were ordinary, and having to walk through a gourmet kitchen store to get to the restaurant was odd. None of that really detracted from what was one of my top 10 meals in the recent years...I cannot wait to come back to Atlanta to visit what really is a food bacchanal.

I have dined ALL OVER THE WORLRD. Tokyo, Greece, London, Italy, NY, France, LA. In 30+ years of this, I have learned what fine dining is really all about. Bacchanalia is an excellent example of what is "Right" about dining! The food is prepared with LOVE, FOCUS and PURPOSE! The environment was simple but an appropriate pallet for the food that followed. The cocktails were perfect. I had a Gray Goose Martini. I will not cover every detail of my evening but the highlights were: FOIS GRAS TORCHON with Vanilla Poached Rhubarb (SIMPLY WONDERFUL), Roasted Margot Duck with Wilted Pea Sprouts, Toasted Pignoliu Nuts and Currant Puree (Impeccable) This was a wonderful dinner and not the first I have enjoyed here. Come and enjoy what good food is all about. Please dont let the Simpletons with their feeble attempts at "high brow commentary" dissuade you. Bacchanalia is a must.

Pros: Fooc, Cheese, Wine

Cons: Location

.

I was there for lunch in Feb. '05 and both myself and a very sucessful chef thought it to be the highlight of a 4 day dining tour de force. Location sets the tone as sublime & clean dishes reflect the strength and restraint of the minimalist structure that confidently asserts it's riverside stature and historical posture. Service was flawless once he realized we were all about the half bottle list. Quite refreshing to see that lunch service dosen't suffer here as it tragically tends to do at some highly rated venues. Whoever refered to this location as a "stripmall" was probably born behind one. We also ate at Joel. Bacchanalia buried it.

After seeing the reader reviews of Bacchanalia I was having second thoughts about eating there and almost cancelled my reservations. I was taking friends to eat there for a birthday celebration.
The service could not have been better, more attentive, or timely. The server was funny and explained the four course process to our satisfaction. The food was some of the best I'd ever tasted and the whole experience was excellent. I've eaten at the nicest restaurants in New Orleans, Las Vegas, Miami and the Bahamas and Bacchanalia was on par with those. I would highly recommend this restaurant to friends and family.

My husband and I have celebrated our anniversary at Bacchanalia every year. But after our most recent visit, we decided to end the tradition. My husband had to ask the server to turn toward him when he was speaking, rather than mumbling and not even having the courtesy to make eye contact. The cheese course used to be great fun, with servers who told stories about the different selections. Last time around, the server practically threw the plates at us. What a disappointment. We'll be taking our celebration elsewhere.

Pros: atmoshere

Cons: rude staff, tired menu

Recently revisited for lunch and although the food was very good the service left a lot to be desired. My water glass sat empty for most of the time I was there and the waiter only came to the table to serve or remove dishes. Expected better and will not bring clients back there as long as I have better alternatives for the same price range in Atlanta.

Bacchanalia is a fine restaurant. The food is farm fresh and well prepared. I think Bacchanalias flaw is its reputation as one of the best restaurants in Atlanta.

Seegers and the Dining Room at Ritz are far superior restaurants for the money. As far as food goes, Canoe and Woodfire Grill serve food just as fresh and well prepared for less money in more relaxed atmosphere.

The food was very good. Mussels were plump in a very good sauce. Duck confit was solidly prepared and the salmon with fresh corn was a good match. I would go back, but there are other places Id go to first.

Having lived in Philadelphia, New York City, LA, and Miami, and traveled around the world, I was curious as to what Atlanta considered its best dining. In a word: overrated. My husband and I immediately decided that it was typical Atlanta... meaning that people raved about it only because other people did. Those of us who have experienced truly great restaurants... inventive food, overall fun and enjoyable experiences with the decor and staff... were very disappointed. After dining there, I did some research and concluded that their chefs may have been popular for a reason once, but their cuisine hasn't evolved in the least like the truly brilliant chefs of other cities. Bacchanalia is the type of place that overcharges to convince those that don't know better that this is great food. We knew better.

Pros: good parking

Cons: , staff, not inventive

Bacchanalia is a step above most of Atlanta's top. Not only is the chef constantly changing the menu to create innovative and fresh meals, but between each course you are given "gifts from the chef," tastings the kitchen is developing. No it's not a value meal, so if you're out for supersized portions or cheap prices go somewhere else.

The most overrated restaurant in town! Service is slow, the food is bland, and the atmosphere boring! I was surprised at how expensive the meal was ($ 300+ for two of us, wine included), being that I did not feel there was much use of outstanding products or creativity of the chef. What a bummer after hearing all those great things........

Great restaurant. Everyone should try it, once. However, with so many Atlanta restuarants it is not quite worth returning to. We waited over 30 minutes past our reservation time, but the service was impeccable. The small treats in between meals were incredible. My only real complaint is that there were not enough entree choices. My first course (crab fritter) and dessert (cheescake)were incredible, but my main course (fennel/artichoke bass) and cheese course (arugula and pecorino) were not that great. Overall the experience was positive.

Having dined at most Atlanta restaurants, I believe that Bacchanalia takes the cake. For all of the "foodies" out there, I highly recommend that you try it. The menu is so creative serving only the best, most exotic ingredients. The service, which is very important to me, is sharp and attentive but undisturbing. The chefs store "Star Provisions" in the front of the restaurant has a great cheese selection...as well as many other home and kitchen items. I have been a fan of Bacchanalia since they were located on Piedmont and will continue to be as long as I am in Atlanta

FYI, you can also sit at the bar and watch them cook. Sometimes, depending on how busy they are, they will let you order a la carte and avoid the prix fix.

Great food, but rather pricy. Did not like the look inside, kind of like a 70's elementary school room.

Ok, this place gets a lot of national rating and dramatic reviews. But the facts are otherwise: it's way average. I have eaten there three times, one in the old location (which at least had character) and twice in the new one (which is outdone by like 100 restaurants in Atlanta). Service, like teh food is mediocre. The shop in front is cool, however. This place is FAR from the best of Atlanta. Steaks are average; seafood portions are small; flavors are not spectacular. And I mean, the location: can't a supposedly upsale restaurant afford and upscale space. I mean, it shares the "strip mall" with a taco joint!

Bacchanalia is not a midtown restaurant. Sure it's good, arguably one of the better special occasion restaurants in town. But it's not a "true" midtown restaurant. Nor does it reflect the personality of midtown. Bacchanalia is stuffy and and severe. The staff is not especially warm. There's no sense of the energy of the city you would expect to find in a midtown restaurant. It's a great spot, but arguably it belongs back in buckhead where it's snootiness and stuffiness blended right in.

Read and heard all the hype surrounding this restaurant and it lived up to it in every way. It's definitely a special occasion place unless you're used to spending $180 for 2 to eat plus a glass of wine each. Recommend the crab fritter appetizer, the beef tenderloin, the dates and peaches for the salad course and the chocolate cake with 2 ice creams for dessert. Service was very professional with a thorough knowledge of the menu. The restaurant is a bit cramped so be prepared to be close to other diners but it's definitely one of the best restaurants ATL has to offer.

i dont generally dine at establishments as upscale as this one, so i didnt have much of an idea as to what to order...SUE was very helpful in discreetly explaining all of the nuances of each entree to me without my date knowing that i had no idea what was going on...she took back a salad without question that we ordered but didnt like...my date was very impressed with how "cosmopolitan" i am, all thanks to SUE...food was great, presentation great, but VERY EXPENSIVE...

Went to Bacchanalia for lunch. Can't afford dinner but lunch is fairly reasonably priced, considering it's the best food you'll ever taste. Service was excellent and non-obtrusive, the food delightful. Overall, a great experience.

Bacchanalia's retro industrial interior is the handiwork of Dominique Coyne, who kept much of the original detail but softened spaces by using, for instance, gentle white draping to craft a semi-private space for small parties. The cooking…
