All I needed done to my car was to have an alternator belt changed. I was told it would take an hour. After the hour was up and I checked in on the car I was informed that the person who was supposed to be working on my car went on break without telling anyone and that the job hadn't been started. After 4 hours more and many assurances that my car would be ready any minute, I was told that the computer had told them the wrong belt. 3 hours more and the car was still not ready. It took them a day and a half to put on an alternator belt. They offered me a free oil change but I didn't want to have my car in their shop for a week so they could have the time to do it.

Called in on the parts line and the female who answered the phone was not very helpful. I would ask a question about a part and I could tell that she #1 Didn't understand what I and needed #2 Wanted to get off of the phone quickly. I called again today for another issue and the same person answered and I decided to not bother her and called another location.

I am in the process of buying a car for my daughter and was looking at a Mazda Tribute. I called the Pep Boys to set up a time to check out the car . They said bring it by anytime but I might have to wait an hour and a half, which I thought sounded reasonable . Well after waiting for over 4 HOURS I left without them even checking the air in the tires ! I read the reviews and saw a couple of people complain about long waits I just thought I would not be one of them.
I should have known something was wrong with the place when as the manager was signing me in the assistant manager hands the phone to him saying he had a very angry customer who wanted a discount. I stayed anyway. I parked my car in front of the bays and in the 4 hours I was there I saw only one car come out of the bays but I saw numerous " smoke breaks" and chats with girl friends. At the 2 hour mark I walked back into the desk and was told I " was next , just as soon as the technician changed 2 spark plugs".The manager came out to my car a couple of other occassions and to again tell me I was next in line. After 4 hours I had had enough of this and walked into a Pep Boys for the last time ever to tell the manager "thanks for the service and good luck with any future customers "
I drove off looking forward to the hour ride back home... but at least Pep Boys didn't get my $ 85.

You might be surprised to learn that getting two new front tires put on can take 4 hours. What was more surprising it that there were only two people in front of me when sat down to wait. You have to ask yourself: what's more important - time or money? Or, at least, get a friend to pick you up!

Pep Boys performs quality work and has a qualified staff, but the service is sometimes too expensive, and the turnaround time for work can be a little lenghthy.
